Peloton Ad redux

Forums:

Now would be a good time to rerun that controversial Peloton Ad. It might just  be viewed in a new light.

No, I don't have a Peloton but am grateful for my low budget elliptical machine.

How are  you staying in shape during the pandemic?

I run(am training for Chicago marathon in October) and have access to hundreds of miles of open water paddling without leaving my property so spend a lot of time in my solo canoe

100 pushups a day and intermittent barbell and dumbbell stuff around my house.

I gained 6 pounds so far. I feel like I just walk around my house and then shrug "Well I guess I'll eat again".

12-oz beer curls

5 oz wine curls

2 oz tequila shots

puffing

walking

yard work

regular profound exclamations of "f&ck!"

hard farm labor and amphetamines

I pulled out my old, off-brand Total Gym. It works well enough, but it isn't quite the same. Also been walking about 3 miles a day.

I do about a half hour of calisthenics and yoga every morning.  Combined with monitoring my diet, avoiding refined sugars and caffeine, walking daily, and staying on my feet throughout the day, I've dropped over 40 pounds over the last 9 months.

I used to do hundreds of push-ups, but while that was building muscle mass, it wasn't helping me lose weight.  It also was giving me soreness in my shoulders.  I changed my workout to focus on my core and flexibility.  I do full planks now, with only the palms of my hands and tip toes on the floor, and try to keep the rest of my body flat as a board.

After stretching for about 15 minutes, my workout is the downward dog pose, with heels flat on the ground>planks>arms fully extended over my head alternating with crossing my arms at the wrists while extending my arms overhead>wall squats.  Each of these I hold for a 600 count currently.  When I started this workout about a year ago, it was a 100 count.  I sporadically add on another 25 to my count when I feel comfortable at the current plateau and my body tells me it's time to up the workout.

Physically, this has increased my stamina, without bulking up my muscle mass.  My shoulders don't hurt anymore.  Most importantly, losing weight has reduced the stress on my knees.  My left knee used to hurt so bad that I was having trouble just walking to the store and thought surgery was the only solution.  That is no longer the case, as I am walking pain free.

Psychologically, it is reassuring to see my body having a positive response.  I've been dealing with a skin cancer diagnosis since September, and knowing that my stamina is increasing is a signal that my symptoms aren't worsening.  It's great to have dropped a few pants sizes and dig out old pieces of clothing I am able to fit in again.  It's also nice to hear positive comments from people I haven't seen for a long while.

As COVID-19 seems especially troublesome for those afflicted with obesity and diabetes, I feel fortunate to have started this fitness program when I did.  As it is also tricky for those with respiratory issues, I have taken another hiatus from smoking weed.  Suppose I would use edibles or tinctures, but haven't felt the need.

As of today, I am closing my store due to our governor's mandate for the first time other than major holidays in 15 years.   The order is in effect until at least April 6th, so I will have lots more time on my hands to read, play some guitar, go on longer walks, and to work in my sister's garden.

It's a process, but a good one.

Stay healthy Zoners.

Inside painting (1 room done so far, prepping 2nd one now), some outside yardwork (raking and winter cleanup) got lots more to go. Then when I find the time, long walks.

Running around at work tending to people and plants. Fortunate to still be working and not ill yet.

Landscaping and gardening

Recumbent bike

and I have a small nautilus weight machine that has stations for bench press, curls, pull downs, pull ups, leg presses and leg lifts

i really have a bike Jones developing, just sitting there pedaling going nowhere, no matter how good the music is, is getting old. I have a massive bike trail right by the home, and I need to get on it.

I'm cleaning pools.

Resistance/pulley contraption for my rotator cuff thing.

Walking.  We live in a valley.  Steep hills a half-block away in two directions.
