I spent the summer of 1978 as an exchange student in Iran, and I always found it amusing how people in Iran made jokes about people from nearby Azerbaijan. Here's an example: How did the Azerbaijani break his legs while raking leaves? He fell out of the tree.
^ Mikee that's almost like the Canadian Newfie jokes.
They make fun of the Newfoundland people -- it's the Canadian version of 'Polish jokes'.
Probably doesn't help that their Time clock is a half-hour different from the rest of Canada.
Maybe that's changed but really, in the past Newfoundland had a half-hour time difference.
So Mom's side of the family were Polish, and they all enjoyed trading Polish jokes at family gatherings, but really dated ones reflecting their early-1900's 'Off-the-Boat' immigrant background in the NYC area.
Actually nobody except those people would even "get" those jokes, and they're all mostly Dead.
However if there is an Afterlife where I get to meet Dead relatives, the first thing I would say would be "Why must I go to Queens Boulevard ??"
If they know the punchline, then yeah that's actually Aunt & Uncle so and so.
I regularly watch French, Italian, Spanish, German, Dutch, Scottish, British, Irish, Australian and New Zealand movies and TV series. I'm studying German and Spanish so I use those movies and shows to get more familiar. I really love Australian and New Zealand TV.
as far as tv entertainment goes, I like the Brits. Benny Hill is classic, along with Monty Python. And there's been a short new series this summer on pbs called Mum. The cast members are exceptionally well suited for their roles and it's been a pleasant surprise to have this in place of endless reruns.
as far as reality entertainment goes, this country is hard to beat. When you have a nation of people who have been blessed with copious amounts of leisure time coupled with a plethora of perception altering drugs, there's no shortage of boredom killing activities to feast your senses on. I was washing dishes the other day and looking out the kitchen window when a naked guy with his balls on fire went running down the street yelling,I HATE LAMINATE FLOORING, all the while leaving a faint trail of ball smoke in his wake. I'm not sure if he was a diy'er at his wit's end on a hot summer day or if it was meth rearing its ugly head, but THAT was entertaining.
We're watching a Norwegian show on Netflix, Norsemen. It's pretty friggin' funny and entertaining. As a bonus, it was filmed simultaneously in Norwegian and English, so what we see here isn't over-dubbed.

I like Burundi for their Colorful Postage Stamps.
Never been, but the first destination there would be Stamp Factory.
Czechoslovakia I've heard is Pretty Cool, home of the Original Pilsner Beer and Saaz Hops.

When I was young, I had heard the Polish version of that joke, Stu, and a Slovenian spin-off too.
And coincidentally, Iran has a weird half-hour time system too; they're GMT +4:30.
