You can manipulate cases. Much harder to manipulate deaths. Florida tied for 12th worst response in the nation for deaths per million pop. They won't rest until they are number 1.
As a native son, all I can say is Florida is going to Florida.
Lots of old folks down there. Going back there in December and will see how it is. My folks are getting up there in age so even though everything will be open, we will still need to be conscious about packed spaces and minimizing potential exposure to the Covid.
Minshew Mania - you're going to love it, the perfect QB for Jacksonville, that hillbilly has taken the city by storm. They will burn the city if they ever trade the guy
>>>>>My folks are getting up there in age so even though everything will be open, we will still need to be conscious about packed spaces and minimizing potential exposure to the Covid.
Even if your folks were not getting up there in age I hope you would still mask and distance. Just because everything will be "open" doesn't diminish the danger of infection - it increases it!
No dis on your dad, but flying in a tin can with poor air replacement, stuck a few feet away from folks you don't know for hours, using the same lavatory as all these strangers. - sounds like the best way to get Covid.
Protesters arrested in Florida could face the harshest punishments in the nation if a new proposal from Gov. Ron DeSantis becomes law.
The sweeping policy changes would make felonies out of participating in protests that result in property damage or blocking roads, and anyone who organizes or donates money to protesters would risk to liability under the state’s racketeering laws.
At the same time, it would grant protections to people who drive cars into crowds of protesters, even if someone is injured or killed — an “invitation to homicide,” one veteran defense lawyer said. It also threatens to cut state funding to local governments that shrink law enforcement budgets and makes it easier to sue them over property damage related to protests.
“This is a bald-faced, full-frontal assault on the First Amendment by this administration,” said Melba Pearson, a former Miami-Dade prosecutor and current policy director at the Center for the Administration of Justice at Florida International University. “It’s completely unconstitutional. … This can’t pass and if it does pass, it’s going to be tied up in lawsuits for the foreseeable future.”
Florida could become just the second state to pass laws enhancing criminal penalties against disruptive protesters since the summer, when the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police sparked nationwide unrest and demonstrations against police brutality.

Exactly. As many of you know, I travel(ed?) a great deal for work and have been on about 200 different trips since October 2014. IF everyone on the plane was socially distanced and wore their masks correctly the entire time, I'd feel better about getting back on a plane but I have little to no faith in my fellow travelers to abide by rules.

My dad and stepmother are also up there in age and will be traveling back to Florida from Chicago next month. They stay really isolated to begin with, so I can imagine they'll be even more so with the reckless policies of the state. I asked whether their county (Palm Beach County) is more restrictive, but he's not sure. As to traveling there, he wouldn't get on a commercial flight, but would be willing to drive, but my stepmother is not into that ... so they're part of a group of at least a dozen people who are chartering a private jet. Apparently, this is now a big "thing".
Meh. Wear your mask. Bring a bottle of hand sanitizer and use it after you touch common surfaces. I'm on my second flying trip during the pandemic now, and have no fear of flying. With shorter lines at TSA, no one sitting next to you on board, and less interruptions from the flight crew for food and beverage service, it is much more pleasant to fly now than it was before. Fares are also ridiculously cheap. I just got a $183 direct flight round trip from Seattle to Dulles Airport in D.C. It wasn't that cheap in the mid-80s.
