Insight into how Bill Graham worked - show notes from 40 years ago

Forums:

Here are show notes from the man himself during the 15-night Grateful Dead run at the Warfield 40 years ago.

An interesting read if you have a few minutes and want to know how his mind worked.

He was most definitely The Boss.

Really cool, thanks.

And props to Bob at the concession stand.

Great stuff. I especially liked these bits.

I just ran across this video on Reddit. Dead at Warfield. Some sweet footage of the band on stage and lots of great shots of the audience and environment.

Good lord.

How have I not seen that video?

Thanks so much for finding & posting it.

It brought me back, and there are people I've known in that video and and one or two who I consider to be friends to this day.

Only problem is, as I was watching it something kept getting into my eye.

Don't know what that was about.

And that video needs to go along with the thread for these shows. They really were something, especially to this old 20-year-old.

This is why Viva exists right here.

Thanks.

Incredibly cool footage, double thanks!

I was wondering the same thing myself, Lance. I've seen a lot of stuff, but this seemed brand new to my eyes tonight.

RIght after I finished reading the stuff you linked, I went over to Reddit and there it was. A perfect accompaniment to BIll's notes. I think we have the universe to thank for this, and Viva too for being here to let this nice little bit of synchronicity happen.

But wait, there's more, and nearly an hour's worth. Not from the Warfield, but apparently it's the same filmmakers/production company a couple of months later at the Oakland Auditorium on NYE 1980.

That Oakland Aud video is great as well.

I have seen that one before, but again, those were the times of my youth and it's amazing to see it all again.

best thread posted in a while (((Warfield lobby)))

watch out for those sneak-easy hidden beverage containers!

Bill had a remarkable will to pay attention to the details and experience of the customer.

And yes, that Warfield footage is amazing. I loved that place during the BGP tenure.

Joyous thread - thanks!!!

"Peter; we need a mirror ball with a speed control device. I'd like this in ASAP."

lol he wanted them to wear the white go to heaven suits for the encore. As if.

Fun days those were. I remember walking into the Warfield with my impossible ticket, and Bill was behind the concession counter serving up popcorn.

Love this thread... big thanks!

Thank you Lance and fucktrump (enjoyed typing that!) for elements of a grate thread. Really cool stuff. Damn, what amazing times.
