I used to mistakenly think Bobby McFerrin was a one hit wonder, then I stumbled across is 1984 album, The Voice. He's an amazing talent, and I've yet to hear a record of his that is anything less than great.
I saw Taj Mahal at a tiny bar in NH once...it's not listed on an archive list...it was something like the white horse tavern in milford, NH, in the late 80's. It was so small, we talked, requested songs, had a great time. Very low-key.
good to see McFerrin's talents ~ I had pegged him as a one-hit wonder. Now I know better!
Mark/Thibes...yeah, it was in the late 80's....I don't think half the audience knew who he was....! I should look through old journals to find the date....

McFerrin was a Bay Area
McFerrin was a Bay Area sensation for quite a while, but I always wished he'd get away from the vocal histrionic/showoffy stuff and just sing more.

I worked at a water park in 1984. The worker appreciation party included a Taj Mahal show.
They provided food and lots of kegs. Nancy Reagan was not aware. Lol!
