Brand-New Secondhand Korg Tuner.  Let's face it,  anyone who dabbles in music can always use another one.

So it was priced at $7.00 but,  Yellow Tag 1/2  off. $3.50 and it came with box, manual and warranty,  plus original batteries of brand you've never seen before. I put some fresh AAA in there and it works a treat.

But what sort of fiend donates a perfectly good Korg tuner to Salvation Army?

A lot of guitarists prefer the small clip on tuners rather than ones that need to be plugged into or that rely on a microphone (not practical in noisy places).

Nice score.

All Seattle area Goodwill outlets are now closed to at least April 2nd.  Fortunately, I've acquired enough records to keep me busy for the next few years.  Most of my stock comes from individuals selling or trading them to me at my store, which will continue, but I will miss digging at the Goodwill.  It was a usually pleasant diversion on my lunch break, and took me back to the roots of my record collecting and dealing.  I compare it to a pastime like fishing.  You never know if you'll catch anything, but it's a nice break from the usual grind, and sometimes you hit the jackpot.  I always enjoyed checking in with the staff too.   Most of them are good folks trying to make it through this world on their own.  I am hoping they will be okay through all of this.

I see tuners in thrift stores fairly often. I think that before the cord, and the strap, and just behind the pick, this is the most oft bought item by folks who want to try to learn guitar but never do. So it goes into the donation box.

Dave what have some of your best thrift scores been over the years? I love digging, and probably two thirds of my collection has come from thrift store/garage sale/dollar bins. I’ll often pass on records I really want at shows and shops because I know I’ll find it out there somewhere, some day. The thrill of the chase, I suppose.

^^

I have some of those clip-on tuners,  Snark and another brand. Also an old Boss TU-12H,  not the compact pedal format,  but about the size of 4-5 cell fones stacked up.  The little Korg is nice though, and cost less than a Beer.

thanks for the reminder, I wanted to pick up guitar strings on my way home but forgot. I will hit the independent local guy.

Just last week I found a rare Eminem 12" single of "Till I Collapse" on clear vinyl for a buck that I got $40 for 2 hours after I dropped it in the racks.

Back in my Humboldt County days I got a mono peeled butcher cover of the Beatles Yesterday and Today for 50 cents that I flipped for $400 when I opened my store.

A few years back, at the Goodwill around the corner, I found an early 1970s private press soundtrack that was made for one of the University Of Washington black service fraternities that featured original music from Manu Dibango (of "Soul Makossa" fame).  It had a cool graphic of the African continent on the cover, and was clearly worth a buck.  I was stunned to see it selling for over $1000 when I looked it up.  I think there were 300 made.  I hung it on my wall for $700, and sold it about two weeks later to some DJ from L.A.  I bought the staff at Goodwill a couple of extra large designer pizzas from Pagliacci.

It looks like they reissued it in 2013, and the value crashed on the originals, but here it is:

On second thought, I think I sold that soundtrack for 250-300.  I can't exactly recall.  I sell a lot of records.

got a tuning app on my phone

haven't bought a tuner since

^ Yes and Fender dot com has a tuner on their site.  A friend picked up the Guitar about 15 yrs. back and was using the Fone tuner,  then I gave her a 9V powered one which she liked much better.

Hope she is still playing !  Roxanne,  you don't have to turn on the iPhone tuner.

speaking of messing around...

korg has a free app kaossolator if you want to play around.

^ Thanks for the heads-up.  I actually have wanted one of those little Demon boxes since I saw Timmy Hoover rockin' one at ECZJ.

Some other Free (for now) synth apps from Moog and others:

I ordered a $9 tuner for my uke about a month ago.  It's still in China.  Maybe that's a good thing?

Remember :You can tune a piano but you can't pee on a tuna.
