9/28/75 Lindley Meadows

Just broke out that SBD the last 2 nights - pretty decent.  Jerry was playing LOUD with his new Travis Bean.

I was over by that tree in the far right corner of the photo - weird day-  huge crowd.

I'm continually perplexed by where exactly the stage was. I have always thought it was tucked into the far west end of the meadow, but there is a website that some guy put up that says the stage was on the eastern side, with the sun setting in the band's face. I think he's wrong, but I can't quite figure it out from the photos.

Lately I've often been walking my dog all around there and I still wonder, listening for ghosts.

Either way, it's a glorious place on this earth.

and this may be the shoe that I was sporting Santa Marta gold super tight triangle golden buds - one of my favorites top 3 along with Panama red and Michoacán   Can't guarantee my memory but pretty damn likely 

I was by the fence where the band was in a van pregaming. I caught someones attention and offered a joint or two

a favorite memory was watching the joint enter the van and then hearing seven or eight people in a row  coughing with their lungs exploding and turning inside out    It was pretty cool , and that shit was the real deal

Some of the same confusion re. Veneta. In 72 the band was facing west. In 82 the crowd eas facing west.

Correct - that show was earlier that summer-  (Starship/ Hot Tuna/ Sons)- and it was at the west end of Lindley- near the Polo Grounds tunnel. - about 200 yards west of the above show stage -- facing east. That end of the meadow is/was a natural bowl- perfect for shows.

The above the stage was in the middle of the meadow (facing east)- right next to the old stone tiki god statue that used to be there.

hippies were fantastic. the clothes and the dancing.   The bikers, all of it    I can almost feel the air and the vibe and swear  that some of those faces look familiar  positive about the asian dancer     Thank you friend

The scene and THAT BAND were fantabulous  so lucky    It was so damn cool 

fyi I used to roll only modionos   Sp? Also, not that anyone should care, but  I was at that only airplane dead together show at winterland  jack Cassidy rocked my world    I vsn still see his playing and body language. An image seared on my brain prob very near the rail too.    jack and Phil back to back...

By coincidence was anyone else at the Hot Tuna show in  downtown Palo Alto in that 76 to 78 period.

Commander Cody opened . The Commander was hot  but Tuna tore the place up for 3 hours.

Can't find a trace of it on internet.

I'm a venue junkie (venue nerd?) and am endlessly fascinated with that type of thing, especially where the Grateful Dead is concerned.

My pup and I are due for an outing, I think we'll head over there today. We've been enjoying tripping around Stow Lake & Strawberry Hill, an area I had never been to until recently, but I think a Lindley Meadow, Speedway Meadow, Polo Fields walk is in order.

In the "There's a silver lining to everything" column, because of COVID the drive from San Jose up 280 and 19th Avenue to the park is a very enjoyable breeze nowadays.

Gotta' look for the positives in these crazy times.

Yeah WALSTIB, that's the website I'd seen before, and looking at it again I realize that person was way off, he didn't even have the correct meadow "tagged"...

In that photo the tag noting the location of the stage is in Speedway Meadow (now called Hellman Hollow, meh). Lindley Meadow is the one just above the Polo Fields, and now that I've heard from folks here and looked at the photos again, and walked all around there again this afternoon, I can see now where the stage was, in the middle of Lindley, definitely facing east.

We had a really nice walk in the foggy park today. Here's my little buddy taking a rest right where the stage was 45 years ago...

Same as 45 years ago - fog wise. Nothing changes in SF.

Yes that's Speedway where they tagged it - incorrect.
