Curfew Roll Call

Seattle has had them the last three nights.  5 p.m.-5 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 6 p.m.-5 a.m. last night.  All the grocery stores shut down, but a few restaurants stayed open.  The sun doesn't go down here until after 9 p.m. this time of year.  About 10:15, there were a lot of sirens going off and a heavy police presence in the U-District.  Still haven't heard what that was all about.  Earlier, around 4:30 p.m. there were reports of looting after a protest down the hill at the U-Village shopping center.  Sounded like most of the big unrest was up on Capitol Hill last night, but things are definitely feeling tenser here too.  Shopping Malls appear to be getting targeted.  Bellevue Square got hit Sunday, and there were incidents at South Center Mall in Tukwila down south, and Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood up north yesterday.

I remember at the end of the JGB Warfield concert on 4-30-92 being warned of the chaos outside on Market Street following the LAPD police acquittal. Head's all empty and nervous we walked a few blocks to a garage past active looting and armed shop owners. Surreal. I fear a repeat and saddened to have to live through another one.

Be Safe

Yep 8pm....but the pools are opening, so that's nice.

Salt Lake

In response to protests about the killing of George Floyd, Salt Lake City issued a new weeklong nighttime curfew and Utah's governor enacted a state of emergency due to the civil unrest on Monday.

Starting Monday and going through June 8, the city's new curfew will go into effect every night at 8 p.m. and will end the next morning at 6 a.m.

Gov. Gary Herbert’s order goes into effect immediately and the State Capitol Complex will temporarily close to the public through Saturday.

State business will continue at the State Capitol throughout the closure — the capitol has been closed to the public since March in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

During curfew hours, individuals are not allowed to be on a public street or in any public place with some exceptions.

Any emergency personnel authorized by the city — such as law enforcement, fire and medical personnel, and credentialed media — are allowed to remain on city streets during curfew hours.

The curfew also doesn’t apply to anyone traveling directly to and from work, attending religious services, obtaining food, caring for someone, or traveling to and from the Salt Lake City International Airport, those seeking medical care, business owners, or those experiencing homelessness.

Chicago suburb 9:00 pm - 6:00 am (6/1 one night only).  So far just last night and a bunch of businesses were smashed and looted.

No curfew in Portland tonight after massive massive peaceful protest last night. police restrained themselves from attacking and the public restrained from violence.

any NYC Zoners still around?

Eugene had localized downtown curfews for 2 nights, citywide last night.

LA county is 6p-6a, hot spots like Santa Monica, Hollywood, and Long Beach are 1p/4p- 6a.

There is some serious organized looting that's going down. These scum have a plan, and finally last night 6up was getting down with these thugs.  Unfortunately this takes away from the message of protestors, and the overall majority of peaceful people.

so true racket

>>6up

>>thugs

lol racket you call them 'daddy' while youre licking their boots, not '6up,' be honest.

Sacramento 8 p.m. to 5 a.m

^We're doing the same thing in Berkeley, which hasn't had much trouble so far (no big department/box stores within city limits).

Emeryville, on the other hand...

Locals are pretty peeved that the grocery stores have been closing at 7pm.

I'm a bit bummed that I'm missing my night walk routine.   Pretty minor inconvenience, all things considered.

Hunkered down in San Jose tonight, 8:30 - 5:00am.

It's so bizarre. I have a little studio where I keep my drums and was about to head over there last night to make some noise when I suddenly realized it was against the law and I could be gunned down for being outside my house.

We suburbanites aren't used to this type of thing, but folks got a little squirrely in San Jo the past few days so I get it.

I just don't like it.

The curfew lasts through Thursday morning here. Hopefully the kids, thieves & professional agitators will have gotten their ya-ya's out by then.

9 p.m.-5 a.m through Saturday now in Seattle.  Just made it back from visiting my sister by 3 minutes.  She lives across town and the interstate through downtown had been closed the last three nights.  Smooth sailing today.

where are the militias to protest the libtard nanny state dictating when they have to go to bed? our troops fought and died for our right to go to bed anytime we want...in accordance with my rights as an american citizen i will stay up as late as i want looting, watching cartoons, and drinking mountian dew.

Some will drink chocolate milk.

Too much Mountain Dew makes your pee green.

It's off-putting.

But exercise your rights daylight.

Ra! Ra! America!

Looters suck

thieves suck

low life criminals

cross purpose agitators suck   Bad actors suck

many people are trying to move the needle of systemic racism / a good thing and mandatory

many cops are pigs and it's been that way for a long time

black lives matter  and blacks have been victims of racial bias for ever

all lives matter

rioting is neither non violent nor violet protest

it is criminals hurting others, and the cause

looters hurt the cause

and curfews  which totally suck result

and the expense is huge, both financially and sociologically

trump is useless  will Bryen be spouting off and annoying and insulting folks in December

life may not be fair/  but that is not a solution

I have no idea whether or not there's a curfew in my town but I'm usually asleep by 9:30 during the week.

No curfew in rural Vermont, but things really never get too crazy up here very often.

<<<>>>all lives matter

do you have one of these?

His image is intended to unironically depict the true meaning of the ignorant refrain "All Lives Matter," friend.

Billie Eilish gives some solid perspective on the phrase "All Lives Matter".

I haven't checked her music out, but she's one of the biggest voices with the under 20 crowd, and I was impressed by her awareness of her platform and of how she used it here.

thanks, I had no idea that all lives matter had any negative connotation

for me it does not detract from black lives matter

but then I am a simpleton

There's no curfew where I live in Kern County, CA, but I got to break LA's on my way home last night and I was not nearly alone on the freeway.

>>I had no idea that all lives matter had any negative connotation

All lives do NOT matter UNLESS and UNTIL BLACK LIVES matter.
To not see that is the negative connotation.

And don't waste time telling me that when you say All Lives Matter that it includes black people lives - because no matter what you say - the way we treat black people as a society is that their lives do not matter.

Probably night 5 at 9pm in ATL,   Walked my dog at 915 as I forgot and it was a ghost town when I went out.

Proud of our Mayor.  She kicks ass.

Your Mayor does indeed kick ass. I saw her on TV last night.

Seems to be a lot of that going around.

Do you think that black lives matter in American society? Not to you - but in American society. Do you think black people in America are treated as if their lives matter?

lltd

tell us what you really think. lol.

Mayor of Salt Lake rescinded the curfew.

Monk: >>Do you think that black lives matter in American society? Not to you - but in American society. Do you think black people in America are treated as if their lives matter?<

HELL NO  our country  /society is way messed up  Blacks (and  many minorities ) are systematically oppressed, with way less net worth, salary, medical care, and way more incarceration, and are actively being treated as lesser human beings

ameriKKKa  still exists  and it almost feels like we are approaching another civil war - with white supremacy being  supported from the highest office in the land, by the dictator / idiot in chief

things must change

FWIW my family has been active in civil rights for many many decades -one brother was a freedom rider leaving Cambridge Mass to Biloxi miss in 1964  to register black voters - kind of a dangerous time-- MLK era   in 1969  A  17 year old black brother was my roommate in Palo Alto so he could go to Palo alto high school - escaping east palo alto / Ravenswood - My mother was board member of mothers for equal education -       I easily could do way more than i do ( and should)

Ogkb:  I am against all violence  And yes, I do often call you out when I think you have gone a bit too far, and make fun of the term centrists, and when you demonstrate what i think is obsessive behavior ( Pelosi, Biden, zoner hate, -- and Alar boys too?) , are "too derogatory"  have Sanders losing resentment / anger,  and  you choose insults to vent / express yourself. I do feel that you attack quite a bit

iI am sure you are well - but please don't have a coronary -     Yes, I "know" you have fun at this ... peace        (psychobabble off)

Mayor Jenny Durkan just acceded to one of the demands of the protesters and has lifted tonight's curfew, allowing the protests to legally carry on.

Curfew in Seattle now lifted completely.  It was originally implemented through Saturday.

Direct action of non-violent protests by citizens demanding their 1st Amendment rights.

Right the fuck on.

No curfew here that I know of.

>>HELL NO  our country  /society is way messed up  Blacks (and  many minorities ) are systematically oppressed, with way less net worth, salary, medical care, and way more incarceration, and are actively being treated as lesser human beings

Well, okay, long live the dead. I agree with you 100% on the above.

Let's dissect what you posted. It seems - from the things you listed above - that black people in the USA are treated horribly and unfairly (to say the very least). Basically, they are treated like their lives do not matter as much as white people's lives.

If they are treated like their lives do not matter - then in reality, black lives do not matter.

If black lives do not matter - then the statement that "all lives matter" is false, because not all lives matter if black lives don't matter.

So when your response to "black lives matter" is that "all lives matter" - you are in effect diminishing the lives of black people.

Think about it.

We can start right here from this very spot to change the way our society thinks.

One mind at a time.

Let's do it!

All Quiet on the Western Front...

It’s not that all lives don’t matter equally, LLTD.

It’s that black lives clearly matter less (right now), and effecting that that is what our collective intention should remain focused on.

To respond and declare that “all lives matter”, even with loving intent, is to unintentionally subvert the message which is that right now; black lives matter. As white people, our personal focus, and awareness, right now, is needed by black people. This is what is meant by using your privilege. Your have a louder voice than black people do in our society. That is literally what white privilege is. And right now we all need to claim awareness of that privilege and use it to elevate black people.

Similarly, you may have heard the phrase “blue lives matter”, which is a response rooted in hostility, intended to overwhelm the actual issue entirely that black lives actually do matter, and just bascally replacing that sentiment with the idea that “blue lives matter more.”

the “more” part is obviously silent.

if some find the phrase " all lives matter"  offensive, or denigrating the effort for equality in some way, then i will refrain - personally I did not see it as counter to fighting for equality, but I will do all to focus on  equal opportunity and treatment for all #blacklivesmatter

Curfew has been lifted in LA.

one question, where was the ACLU during the 3 months of covid lockdown?
