From what I saw the crowd was about 98% not wearing masks.

     I have an interesting Mt. Rushmore story, traveling on the "Terrapin Transportation" school bus with Steve Messimio, famous for the "keep the scene clean" bumper stickers, amongst other accomplishments...not the least of which being the road crew for Solar Circus...a true pillar of the movement, he had a Harley Davidson in the back of the bus that he rode from time to time in front of the bus while someone else drove.

     A lot of people argue that Summer Tour 1989 was the "last great tour", the last great vestige of freedom in America...in that there was a moratorium on camping/vending afterwards, it was also arguably the greatest summer of my life heretofore, I'm convinced to this day Steve wanted that tour to be special, which is why he made a point of visiting Mt. Rushmore while going from Alpine Valley to Sacramento...it was a true moment in time.

“Our nation is witnessing a merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values and indoctrinate our children... Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our founders, deface our most sacred memorials and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities.”  No worries.  Our leader promised to protect the Second Amendment, law enforcement and the country’s heritage.  He praised Thomas Edison, Muhammad Ali, Louis Armstrong, ML King, Andrew Jackson, the four chaps on the mountain top, etc.  Putting an American flag on Mars was presented as a mission statement.  Plus some stuff about cancel cultures poised to unleash a wave of violent crime because they think that the American people are weak and soft and submissive.  

For all the bluster, the speech seemed kind of meh. YMMV.

Sigh. I knew it was too good to be true. 

I enjoyed my day - trip to Mt. Rushmore.  There's actually a (?) State Park adjacent which is free to enter,  and you can see the whole spectacle from there.  There are many fascinating Rockhound specimens in the area.  Where we were,  the Rock structure was not solid Granite but rather,  had a lot of Mica in the structure -- you could scrape flakes off it with a pocket knife.  Probably explains why the original sculptors had some issues with faces falling off as they were working.

After that we went over to Crazy Horse Monument,  which is actually much much larger.  The nice Gatekeeper let us in for free,  as it was late in the day.  They're still working on that one,  but they have a pretty Kool setup there,  with various buildings full of Educational stuff.

Yes,  gorgeous part of the world.  I was driving a huge rental truck x - country and some Pals lived in Rapid City SD.  So I stayed a couple days,  and we took in the popular Tourist sites,  but with the Local perspective.

I parked that 40- footer and she drove her Jeep :)

So a divisive culture war speech has completely transformed this election into a landslide victory for the Don.  

That was the Don's hope.  He has once again connected with his VivaLaZone base. 

As for the other 60 to 70 percent of the voting public, well sure... there's four months to go.

He can indeed! No one has been able to give me an opponent free explanation of why this current administration is deserving of a second term. I’d love to see a list of the accomplishments achieved and how they have brought the country together in the last 4 years that warrant such an honor but none of his supporters seem to be able to do so without what-a-bouts 

Political beliefs aside, the fact that some people carved out those guys faces in the little plateau or mountain is pretty awesome. I appreciate the craft and hard work. I think it might be more beneficial if we told the truth about the history of these men instead of leaving out important details. Some of the extreme negatives are valuable pieces of information that could help us grow as a country and overall as a world. If we only try to focus on positivity or negativity without any understanding of both parts of the truth then we are depriving ourselves of things that are essential to progress as a humanity.

I have zero issues with a trump carving on Rushmore.

Have it carved no larger than a Barbie doll head so  admirers would need a very powerful set of Bushnell binoculars.

no sooner said than done, artists have already come up with a scaled down, life like version of our 45th leader. No word back yet from the white house...

For any of  ""You People"" who have never visited,  that area is an interesting part of the Dakotas.

Nearby is Crazy Horse Monument,  and if you're not a RockHound,  it's a great time to start.  Not to chop rocks at Crazy Horse,  but in the general vicinity of South Dakota.

When I visited,  my Hostess was local Rapid City SD resident,  and she had a Jeep.  So we didn't actually go into Rushmore tourist district,  but free parkland adjacent.  You can see all the carved heads from next door, and chill out in the woods.

Also the rock formations are flaky stuff full of mica,  which you can scrape / carve with a butter knife.

So after that, we went over to Crazy Horse area,  and since it was late in the day,  the Gate Man let us in for Free.

We didn't get to climb up to the sculpture-in-progress,  but Crazy Horse rock sculpture is much more Huge and Massive in physical dimensions.  They also have built several structures for Education,  tourism and Museum stuff.
