What's up Zoners,
I hope you're all healthy and well in difficult times. With everyone's increased time at home, I figure now is a great time to start the VLZ Home Improvement thread. This past April made a year since I moved into my home and I love it more with each passing day as we settle further and further into our little spot in the world. I really couldn't be happier with how things unfolded and have a moment or two each week where a feeling of "Fuck yea- I love this place" comes over me.
I've been meaning to start this thread for over a month now but have been so busy working from home and taking care of my daughter as her full time parent. Breadwinner and house maker. Our families help out which is nice and allows for me to have a few hours to myself to spend around the yard- working, relaxing, hobbies. I slept with a woman the beginning of March the week before lockdown and we've been chatting through this and we're hanging out in the park next week so I'm pumped on that.
Anyway, below's a list of some projects around the house- any input/dialogue encouraged.
- Need to repair the concrete steps out front of my house. On a budget. *See picture below.
- Setting up an indoor grow up. I got my medical marijuana card and can grow 12 plants legally. Likely going to start 4-6 and see how that works for me. LED grow tent 4' x 8'. Looking to no til organic
- Repair my sinking deck (I'll upload pictures later)
- Powerwash my house next week
My front steps leading up to my house from the driveway are made of concrete and are falling apart-quick. Pictures below:
What are you all working on around your homes?

I built a new gate last week
I built a new gate last week for my fence to the back yard. That was fun. I am going to clean my wood deck so I can prep it for re-staining. I am running out of projects. One thing the stay at home has been good for, I have knocked out the "Honey do" list for sure. I need to change a sprinkler head this weekend as well.

A no-till tent grow as a very first foray into cannabis cultivation? Well, that’s ambitious.
Currently trying to remove old oil stains from asphalt via several trial and error methods.
That “I love this place” feeling sure is a good one. Glad you’ve found your home, man. Even if it’s just for a while, that’s an achievement.

A few minor repairs. Couple of outlets aren't working so my cousin who is a union electrician will fix. Majority of the painting has been completed. There are a couple of spots to touch up. Reinstall a railing going up the stairs. Eventually switch out the tile in the kitchen. Thankfully, that's about it at the moment.

Turtle, there was a (Hep-C) Zoner years ago named Resaca Rat who made quite a few cigar box guitars. I was so impressed. Seems like a great project, even with limited tools if they're the right ones.

Better get a good bonding agent Jay, and probably some kind of sealer when your done. Are they cinder blocks with a skim coat of cement? I think they make some kind of rubberized paint that seals too, but I have never used it

lol yup. I'm the sort of person who commits fully to something they're emotionally connected or passionate about. Growing weed is something that has been vetted through and through and the internet continues to serve up deep knowledge on all matters of the subject. I think I got this. I'll be uploading pics here soon of the setup.
>>>Great thread! I have a similar front stairway repair needed, and a sloping first floor in a 1914 house.
My house was made in 1916. I love an old, solid house.
>>>Beating back the blackberries
I was looking at some blackberry plants the nursery had a sale on this week. I have about 20 feet of fence- I wonder if they'd do well getting partial sunlight? Most morning sun would be blocked by the fence. PM partial sun.

Our contractor bailed as soon
Our contractor bailed as soon as this 'Rona' thing started. Keeps saying he'll come back but I can't get him up here so I'm on task as soon as I get through a big deadline this week. First up is the baseboard in the closet. It seems easy enough but will have to get a nail gun and figure out what to do with the gap between the wall and the last wood flooring plank which appears to be just a hair bigger than the thickness of baseboard. Might have to put quarter round down to hide it along this one wall. Good news is most of it will be hidden by shelves but I'd still like it to look nice. Been watching you tube videos about corners and what degrees to cut them. Evidently 45.5 degrees is better than 45. Who knew?
Almost got the front yard to a good place.
Now if I could find someone to tile the back porch and finish the laundry room.

Well I haven't gotten too
Well I haven't gotten too many home improvement jobs accomplished, but today I called a guy from Craiglist who has a couple Kiddy pools for free.
I actually have a few already, but one has become Frog Sanctuary and the other is for Dog wading.
These I'll use for mixing up soil for flowers and veggies. I like to add extra ingredients to the expensive Pro-Mix, and the kiddy pools work well for that.
