Why we love live rock 'n roll

Forums:

It's a little windy, but it's on point, and he does write pretty good for a drummer...

I know being out among the people is what I'm missing most from all this.

Wouldn't a teacher say he writes pretty "well" not pretty "good"

jeeze  ok now tell me to FO

OK I'll go read it now

When you look out at the audience,” he wrote, “you should see yourself in them, just as they should see themselves in you.”

we are not alone.  We are imperfect. We need each other

I too need that sonic cathedral

in two days it will be two months since my last live show.  I am still wearing the disintegrating wristband

cuz I can't / won't let go ..... Some might say I am unstable

The Saddle Rack in Fremont is now closed for good. Not my kind of deal, but guess they drew big crowds for decades.

(Country Western bar, line dancing, mechanical bull, etc).

When they were at the original location in San Jose, Garcia and Neil played there, among others.

I've heard it was a very weird scene for a JGB show; I'm sure it was.

One more hangout for a lot of people, gone.

Definitely a Bay Area institution gone.....

Great article by David Groh!

Aren't you from San Jose, Lance? I imagine as a younger man you rode that bull at least once.

I believe I saw James Brown at the San Jose location

But I've been known to be confused with some of my memories from time to time (because of time)

ok it is very likely   https://donmussell.smugmug.com/Music/James-Brown-1982/

Gee, how did I know this was a Tom thread?.....

Good article.

>>>Wouldn't a teacher say he writes pretty "well" not pretty "good"<<<

I've never taught English and I'd never want to. It's a clunky language with WAY too many rules. Freakin' rules.

And yes I did go to the old San Jose Saddle Rack a handful of times when I was young. It was NOT my scene at all at the time (or ever really) especially because I didn't drink way back then. We went because it was a place to go... and maybe because there were LOTS of young ladies there.

It was impressively huge though, with two stages on opposite ends of the very large room, so when one band would finish their set another would start up on the other stage. It was VERY "active", very much like the place depicted in the movie Urban Cowboy.

Because it was never my scene I never paid any attention to what went on there so I missed all of the few good shows I would have been interested in. I didn't know about that Jerry show until after it happened, but I wasn't too disappointed because the place was huge and a dive in general.

I had a few friends that liked going there, but for me there were too many drunks, too many fights and I wasn't a California Cowboy (i.e. a wanna'be). It's funny that 20 years later I often found myself in the middle of much larger, much more drunken and thus MANY more fights California Cowboy situations that made the 'Rack look minor league.

I never did learn to like it.

Too clunky to like?

let go when doing music

tighten up when speaking English, OK?

You first.

I would love to see live music and let go

i suspect that you have no doubt that I would let go..... (possibly  regrets, but there would be no doubt (and no Gwen stefani ))

Don't discount Gwen Stefani. She's excellent.

But I actually do have some doubt about your ability to let go, because letting go implies that one initially has a grip.

Either way, I was talking more about 'you first' on tightening up your English.

Let's just say you're not at the front of the line for critiquing anyone else's writing skills.

(Rules or no rules, punctuation is our friend)

Whatever, I really miss being in a crowd.

((( punctuation is our friend )))

          I love commas.

I like being an idiot

we need it

It's ecstatically part of our bond

fuck punctuation you group mind controllers

(jk?)

I idiot more than you, you big brim downer

and one could, and does, argue that one can be lost, and lose it more, or be gone, and let go more

>Don't discount Gwen Stefani. She's excellent<

Really?

>I know being out among the people is what I'm missing most from all this<

I don't miss that one bit, but I'm not very gregarious.

While I would enjoy going to a show, I won't be attending any until there is an effective vaccine.

Its all in the receptors

i still can't read LLTD's posts.

i think you need to be on acid -- which is fine, kinda cool actually.

interesting posting style for sure.

>>>I like being an idiot<<<

That's what I'm saying! I try my best, and in general I think I do it pretty good.

And yeah, while I'm not a big fan of her musical style Gwen Stefani is damn talented, and I've had a couple of opportunities to be around her & interact with her a bit, and she was super cool. She went out of her way to be really nice to some kids, and being nice to kids is the fast-track to my good side.

And I have ALWAYS loved a crowd. Even as a kid I've always been at ease in large groups, I love the energy and I love watching people. You're all pretty damn funny.

Right now it's those ballgames and the roar for the home team that I'm missing most, but there is really nothing like when a crowd has been waiting for a concert to start and then the house lights go down and the ROAR goes up!

DAMN I love that shit!

I don't know that I love rock and roll so much as I lust for it.

I know that I do.

The buzz of the crowd that gradually intensifies until it boils over when the lights go down and the performer takes the stage with a thunder that blows your mind and rattles your bones.

Getting together with friends and recounting every detail of a show...15 years in the past and knowing that you will be with at least some of those friends at a show 15 years in the future.

Seeing an unknown band open up for a favorite and after the show searching out all you can find out about the band as well as buying all their records because you realize that your world was missing something.

Watching a performer on stage that you have watched many times before and being able to predict where they will move and the movements they will make just by visual tells and still being excited when they do it.

The post-show glow that has you recounting the moments so they are burned into your memory for life.

I could go on with these for a long time but probably not as long as I will love rock

let's eat gramma!

let's eat, gramma!

Hey Lance.  I saw on another thread that you're retiring?  If so, congratulations and well done.  I'm sure they're going to miss you at the old homestead.

I would say now you have more time for shows, but not so much right now.

Cheers.
