RIP heart

So overwhelmingly sad, frustrating, infuriating... you get it.

.03%

I sure do, and I fear the worst is still to come.

Stay safe, and stay strong Judit.

Racket, I think it's closer to a 2% increase annually.

Who said anything about increase?

You, too, RRG.

The number Racket cites is the percentage of deaths based on total US population.  The number is still less than the US numbers for the 1968 Hong Kong Flu outbreak (.05%) and is half that of the 1957 Avian Flu pandemic (.06%).   Of course, that's cold comfort for people personally affected by this latest pandemic and we aren't out of the woods yet even with the daily death toll and hospital admissions steadily decreasing.   Moreover, this time around, there have been extraordinary measures taken to prevent the spread of the virus, which presumably have so far helped keep the numbers down.

The US has turned out to be the epicenter for this one and thankfully the global deaths from Covid-19 are just a fraction of those in 1968 and 1957.  Again, the aggressive lock downs and robust response have likely kept it from being much worse.

Trump Killed Americans_0.JPG

I've lost 10 people I know (mostly friends family, all back east)

As a former CAT Scan /  X-ray tech, I can tell you that my former coworkers got slammed, it was ugly, and the virus has a very unique look on scans.

We don't have accurate numbers to use for percentages of deaths among those afflicted.

This has mostly occurred in two months, and spring months, which aren't flu months.

This disease is nothing like the flu, as it kicks the living shit out of you, often leaving residual health issues we don't have a clue on since it's so new  (toes appearing like they're frost bitten, other vascular issues...   the shingles and chicken pox might be analogous)

The flu puts very few people in the hospital, and they're usually out pretty quick...  this virus is the opposite

A mask might be incomplete protection in lab situations, but it makes a huge difference in most everyday situations

Next fall could really freaking suck

Racket s ok with a low death ratio (being an asshole?)  with a super high infection number???

wtf

only ???

how about a long walk off a short pier

you can die as well   No big, everyone died? Right

yay trump!!!!

That's what you assumed from my post?  You should see a doctor.  The voices are only going to get worse.

K don't explain mr riddle

it must have been obvious to more intelligent folks    Lol

or perhaps you should articulate what you were / were not trying to express

how do you feel about the pandemic?

and how our government has handled it?

bay far the highest percentage of infection per capital in the world/ ya wanna speak to that?

i need  voices

Flu mortality is low -- assuming 56 million people were infected with the flu this season and 62,000 of them died, the death rate is still 0.1%.

In the US, where more than 1,680,000 people have been infected and nearly 100,000 have died, the death rate is closer to 5.9%.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/27/health/second-peak-coronavirus-explained-...

New data from CDC estimates COVID 19 mortality rate is 0.4%, significantly lower than previously reported

We're not even half way thru this.  They expect this number to double by the end of August.

I heard an interesting discussion on NPR yesterday about this.  One of the interviewees suggested that the moratorium on funerals has inhibited the public's perception of these numbers.  As the states open back up and funerals begin to proceed, the reality of these losses will hit home.

This stadium holds just shy of 102,000 people.

Number of deaths for leading causes of death:

Heart disease: 647,457

Cancer: 599,108

Accidents (unintentional injuries): 169,936

Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 160,201

Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 146,383

Alzheimer’s disease: 121,404

Diabetes: 83,564

Influenza and Pneumonia: 55,672

Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis: 50,633

Intentional self-harm (suicide): 47,173

And to think that such a big deal was made about 4 dead in Ohio.

Lassen has always been a piece of shit.

Lets just hope that almost all of the upcoming deaths are of people who don't think its a big deal.

jesus can't save you

Lassen, are you missing some  covid data???

underreported as it is....

wtf

^The statistics i posted were merely to provide perspective.

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm

Those numbers are annually?

Covid19 has 100,000+ in three months.

Most of those you posted are not communicable diseases, covid is.

A list of non-contagious diseases provides zero perspective with regard to a pandemic.

The 1st case in the U.S. was reported in January- that's greater than 4 months ago.

Also:

New data from CDC estimates COVID 19 mortality rate is 0.4%, significantly lower than previously reported

https://www.wcnc.com/article/news/health/coronavirus/data-cdc-estimates-...

Finally, per health authorities, dying with covid = dying of covid .  The death numbers are inflated IMO

Ok, four months, if that rate continues we are looking at over 300,000 dead by the end of the year.

And this is with  a 2 month lockdown in much of the country

>The death numbers are inflated IMO<

epidemiologist and public health officials believe that covid19 deaths are unreported, but I guess you know better.

And I guess all those who died of kaposi sarcoma didn't really die because of AIDS?

Again, of those causes of death you posted, how many are communicable diseases?

Guess what else is underreported?  Infections.

^Too bad the Trump administration has bungled the response and failed to institute a comprehensive testing and contact tracing program.

Oh, and regardless of the number of infections, over 100,000 Americans  have died in a little over four months.

And the number of dead is likely significantly higher.

It seems like there is quite a grey area as far as the "official" numbers are concerned.

Are the numbers based on hospitalizations plus infections diagnosed by a doctor and test?

How many people are infected and just fight it out at home and it goes unreported?

How many of those people were out spreading it before they were symptomatic?

How many have it but never show symptoms but are out spreading it around?

The bottom line is this is a novel virus and not much is known about it other than it can be spread very easily and it can kick some peoples ass and not have much affect on other people. Play it safe. Where a fucking mask until we know more about it.

Mount Lassen is a beautiful mountain

when I was a boy I went to summer camp there

You mr Lassen seem incredibly callus (not beautiful)

the exact percentage of death per infection may / may not be Lower

and it is # infected tines death ratio that leads to a hell of a lot of dead Americans with thousands more to come

Hey, is a lower percentage a fucking victory in your book??  Wtf man

the empathy and sadness flowing  from you is overwhelming

damn was it really four months?  Wow

Lassen

Lassen County, a county of 30,000 people in the far reaches of Northern California, was one of the first places in the state to reopen in early May. But this week, it became the first to reverse course because of a resulting coronavirus outbreak.

The best ski descent on Mt. Lassen is the north side. Highway 89 becomes plowed to the “Devastated” parking area in early spring. This is a 3ish hour drive from Truckee and puts you about 4000′ below the summit. The snow is at your car and you rarely share the peak with more than one other party if any. The snow on the north side will be fairly smooth through the end of May and sometimes pretty good through June. The top looks extremely steep from far away, but it’s not bad. You can enter the north side on either side of the peak with a slope angle of about 35 degrees, or have fun walking down into the 40+ degree start just under the summit rocks. Remember; don’t drive north on hwy 89 from Truckee thinking your’e going to get to the devastated area parking lot before July. Check the Mt. Lassen road conditions on their website.
