So I was out in the sticks of extreme eastern Oregon last weekend and stopped in the little hamlet of Imnaha - the easternmost town in Oregon at the base of the Hells Canyon National Recreational Area.
There was a little store, Imnaha Store and Tavern, so we stopped in to pick up some beer and walked into something straight out of the Wild West.
There was no cell service in the town, but this 100+ year old place had it all. Traditional country store with groceries on one side and a bar on the other side, with plenty of taxidermy, snarky signs, free pool table, and John Wayne movies on the TV. They also have an ongoing "Rattlesnake Competition" wherein locals bring in snakes in exchange for prizes and the tavern converts the snakes into shit to sell to tourists. "No Live Snakes" read the signs.
Wallowa County had just entered "Phase 1" allowing bars and restaurants to open for service with restrictions, but we were the only ones in there early afternoon and when I asked if they were serving the beer, the barmaid (in Pink Floyd shirt) went off on a tirade about the "nonsense" closure (Wallowa County has had one - count em - confirmed cases) and was all too happy to serve us. We ordered a round of beers, shot some pool, picked up some beer to go, and my son bought a hat. If you are ever in Imnaha, I highly recommend stopping in for a true slice of Americana.
Have any of you all been out to the bar since the re-openings?

El Nino,
El Nino,
Back in the day we used to go to the waterfalls in Washington quite often.
Memorial Day weekend, however, used to be for Hell Angels only.
They parked their bikes on the bridge, so only foot traffic was allowed and it was enter at your own risk.
I wonder if the tradition is still going on.

Washington is like a little
Washington is like a little toothless time capsule of California. What a place. Haven’t been to Imnaha, but I intend to one day.
The Valley Bar In Centerville, Nevada is where I cut my teeth. It burned down about 15 years ago but I’m surprised it didn’t burn decades sooner to be honest. Their Armadillo chili was off the chain. https://aroundcarson.com/2006/03/27/valley_bar_burned_down/

Palmer snowfield on Mt. Hood
Palmer snowfield on Mt. Hood is typically open most of the summer -- I think the US ski team used to train there part of the year.... or maybe also at Mt Bachelor in Bend.
Even though I only snowshoed, it was worth the trip.... wish I would have remembered sunscreen, ouch. I grew up skiing in fog / snow / ice / clouds.

I love the old out of the way
I love the old out of the way eateries around the great Northwest. There's 2 bars down the road from my Montana mining claims, even though the town only has 85 people, they're both busy too! (Melrose, MT). The steak dinner is $33, comes with salad and baked tater, or, you can get the steak sandwich, which is the same steak, only with texas toast and fries, for $11, what the locals get (with a side salad, lol). Local legends around there would include Benny Reynolds (got to meet, RIP), he won the 1961 World Rodeo Championship, while meeting his first wife on "Name that Tune" the same week as the Rodeo (NYC). Many cool stories
https://archive.org/details/NameThatTune
On the flip side, the guy in a Wagontire OR greasy spoon / motel was grossly disfigured (face) after an oil fire at a previous cooking gig in the Bend area... wasn't real appealing eating food while he stood in front of us, lol.
And since the other eating at home thread needed a very large spit shield, i'll just say that at the beginning I ate at home exclusively, but that's somewhat normal for me. But after a month of the stay at home order, I started to support the downtown eateries much more frequently. Fortunately, most of our liberal college town shut down immediately, and we became pretty safe. So been a pleasure to support the old standards like the Peacock Bar and Grill, Old World Deli, New Morning Bakery, etc, along with the newer Bellhop, and various food trucks around downtown. Bellhop makes great fries!

Yeah lifts spinning and
Yeah lifts spinning and skiing was good. I will add a picture below. As far as Charlie's Mountain View Tavern, it was up running and most tables were full when I stopped in around 1:30. Saw some locals I knew that pulled me over to an 8 top table and we had drinks and shot the shit for a little bit. It felt like a regular bar, however they were not seating at the actual bar top and they had like 50% capacity for seating. Still felt good.

Great photo, glad you got to get out there. Good on the bar too. We've been able to have small gatherings
at our place for a while, usually outside. (Ping pong with social distancing, blah blah blah). We are all careful and are in
a place with a very low rate of people who have it. (That we know of, of course).
I forget it's still winter some places when it's 80 here.
