NJ Jorma on 9/20

Dude

live music and Jorma

that's two very rare things for under a bill, and that's probably with gas included.

Not something I want to miss, but I'm out

Reminds me a bit of the old place in Sayreville NJ which was "Dinner - Theater".  Saw the Hot Tuna there one time 198x or 1990 - something.

"Good Seats" were up close to stage but you were expected to sit and eat the Food (not especially great,  but edible).

Can't recall the name of Venue.

The Grotto at Monmouth Park seems to be as good as it will get for another year. The tickets are being sold in 2's, 4's and 6's that correspond to tables with the same number of seats. That way the only people you get much exposure to are the people in your party. You will not be at a table that is combined with others parties. On the negative side, if you want food or drinks you will have to buy it there since the tickets come with a dinner reservation. I don't see any table minimum though so it is possible you don't have to spend anything more than the ticket price and various fees and surcharges. I have asked if that it the case and will report back when I get an definitive answer to this. On negative for some is that the concerts being held here are "Meat Always In Your Seat" shows. Not standing or dancing on your feet. Butt boogie while seated is OK.

While none of these shows and any of the other options that are being tried out across the nation are ideal, they are going to be the only shows in town for a long time. If you want live music, everyone will have to compromise.

p.s. The name of the place you are writing about was Club Bene, DS.

$20 minimum on food and drink

The people who went to shows with seating like this at TXR reported having a great time, seems like something workable. I believe the TXR shows had food included in the price of the ticket, maybe one drink? Anyway, it's going to take creativity to give people live music experiences and this sounds like a start.

Zooey, you are always able to find the facts! Thanks.

Thanks, Zooey. Now I don't have to write an e-mail to the PR dude.

Workable is good. I am hoping that things like this become a bit more plentiful before the weather turns here in the east. It's going to be a long winter.

Twenty bucks at the Race Track (it's a Horse venue) will get you a Grilled Cheese and one Beer,  not much more.

Thinking back to "Club Bene"  I'm guessing the Ticket was 12-15 bucks and Dinner about the same.

Food was unmemorable,  somewhere along the lines of County politics fund-raising Dinner with industrial Meat, Potato, and Salad with Jello dessert.

Speaking of Jorma and "good seats," I saw him once at the Top Hat in Missoula in the mid-90s, and there was a table parked at the foot of the stage that was reserved for Jorma's "guests."   It turned out the guests were all strippers from a place down the street.

Dancing will not be permitted.

Cause, you know what that leads to...

Shakes The Clown will be selling Nitrous Balloon Animals in the parking lot.

Here is the dining menu for anyone thinking about attending a concert at The Grotto. No grilled cheese sandwiches.

^ Thanks for that;  was just thinking of looking at said menu.  Not because I'm attending,  but thinking of Food.

So $20 will get you a Antipasto version of Grilled Octopus w/ Chickpea Puttanesca.  No grilled Cheese but they would probably make you one if you ordered in Italian.

By the way,  "Puttanesca" is loosely translated as "Whore Sauce".  A quick and flavorful sauce to throw on the Pasta.

me and the mrs are down for this.  as the show at the cap for this week was postponed for one year.  gotta get in at least one jorma/tuna show for this year.  wouldn't seem right not to lol   club bene was a great venue.  small, good sound. we saw jorma there for our 10th year wedding anniversary, 23 years ago.  jorma played 5 hours lol great show. club bene now just an open lot, the parking lot across the street has condos built on it.  good memories, lots of people played there, mountain, leslie west solo, to name a few.
