So three were living there, but down to Two individuals now. Haven't seen Frog #3 in a couple weeks :(
Many tadpoles, however I'm still waiting for them to grow some legs.
Saw a good sized Toad today but s/he is a dry-land critter, perhaps exchanging pleasantries with its Aqueous cousins ?

From the bilious bubbles of a black lagoon
They make a hound dog howl a swat team swoon
Hot frogs on the loose

Slurping nuclear debris
Amphibious fabulous fancy free

Radioactive lookin' for fun
If you kiss 'em look out for the tongue
Hot frogs on the loose
They got little skinny legs and big bug eyes
Fraternizing's not advised
They like you like they like flies
Hot frogs on the loose
They got a chicken nugget body and a whopper leap
In your bedroom while you sleep
They'll make your Geiger counter beep

Well, it's been a while so I thought I would update.
Never saw any Tadpoles growing sets of legs or other metamorphosis. I guess they do that deep underwater, sheltered from predators beneath the Muck.
But over the last couple weeks, I've seen more and more Juvenile Frogs there in Sanctuary, and deduced / assumed they were born right there. They started out the size of a quarter or half-dollar and keep getting larger, so I guess their food supply is good.
Today I counted 13 young Frogs. Go Frogs Go !!

I'm currently running a campaign against a ground nest of yellow jackets. I sneak up on them when they're sleeping and place a bug zapper over the nest entrance. As soon as one flies into it and the zapper begins to activate, they send the signal to attack getting their pheromones all over the bug zapper and identifying it as a threat . They continue to attack the bug zapper until they are either all dead or they Move on. MoveOn.organism

That sounds like a good technique, but I suppose you need 120 volt AC power to run that Zapper.

Anyway, reading up on Ground Hornets / Yellow Jackets a couple years ago, I gather that they won't make their ground nest in the same spot each year.
So it's OK to run the mower in that place the next year {{{ CAREFUL !! }}}
And although they all look the same, there are the ones that come out for your Soda and Chicken at the picnic, and then the ones that nest in the ground, and also those which build paper - mache hives on low-hanging branches.
The latter two groups are the ones which have viciously attacked me in the past (like even yesterday).
They chase you and can keep stinging, even through clothing. You can jump in a Pool, but they will keep stinging underwater.

Well, Frog Sanctuary started out, and still remains, a "Kiddie Pool" which I was using to mix potting soil for Tomatoes, Peppers and Bulbs for Flowers.
After the Spring planting season, there was not much potting soil, and the rains came, then Leaves fell.
Soon, Frogs moved in, and I did not want to bother them. They seemed Happy there.
So they have Free rent, and I don't mess with them except to add Fresh Water every day.
I go out and say "Hello Frogs" in the morning, and drink Coffee. Sometimes I give them names, like Freddy, Frieda, Francesca, Frito and such.
They have other Bodies of water to move along nearby, if they so desire.
Frog Sanctuary is a safe place for them to Breed and chill out, with no structure or rules.
Hüsky has been trained to leave The Frogs in peace, and not to mess with Them.
"It's their Back Yard too" is what I explained to H.I.M.

Yes it seems I get stung
Yes it seems I get stung about once per year, and this particular one was just a single Ground Hornet that stung through a sock. I wasn't running a machine, just chopping up some invasive weeds with a Machéte.
That was Wednesday, and the ankle was still a bit swollen and painful by Friday. Squishing some herbal salve on the entry wound, I pulled out a little Stinger end that had stuck in there. Yes I took a shower every day, but the Soap & water didn't remove the Stinger. These little guys are serious.
Glad it was only one. I smacked it with the flat side of the garden tool and it was squished. Last few times it was several, but they did not sting as deeply. Hopefully, the Murder Hornets don't move in to Jerseyland real soon.

Well I'm seeing 6-7 individuals lurking around Frog Sanctuary (murking?) lately. Possibly some of them hopped along to other bodies of water, or got eaten by predators.
A couple of the fastest - growing Frogs seem to be showing Special Feelings for one another. Perhaps they will mate and hatch the late-Summer / early-Autumn spawn of Tadpoles.
I'm happy to have a Safe Place for them to frolic about, eat Bugs and chill. They are extremely low-maintenance pets which require no actual care or feeding, but contribute to the Ecosystem.

Did Stu's frogs become frog stew?
1.Rinse frogs under cold running water. Set aside.
2..In medium-sized soup pot or saute pan, bring dashi to steady simmer. Place washed frogs in pot and simmer for 10 minutes.
3. Add miso paste to pot and incorporate into broth by pressing miso paste against edge of soup pot. Simmer for 5 minutes longer, until frog flesh is cooked through but still very tender. Add wakame to pot and let soften in broth.
4. Serve immediately. Garnish with green onions.

Not to bring politics to this
Not to bring politics to this thread, but I do think that you all will appreciate the platform of the Boiling Frog Party:
Boiling Frog Party founder Gary Swing is just a small frog from a large pond. He thinks outside the bog as he leapfrogs into the dismal swamp of electoral politics.
WTF?!? — Why the Frogs?
Quoting Dr. Kerry Kriger, the Founder & Executive Director of SAVE THE FROGS!:
‘When we save the frogs, we’re protecting all our wildlife, all our ecosystems and all humans.’
Dr. Kriger explains the critical ecological role played by frogs and the threats they face here:
www.savethefrogs.com/why-frogs/
We are in the midst of the Sixth Mass Extinction of animal species, resulting from human impact on the ecosystem.
Seventy percent of the global wildlife population of vertebrate species has died off since the first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970.
Vertebrate species are animals that have backbones. This includes mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish. Invertebrate species are spineless creatures like jellyfish, sponges, tape worms, leeches, sea urchins, insects, and members of Congress.
The Earth’s human population has more than doubled since 1970, from 3.7 billion to 7.8 billion people. Per capita ecological footprints have dramatically overshot the sustainable limits of growth. The Living Planet Report ecological overshoot study estimates that the Earth could not sustain a population of more than 1.5 billion people if the average person on Earth had as much environmental impact as the average person in the United States does today.
About one third of frog species worldwide are now threatened with extinction as their habitats are destroyed. As ecological indicator species, frogs are especially sensitive to changes in both aquatic and terrestrial environments.
The Boiling Frog Party seeks to unite amphibious citizens of the world who prefer to have the thermostat turned down slightly on the global hot tub we all share, before we all croak.
The Boiling Frog Party is concerned about global warming, stove top warming, amphibian rights, preservation of endangered species, water pollution, conservation of wetlands and other natural habitats, human overpopulation, and the disturbing habit of Peruvian street vendors sticking live frogs in blenders.
We demand a global ban on restaurants serving frog legs. It’s time to end this holocaust of amphibian amputation!
The United States is a nation of sheep, ruled by wolves for the benefit of pigs. Congress is a den of vipers. All we are saying is… give frogs a chance!
