113 today in Novato

Forums:

so when I moved out west I was sold a pile of horsehit that I would never want or need central air conditioning again.... my 1st summer we saw some temps hover around 100 degrees and same last summer.  this heat this year tho is beyond the pale and fear also is the new normal for my new home town

could be worse, conshy gets tornados now on the regular I hear

Bob Minkin posted 115 in Novato. It's 110 in western Fairfax, all of that is too crazy hot. Oh yeah, my sister in Fairfax doesn't have AC either. Is this supposed to be the hottest day?

I hope you have a pool.

It came up just shy of 110 at my place today. The real drag is it hasn't been cooling off much at night the last few days. It was still 80 at midnight last night, and didn't get below 70 overnight. Things are supposed to shift on Tuesday, they tell me. I sure hope so.

we have an above the ground thing that does the trick for an 8yr old and friends and is just meh for adults

bad air too from the fire up around point reyes makes opening windows touch and go once it does cool off

next up has to be locusts and a trump reelection of course...

stay cool out there zone!

A few days every ten years ain't bad.

It's 95 and raining ash in Boulder County.

That's crazy OG. When I lived there for a year in '94 it got to 109 one day. Too much.

Stinson was of course a total shit show today.

Hope it cools off for everyone soon. Be careful out there!

110 on my patio when I got up at 4.  77 inside.

triple digits until Wed'ish with the poss of real bad (smokey air) is what my boy Darren Peck is sayin on kpix 5

no es bueno

102 in Larkspur.  Crazy.

77˚ in Eugene today, but it looks like it'll be creeping up to 100˚ on Wednesday. Stay hydrated, everyone.

I take it back, noaa says it's 90˚ now.

Smokey in places too!

When i moved to Nor  Cal Sonoma sold my Mower and      Edgar. Oh well Raking and blowing my Roof for ever ....

That fire near Fresno in the Sierra is just exploding in this heat.

Fucked.

Monday night we've got a major wind event (for this time of year) coming to NW Oregon...   on Monday night, could have 60mph gusts in the Portland area, and 40mph elsewhere throughout the valleys (including Eugene) and coast (wind speeds will increase with elevation, mountains will see much higher gusts)...   total fire disaster if one gets started.  High temperatures could even reach the 90's on the coast Monday.

Oh man, no good Druba. I wish you the very best of luck. Good vibes for little wind.

There's a fire in Mapleton that is mostly contained. I hope that the winds don't cause it to erupt.

There's multiple small fires in the cascades right now that don't seem to be listed on the fire maps, a friend posted pics a day or so ago of the one above Green Peter Res, for ex.

I read about one above Green Peter reservoir, but I'm sure that there are many others throughout the Cascades and probably the Coast Range.

This map leaves a lot out, but it shows the larger fires (the strong winds will be a nightmare!)

Tonights Portland NWS weather discussion;

<<.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Wednesday...Little change in the overall forecast for the next 48-72 hours. High fire danger will impact much of northwest Oregon and southwest Washington beginning Monday afternoon and continue through Wednesday. The period of most extreme fire weather conditions will likely begin Monday evening and persist through Tuesday morning across the Coast Range, portions of the Portland/Vancouver metro and the Cascades. After that point, winds should begin to relax and while fire danger will be high, it will not be as dire. The main update this evening was to upgrade the wind advisory for the Portland/Vancouver metro to a high wind warning. The NAM, GFS and UW WRF soundings support a well mixed atmosphere persisting into the evening hours with wind speeds at the top of the boundary layer pushing 50kt or more. This certainly suggests stronger wind gusts of 50 kt could mix down in the form of sporadic, but big powerful gusts near the West Hills and across portions of the eastern Portland/Vancouver metro Monday evening/night. In addition, most models keep the lower atmosphere well mixed with just a hint at the surface trying to decouple, but struggling to do so. This appears to be in part due to the breezy to windy conditions expected. In addition, the urban heat island will act to keep the metro at the surface warmer than it would naturally, particularly since we are dealing with a much higher sun angle than many of our east wind scenarios in Nov/Dec/Jan. When coupled with 900mb temperatures steadily cooling through the night as cooler air is advected through the Columbia River Gorge, the lower atmosphere should stay mixed enough to allow some of the stronger winds aloft to surface at times. Finally, we have had a couple quiet years wind wise. In other words, many of our trees haven`t really undergone a good pruning in a while. When coupled with the fact deciduous trees are fully leafed, tree limb damage should be higher than it would be during many of our winter east wind events. Even wind events that produced widespread 45 to 55 mph wind gusts during the winter months several years ago produced a lot tree damage and ample power outages. For example, the strongest downslope wind event in the last decade, resulted in over 60K losing power across Clark County on Veterans Day 2014. So while confidence is relatively high significant chunks of the metro will experience wind gusts of 40 to 55 mph Monday evening into Tuesday morning, similar to the Veterans Day 2014 event, confidence is not as high stronger wind gusts will materialize given the rarity of such wind speeds. Nonetheless, feel the odds of 60 to 65 mph wind gusts to surface across at least pockets of the metro is high enough to warrant the warning given model soundings and theta/wind cross sections. Either way, winds should be strong enough to produce down tree limbs that will likely result in at least some power outages across the metro.>>

A mere 109 degrees today.  4 days in a row now of temps above 105 at my place.  I can honestly say I have never lived in a place where it got this hot for this many days in a row with temps predicted over 100 tomorrow as well

me no likey

111 today, over 100 tomorrow and then the 30 mph winds kick in. That is not a good combo. Stay safe.

Cooling off. 90 today, freeze tonight, snow tomorrow. Colorado whiplash weather.

Where I live 110 is the norm every summer, and it lasts for about 60+ days.  Thankfully AC and insulated homes are abundant.
