I was at these shows and agree that other shows throughout 84 would be better choices . I did like the venue a lot.
I liked Ventura a lot especially the second show ( I believe it was an early start) >>
Eggman, Wasn't this the run of shows where your bartender friend in Philadelphia near U.Penn kept on buying us round after round of drinks? Roz and I laughed about that for years. H2
Probably the 10th or more shows that I attended to be a release. A great alternative to the Spectrum although there so many great shows. Funny I totally remember being surprised by the second Wharf Rat.
If GDM were going to release any shows from 1984, there are several that are more noteworthy and definitely better than the Philadelphia CC run. The best pair of the year were played in October in Augusta, ME. Those two are definitely worth having. The other three show run worth having are the Greek shows from July 1984. Jerry didn't look too good with an unkempt appearance onstage and one can only wonder what he looked like when he was not performing.
I'd like to see those Augusta, Maine shows released.
Merriweather Post Pavilion, 1984 were also very good:
6-26-84
Casey Jones, Feel Like A Stranger, Althea, Cassidy, Tennessee Jed, Looks Like Rain-> Might As Well
China Cat Sunflower-> I Know You Rider, Women Are Smarter-> He's Gone-> Drums-> Don't Need Love-> Truckin'-> Wang Dang Doodle-> Stella Blue-> Around & Around-> Good Lovin',
E: Day Job
6-27-84
Jack Straw
Friend Of The Devil
Little Red Rooster
Cumberland Blues
My Brother Esau
Loser
Let It Grow
Set 2
Help On The Way ->
Slipknot! ->
Franklin's Tower ->
Estimated Prophet ->
Eyes Of The World ->
Why Don't We Do It In The Road ->

Creator of The Eggman AKA H2 that was Ventura 85 you are thinking of. I do remember being in Billy's van for the run and we all stayed in the same Hotel as well I recall. These shows were funded by my dad as part of my college graduation gift.
No seaside chat cause of that silly thing that was gonna go away when the weather got warmer.
Except it didn't . Here's the next best thing. A quarantine chat.
I signed up for five subscriptions when they launched. I quit subscribing in 2016. 75% of Dave's "picks" are predictably redundant in year or era, or just uninspiring/mediocre shows overall (band playing quality and/or setlist), or both.
sold off all of my sets for a grip though, so I'm not complaining about the frenzy, just the actual content.
there are plenty of great shows (both the playing and the sound quality) in the 34 before this one. this aint one of those but they all cant be home runs. I just wish Dave did not try and placate the release the 80s crowd at all when there is so much more good material to get to from 1968 thru 1979
Nope not quite 3, just checked. $2500 for dp #1-16, all sealed with the bonus discs and also the second printing of dp #3 (five hundred pressed) Times four. A few years ago now. Bought a truck. Sold the opened ones for a few hundred less. Bought tires and brakes. I'm not sure what they go for now, but damn if deadheads won't throw ridiculous money at the most trivial shit. That was a 5x return in four years. Basically free truck. Forgive the slang. All love man. Wish I'd bought a hundred subscriptions.
>> I'm not sure what they go for now, but damn if deadheads won't throw ridiculous money at the most trivial shit. <<
Hartford '83 was one of the early Dick's Picks releases, and in the linear notes they had an image of an original ticket stub. I think it was $12 and the CD (in the mid-90s) was like $25. Good for them, I say. That said, don't own a CD player do won't be buying this one, but will download off the Spotifys.

Is that for real? I have all of em and like 30 are still unopened and sealed .
Bump for receipt of the goods. I got mine yesterday and haven't listened to it straight through yet, but I've got a few beefs. First, the sound quality sounds a bit muddy to me. Also, the filler from the night before is at the end of disc two and three and it's out of order. Maybe I'm just another picky deadhead, but I'd rather have the main event play straight through and then add the filler in the order it was played. That said, it's always fun getting an official release of a show I was at.
I'm curious what others have to say about this release.

It does seem like an odd choice. I was at this shoe, but don't remember anything that stood out.
First set closer Let It Grow was strong. Perhaps I missed something.
There are many other 1984 shows that if memory serves me well, had more to offer.
Like Berkeley Community Theater, Berkeley, CA (11/3/84 also 11/2/94)
Greek Theater (U of California), Berkeley, CA (7/15/84)

4/21 is liked the best of the 3 by a lot of people, some hear a St Stephen tease during space, but a tough call with the 2nd Wharf Rat of the 3 shows
I did like the venue a lot>>>
Paved paradise & put up a parking lot, some classic 76ers/Celtics playoff games in the 60's.

grip: As much as one can hold in a hand; a handful. I need to get a grip of nails for my project. (figuratively) A tenacious grasp; a holding fast.
A little north of three stacks per set if I remember correctly.
