On this day, December 7, in 1941, a Japanese military attack at the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii killed 2,403 Americans. That's less than the record number who died in a day last week when more than 2,800 COVID-19deaths were reported on December 3, the country's highest daily death toll since the outbreak began
A lot of the older concrete buildings still standing on Pearl Harbor (and neighboring Hickam) outside walls went unrepaired, merely painted over in the years after the attack. Especially spots that aren't visible from any roads or main walking paths. In a few places you can still walk right up today and stick your finger in the bullet holes in the cement where they were strafed. Obviously this isn't advertised or anything, you just gotta poke around.
My pop instilled a love of history in me at a young age. Without anyone's influence in the third grade I began a fascination with the Pacific Theater of WWII. At that time it was a fascination of the way the US projected their air power. (Love the Corsair> P51 Mustang in my opinion)It wasn't until my late teens that I started to read about the European Theater of Operations. And then it was only the western front. Now I'm digging into the eastern front. Slowly stories from the other side of the front became available. Seems there was a tv show where they showed video of WWII battles filmed by both sides and narrated by soldiers from both armies involved in the battle?
A constant throughout history there are accounts of people mistreating people. I have a bit of wildlife near me and it seems the critters here battle each other a bunch too. Even the same species get into it. I had two flickers battle last week. They would yell at each other then lock claws high in the tree and battle as the fell to the ground. This repeated for a half an hour.
weird I'm watching the 49r's while typing this.Only have a digital antenna so I get what they give me.
I guess my point as the world has evolved as a eat or be eaten mantra as the driving force for eons, That's not going to be bred out of us in 10,000 years
Either way my wish is that humans would put less effort trying to kill each other.
>>>>Those Japanese flyers were just doing what they were told and following orders.
Crazy ass bastards.
So weird how the Japanese went from hardcore Samurai sword swinging, Chinese pillaging, Banzai charging, fight to the last man Bushido warriors to the pacifist high-tech Hello Kitty geeky culture they are today. Third biggest economy in the world, gave us Godzilla, Sushi, and Subarus and the only country to have survived nuclear attack.

Those Japanese flyers were just doing what they were told and following orders.
Aggressors, not aggressors, in the military you do what you're told. No shame there.
And my father passed away fifteen years ago today, so that's my 12/07 memory.
He was 25 in '41, and he was in the Pacific war for four years.
Good work pop.
