With today's update, Washington has now dropped to #19 in the list of reported COVID-19 cases among the U.S. states and territories.  Considering that we were once #1 and had some of the earliest reported cases and deaths, Washington has done a good job of slowing the spread of this virus.  We're still adding new cases daily, but our health system hasn't been overwhelmed and has had time to pad their supplies and prepare their staffs for what may be coming.  With North Carolina passing us yesterday, we may not get out of the top 20.   Tennessee is next, about a thousand cases back, but have been holding steady at that distance behind Washington for the last week.  When things start to more generally reopen here, we'll get a clearer picture.  Hopefully, testing, tracing and isolating, and wearing masks in public become commonplace by then.

Progressive educated liberals tend to do better than red necks when it comes to the whole COVID thing.

Population density has a lot to do with it. This chart from Utah may disprove the progressive educated liberals vs. red necks theory.

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s number of COVID-19 cases has increased by 146 from Sunday, with no new reported deaths, according to the Utah Department of Health.

Monday’s totals give Utah 7,384 total confirmed cases, with 595 total hospitalizations and 80 total deaths from the disease. Previously, there were 7,238 cases in the state.

The new numbers indicate a 2% increase in positive cases since Sunday. Of the 174,022 tests conducted in Utah so far, 4.2% were positive for COVID-19. There were 3,270 tests conducted from Sunday to Monday, the health department said.

Nine more people were hospitalized since Sunday, and 98 people are currently hospitalized with the disease in Utah.

The total number of cases reported by the health department includes all cases of COVID-19 since Utah’s outbreak began, including those who are infected now, those who have recovered from the disease, and those who have died.

The health department now estimates that 4,183 people have recovered from COVID-19 in Utah. Anyone who was diagnosed with the disease three or more weeks ago and has not died is considered to be recovered.

Ignorant bigots tend to do the worst.

“Ignorant bigots tend to do the worst.”

Yes but according to the news he’s taking his hydroxychloroquine like a good boy so I’m sure he’s gonna pull through

LOL @ Fishcane

Yep, he'll pull thru alright :)

JR, do you actually consider yourself a progressive?

One can only hope, Thom. (ignorant bigots)

I have an autographed HRC picture with Oprah. Does that count Mark?

okay thom I am sorry. You are right.

Tennessee just surpassed Washington last night in reported cases, with Minnesota just a couple of hundred cases back.  We're currently #20, and should drop another spot in the next day or two.

Lots of Washington counties have moved to Stage 2, which allows for hair salons, and most retail stores to resume.  The governor is only allowing it in counties that have 10 or less positive cases per 10,000 residents.   The current shutdown for everyone not at that threshold expires June 1, but it will probably be extended in areas with case counts exceeding the 10 for every 10,000 level.  My county, King County, home of Seattle and the largest population in the state is currently at 39 cases per 10,000, making us the ninth highest rate in the state.  It's not looking good for my hopes to reopen the shop or to get a haircut in 9 days.
