Anyone here ever heard of him? Probably the best singer/songwriter you never heard of.
In the 80's my South African friend turned me on to his music. He had a cassette of the album "Cold Fact" that we played until it wore out.
His stranger than fiction real life story is told in the award winning documentary "Searching For Sugar Man". I highly recommend watching it if you are not familiar with his story.

The movie is good, but the two times I've seen him live it was a little underwhelming. What makes the movie so fascinating is that he is revered like a Rock Star by the South Africans, who know all the words to his songs and sing along. Seeeing him here in the aftermath of the movie was different. It seemed like a lot of folks were there clueless about his material, but wanting to be there to validate their hipster status. Kind of like Dylan's Mr, Jones with his something's happening and you don't know what it is. Rodriguez seemed to pick up on the contrived nature of the audience, and his performance was nowhere near as gripping as what he gave the South Africans in the movie.
