Yankee Stadium to Host Weekly Drive-In Concerts and Movies All Summer Long

According to a report by Time Out, this summer New York’s Yankee Stadium will repurpose its parking lots to host socially distant entertainment in a new program called Uptown Drive-In.

“The carnival-like experience, set to happen every weekend starting in July, will be a combination of a drive-in movie, live-music concert featuring local NYC artists, and will even feature carside dinner service from beloved New York street vendors,” reads the article.

Reportedly the stage will be raised so attendees can watch from the comfort of their vehicles and audio will be piped in via radio.

The schedule will accommodate “date-night experiences on Friday, Saturday and Sundays, and a family-friendly brunch series during the day on Saturdays and Sundays.”

The project will be spearheaded by MASC Hospitality Group – who put on Bronx Night Market, the Bronx Beer Festival and Uptown Epicure Festival – and performers/prices for the events are still being determined.

“We’re working with city and state officials, and some of our sponsors to reduce cost as much as we can to be able to make this very affordable, and for as many New Yorkers as possible,” MASC’s Marco Shalma told Time Out.

Cool! I'd love to sit in my car in a Bronx parking lot in mid summer and listen to the radio.

People have lost their fucking minds.

Because of social distancing is it one person per car!

No bathrooms. No food service. Stay in your car. Pee in a Snapple bottle and pack a cheese platter  - it's fun and festive!

You can roll down your window 3.9 inches in accordance with Cuomo regulations.

....but it's about the experience, not the comfort, LOL.

....at least someone is trying to be creative to offer options for summer...

When would an event like this ever happen again?

Smoking weed at home is a fun experience worth repeating.

Agree!

This will be a boom for the last remaining drive in movies.   There is one in Newberg, two counties over, which is opening up for the season this weekend.   Don't see why they couldn't hold concerts in addition to movies.

Drove through a tiny town in far eastern Oregon last Sunday morning and saw a drive up church service in progress.

>>This will be a boom for the last remaining drive in movies.

yes. i saw the announcement here that drive-ins could reopen and my first thought was "i didn't know there were any left".

Does Yankee Stadium even have a parking lot?  Don't they just have parking garages?  Met Life Stadium or Citi Field maybe?

"The Carnival-Like Experience...."

Yes, because you know what P.T. Barnum said....

They're going to have to provide bathrooms. How will they do that and keep it all sanitized?

And sitting in my car listening to a live band through my car stereo?

I won't be attending any of these.

The roving nitrous balloon vendors will make a killing.

>>I won't be attending any of these.

Coming all the way from California? I wouldn't think you would.

< The Carnival-Like Experience...."

They're known as Bleacher Creatures, God love em, and if any of them are in attendance expect your event to be harassed

If it takes one families mind away from the fucked up mess in NY for a couple of hours,  I would think it is worth the efforts

i think this is a great idea.

all you animals will be in your own vehicles.

Where's this going to happen?  These lots hold a combined 9000 spaces.  If it's just in one of them, it won't have much capacity.

The Yankees didn't come up with this idea. It's been talked about around here too.
