The screen door slams, Mary's dress sways
Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside, darling you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking that maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty, but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me

Thunder Road ~ Bruce Springsteen

Hard to believe that it was 45 years ago today that Bruce Spriingsteen's Born To Run was released. From the first notes/words of the above opening cut, Thunder Road to the final piano and strings finish, this album made and continues to make a statement that rock and roll can be a document of all of the human experience. It is one of the few albums I can still sit down and seriously listen to from start to finish without interruptions. I know that this album has been a major part of the life of any number of people, myself included.

Saddler as an expert in these matters, where would you rank this album in the Springsteen pantheon?

I wouldn't call myself an expert at all. I've been a fan since before Springsteen released an album but I've never really gotten into the minutia that "experts" tend to repeat to anyone that cares to listen to them. I am just a long time fan that has ended up taking a lot of photos of the guy.

Anyway, to get back to your question, while I consider Born To Run an essential album for any fan of rock and roll, I put both the album directly before it, The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle and the album directly after, Darkness On The Edge of Town above Born To Run. Of course, YMMV.

Tony, there is no denying you are a front and center zoner when it comes to ,Springsteen.

Always enjoy your comments.

Isn't that the one that was held up by legal issues?  Was it Jon Appel?  Or something like that.

IMO, "The Wild The Innocent and The E Street Shuffle" is an absolute CLASSIC. Saw Bruce from the front row that first tour out west. Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix.

Listened to this after work. Not bad.

I knew this was you. (And, yeah, I agree re the ranking.) Happy anniversary to a classic.

Glad you liked the album. Was this your first listen?

While I still consider myself a Springsteen expert, I do know more than a few people who are closely associated with him. Within in the past week I have heard numerous times that the upcoming Springsteen album (not announced yet or has a potential release date) is "The best album he has ever written."  All of the people I've heard this from are not the kind that drift towards hyperbole.

Seems there is a chance I might have to shuffle the order of my favorites. That's a chore I won't mind doing.

First listen of the album start to finish.

Nice to see ya posting Tony... Miss seeing ya Brother..
