That was just so much better than phish

Trey  playing some crunch

sounding like real rock - old school power music

yes, with a real bass player and 3 other black gentlemen pounding it on   should have introduced the musicians

on JImmy Fallon

They're called The Roots old man.

They really don't need an introduction.

But then they could never draw 100,000+ either.

>But then they could never draw 100,000+ either.<

Since 2007, the roots have played the July 4 show in Philly. It's held at the Philly Museum of Art and draws about 200,000 people.

Real bass player?

So Mike Gordon is no a real bassist?

How about Tony Markellis, is he a real bass player?

Phish drew ::almost:: 100,000 once.

For a special marathon once in a millennia New Year.

Pent up covid demand aside, I think they'd be hard pressed to get anywhere near that many as the 3.0 2019 band they were last fall.

These Dinner and a Movie streams have really highlighted how amazing they were in the 90s though.  Outside of Fall 2013, Summer 2015 and Bakers Dozen, the x factor has been few and far between since 2009.

OK then, 70,000+.

And I don't think all 200,000 are showing up to that 4th of July show specifically for The Roots.

Nothing against The Roots, just sayin'.

And I certainly agree that Phish isn't as good as they were 25 years ago.

But then again, who is?

Thanks for posting, made me discover Trey's quarantine album "Lonely Trip"

I don't think there's many- if any- rock bands today that can pull 100k people.  The live music landscape is (especially the jamband scene) so much more "decentralized" than it used to be... dozens and dozens and dozens of smallish festivals can be found anywhere across the country.  The 90's had Phish and that initial wave of jam bands and today you have an array of successful jam bands with smaller fanbases (Dopapod, Turkuaz, Twiddle, etc, etc)

In the right time and place the Stones could probably still get 100,000.

>> so much better than phish

The song was super lame.

Haiku Manchu, Acid Test casualty

Doesn't recognize world famous band, backing for world famous celebrity

Thinks Gordon isn't a real bassist

Doesn't realize Trey is the man

Who respects and raises other musicians

Lol

Wasn't bad, but kinda flat for my tastes ... never really "went anywhere".

Im sure it's no "Meatstick"

This proves my point exactly.

hey team, old man here (jj)

just felt like a little teasing folks as so many are so very on board with that band - phishing some buttons as it were

I kinda don't get it having seen them a few times,  but to each their own (and they are clearly talented )

I was scheduled to see the Roots not too long ago - they are quite good , and wanted to check them out- don't do too much late night tv

I did not hear Jimmy ever introduce or thank the band which struck me as odd - but he was so giddy from live music  said Trey like 10 times= with no indication of having practiced at all they grooved,- but  they are true professionals and do groove, which i do not perceive phish as doing - Trey played some very tasting stuff that was not noodling - and i dug it lyrics were meh  true..

Javs - chill the f out mr name caller/ hater / angry human / holier that thouer - fwiw as if I need to defend myself ~~I sure as hell am not an acid casualty - even if I possibly lose even more cred "here"  for not being a rabid drug disciple

I enjoyed the performance, and the approach --- carry on

Oh, I see, you can jump on my threads and give me shit, but not vice versa.

Oh, sorry.

So on my threads

you are free to give shit

However, here, it seems to bother you?

Huh.

Look, I got no issue with you. On the other thread, I never once directed a word at you, definitely not any insult or rudeness. You took my ideas personally and came at me - not at my ideas, at me. So I decided to give you a little shit on your thread, that's all.

Hope you're having a swell day!

All good.  I did react some when I  felt I was being lumped in as a centrist.   Personal views can be complicated   Politics sure are

I did take some issue with how you put people down, not with your views (I am free to disagree with many of them )

all have a good day

Picked-up an LP copy of Trey's Ghosts of the Forest recently

I enjoyed it...

I thought it was pretty weak, but you are right, still better than the Phish

Phish is like Zappa in terms of it not being passive listening.  Thankfully, it's not for everyone...

Yes and a good thing we had Zappa for those of us who don’t share in the kiddo groove

Heck. I like both Phish and Zappa(Frank & Dweezil) Listen to them all much more frequently than anything Dead related.

Zappa is a god

the kids ok too
