Jerry Day in LA

Forums:

Attention LA area Zoners, do you know of any relatively safe things to do with social distancing next week? Small outdoor music events, hiking, beaches or outdoor wineries in the area that are open?  I know Garcetti said things might have to shut back down due to a recent surge but since I'll be there all next week, including Jerry Day, thought I would ask.  And local Zoners always know what's up :-)

Some of the skater kids might be jamming some GD at the hot skate spots.

That link had some crazy acrobatics. I can't understand how they pull some of that off in SF traffic. Fearless kids.

The next related vid that popped up had more amazing nutty stuff, including guys lying in a pool of blood after sliding off some rail.

I'm kinda glad I missed the skateboard thing. We had em  if ya made one yourself, but I remember going straight from bikes to driver's ed.

I made every skateboard I had also.

Thanks Turtle and Mikee.  I'll keep my eye out for adventure.

A friend of mine walked the shore from Santa Monica to Venice yesterday, and she said there were a few shops open, but not many people around.

I've walked that stretch before, it's usually packed. Strange times indeed.

Of course there's something to be said for having the place to yourself.

Westied that for you.

How's the July weather been down there?

It might hit 70° in Lafayette on Friday.

Thanks, Lance. My east coast roots are showing.

Slacker, it's been warm up by me in the hills, but not too crazy for a few weeks. Highs about 90, and getting down well into the 50s overnight. I can't speak to the conditions at the coast though.

Arrived in LA, it was an uneventful couple of flights (except for a girl playing with her cat in the seat behind me on the flight from Chicago) . There is a Steve Martin joke there somewhere. Everyone at airports and in the plane wore masks. It was easy to maintain 2 meter distance from people at the airport, going through customs and at the gate. Planes board by row back to front and exit front to back, to reduce contact.
Going on a hike around Malibu today.

I used to live on Windward in Venice.  At times I think of that walk or bike ride fro Santa Monica to Marina Del Rey.

When I moved to L.A. I looked at an ocean-side apartment on the top floor of that brick building with the red sign on it that is in the lower of the two photos Mike posted.  It was $1100/month and fairly small, but right on the beach with an ocean view.  I decided not to rent it after simulating the commute to where I'd be working in Southeast L.A.

We hiked in Topanga Canyon on Sunday and then went to the beach.  It was foggy in the morning but nice sunshine later in the day.  Yesterday was a hike through Runyon Canyon up to Mulholland.

Hey China! Great photos, nice that you're having fun in LaLaLand.

I really like Malibu; I'm glad you got some sun later in the afternoon. We have been on

that weather pattern here for a couple of weeks now.

Have an awesome visit!

Earthquake in LA this morn.

All good, everyone?

Looks like there was a 4.2 in the SFV just before dawn out here. That's a good little shaker, but there shouldn't be any damage.

Slept right through it!

I had an amazing mushroom pizza with white truffle oil at The Butcher's Daughter in Venice.

Hiked around Griffith Park and the observatory.  There are impressive views of the city from those trails.

Back home now, had a great visit!  Even though museums and indoor activities were not an option there was plenty of hiking and beach days.  We also got some great takeout food.

Starting a 14 day quarantine since CA got itself on the NY naughty list.

That's illegal.  As a US citizen and per the constitution, you can freely pass state lines.  I'd tell Cuomo to go fuck himself.

Glad you had a good time.
