There have certainly been Covid deaths that have not been reported. On the other hand, there are deaths that have been listed as being "caused" by Covid when the person simply had the virus and died of other causes. They probably cancel each other out.
>>>>>how do you separate the virus from dying from a stroke secondary to (caused by) the virus? Very tricky business.
It is tricky. In your example, I would say that it would be caused by Covid because the stroke was caused by the virus. I am not an epidemiologist or medical examiner, but personally, I think a "but for" causation test makes the most sense. In other words, if the person would have otherwise survived but for having Covid, then it would chalked up to the Covid. On the other hand, if the person would have otherwise died regardless of whether they had the Covid or not, then it would not be counted as such.
<<On the other hand, if the person would have otherwise died regardless of whether they had the Covid or not, then it would not be counted as such.>>
But they are counted, regardless if death is causative or correlative to covid-19. So, yeah, this is medical fraud, plain and simple.
Furthermore, the testing for covid-19 is very inaccurate, which would make the official death numbers even more suspect and erroneous.
Canadian author and long-time independent researcher, David Crowe, has written a new paper, “Antibody Testing for COVID-19.” (May 13, 2020). Some excerpts:
“The only jurisdiction with a formal structure for approval of antibody tests is the United States but, until very recently, it was a complete joke, as the test manufacturers did not need to provide validation data. Now it is only a partial joke, as validation data must be provided, but the FDA can only do a paper analysis. Imagine if auto-manufacturers had to build cars to certain EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency) fuel efficiency standards, but rather than sending a car to the EPA for testing, they could do the testing at their facilities, and just send the results in afterwards…”
“Antibody tests are often subject to cross-reactions with other conditions. This could be because the [other irrelevant] medical condition produces similar antibodies, or because something related to that [other] condition reacts with other test components. The choice of [cross-reacting] conditions to check for is completely under the control of the manufacturer and even when no cross reactions were found for a condition, the number of samples tested was so small that the possibility of a fairly high rate of false positive cross reactions still exists.”
“Positive antibody tests have only been found in a minority of people in the general population even where the virus is believed to have been circulating for months. These fractions are generally taken as truth, but one would expect a highly infectious virus to have spread much more widely…The one experiment that could show whether antibody tests are actually meaningful would be a time series of a large number of people who are currently negative on all tests. This experiment would be time consuming, inefficient (as many people would never become positive on any tests), intrusive (frequent nasal swabs and blood tests) and obviously very expensive. Those are practical considerations, but in the absence of such an experiment we are almost totally in the dark about COVID-19 antibody testing. Given the billions being spent on COVID and the trillions being lost by the economy, it surely is not impossible to do some worthwhile science.
"They" "know" how many deaths would have been expected over any time period. Subtract that number from the actual number of deaths, and voila - you have a pretty good estimate of the Covfefe-19 toll.
>>>>>Subtract that number from the actual number of deaths, and voila - you have a pretty good estimate of the Covfefe-19 toll.
I have read that is what some epidemiologists intend to do. Apparently, they have used that same methodologies in calculating heat wave deaths. The issue I see with that approach, however, is that the number would also include deaths related to the lock down measures, such as those caused by increased suicides, domestic violence, and substance abuse, as well as deaths from delayed treatment of other conditions in people who were too scared of the Covid to go to the hospital.

How does one establish COV19 as being a "direct cause of death"?
IOW, from a systemic perspective, can most pathologies resulting from infection ever be considered a singular cause of death? The amoeba that eats one's brain comes to mind. I'm sure there are others, but don't many deadly infectious agents trigger some sort of domino chain reaction of the host's body vs. actually taking a proverbial external knife (brought in by the infectious agent) and "stabbing away" at a critical organ?
I believe that the CDC states that only 6% of the deaths were in those without comorbidities. That's very different than "...solely from COVID."
And, as someone in that article pointed out, 60-70% of Americans have comorbidities.
We'll never know how many of the 172,000 deaths with comorbiditty would still be alive. We do know that it's almost unheard of for nursing homes to have 18 deaths in a week or so. We know that lifespans of others were significantly shortened. We are also learning of the long-term effects on both survivors and carriers.
