I was there. Went the night before and parked on a dirt road. 24 hours later we had trouble finding the car. Good times. NRPS, Marshall Tucker, Grateful Dead.
Ok That's some kick ass archival footage, especially the live snippets of The Dead performance. Funny how the News station did their best to spin it negative. At least the News at that time gave John Scher a complete statement. He would have gotten a 5 second sound byte today. A lot of it rang true like the trash everywhere afterwards. I loved seeing the "security perimeter" footage of the huge ring of truck containers that proved quite ineffective keeping out gate crashers. That brought back memoriesl!
It was NJ's own little Woodstock for us. At the end of the day, it was all about the music, and 8 plus hours of New Riders, Marshall Tucker and The Grateful Dead played to me and 150,000 of my best friends was a life altering game-changer. It was my 2nd Dead show but the one that made me a Deadhead for Life!!!

I remember reading Burningman coverage in the Reno paper in the late 90's and it was all about drug busts and OD's. By the early 2000's after they realized how much money was pouring into Reno from the event the coverage was all about Grandma going with her grandkids and baking cookies for the burners and all the wonderful art.
The band didn't play the full 'Terrapin' at Englishtown not because of Bob's double-neck guitar (which he had ready to go), but because Mickey was feeling too tired at the end of the show. Remember that Mickey was drumming with multiple broken bones at Englishtown.
Mickey Hart: "I had just come back from an incredible accident. I had totaled my Porsche and I was all broken up. My ribs were broken and my shoulder was dislocated, and this was my first gig back in five weeks after an operation... I didn't know if my shoulder would hold together, 'cause we hadn't rehearsed, and I hadn't opened it up. It was the hardest gig of my life."
Bob Weir: "We had worked up ['Terrapin Flyer'] for the Englishtown show. I even put on the double-necked twelve-string and I was gonna play it. But then Mickey decided at the last moment that it was too hot and he was exhausted - that 'Flyer' section requires a whole lot of energy from the drummers, 'cause they're doing 32nd notes at a pretty good clip, and he has to hold one arm up and do 32nd notes on the cymbal all through the section. So we scrapped it."
