Treasure Trove of Music (CDs, DVDs, VHS)

Forums:

With lots of people going completely digital and streaming, you can find some real deals on older music formats.  But its especially cool when you suddenly get your entire long lost old music collection back that you thought was gone forever.

10 years ago, I went through a rather nasty divorce and fled the relationship with seriously not much more than my clothes on my back.   Things have since thankfully calmed down and I guess my ex was doing some clearing out of stuff and didn't want our old hard format music collection anymore.  My adult son is back in town because of the whole pandemic thing and brought me over my old music collection!

Hundreds and hundreds of albums on CD plus hundreds more SBD GD shows.  Every Bob Dylan and Bob Marley album known to man, Parliament-Funkadelic, James Brown and JBs, out of print albums from local bands, etc. I also got a some junk like a couple boxes of empty jewel cases, but so fun to have all my old music back!   There was even a lot of concerts and what not on VHS, like Grateful Dawg and WSP's "The Earth Will Swallow You."  Don't know how I could watch them, but understand that VHS is now cool again (be kind, rewind).

Anyway, just starting to dig through the boxes and finding gem after gem.   I probably replaced about a third of it in the last decade, so there will be good pickings at the local Goodwill and used records stores once they open back up with all the duplicates.

  Way nice, and congrats !

Wow!

That's cool!

Wow, what a great thing to happen. It's a GOOD day!!!  Have fun looking through and rediscovering the gems, and the memories. Congratulations!

Great story, Ken... happy for you.

Excellent Ken! Seems like good timing.

....And good on the ex for not tossing the whole lot in a dumpster.
I'm all in on old school CD/DVD/VHS.

Awesome Ken!

(locally i'd take the extras to Happy Trails Records and Tapes)

Be Kind Rewind! Had to chuckle at that!

And are VHS tapes really making a comeback!?

Have a David Crosby free solo show I recorded in a park in NJ on video in 93 that is just David and Jeff Pevar that is a good one until I got shot down by David's people. Has most of the show though. Would post it on Youtube but don't have the equipment to transfer it to CD and post it on YT. Haven't seen it in years. I guess I might revisit it soon. Crosby was in a happy mood.

Doolittle, what format did you shoot that on?
Let's try to get that transferred.

^ It's on a Scotch VHS-C Compact TC-20 tape. I don't think I still have a VHS player to even watch it anymore? Used to use a VHS adapter to watch it before. I still might have the camera somewhere. Would it be possible to use the camera to transfer it to my computer somehow? Would need the correct cables but imagine the technology from 93 isn't compatible today?

I have a DVD/VHS machine that is supposed to make copies but I admit in 7 or so years I haven't tried to use that function.

I'll try to find a blank DVD and see if I can copy something.

Fuck, just saw the "compact" part. I may have a friend who can do it, I'll ask him if you're interested.

All you need for the compact is a real VHS sized adapter which I have somewhere. You put the small compact into the VHS sized adapter and play it on your VHS machine. I think it might need batteries. I could send you them both and you send them back when your done!? I trust you as I know you've been around this site for awhile.

Your on the West coast if I recall?

Ken, can you please send JP (Tatters) some 3-Dog Night and Manhattan Transfer records?

DL, it looks like it should work; I tried to record a VHS copy of Hells Angles Forever onto a DVD that already had something on it and it said

"Can't record on this disc" so I have to find a blank one and try again. We'll see.

Not a rewriteable disc! I'm sure I can find a way to do it here but I really am not so preoccupied with it. Like I said it's been years since I've seen it. Might be cheaper and easier to do it here, though I have no problem sending it to you and you take care of it. Either way I would happily give you a copy of it!

I hear you. I have a shitload of things to deal with, just trying to help out because it's good to archive that stuff and get it

out on YouTube or wherever, just so it's now there and people can see it.
