Underwater Zone (diving and snorkeling)

Any divers on this board?

If so, quick question.  Anyone have recommendations on a simple waterproof camera that is good for about 30 meters down that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?  I have asked around, and the more regular divers all go on about cameras that are $1000 plus.  Otherwise, it's junk that is maybe good for snorkeling, but nothing more.

I saw a $200 GoPro and the price is right, but it was rated for only 10 meters down.  Any ideas for a simple reliable camera for a once a year casual type diver?   Thanks.

Is it safe for a once a year diver, such as yourself, to dive to a hundred feet?

I don't know - just asking.

You might be able to rent one

30 meters is the deepest I go and it doesn't feel much different than 20 meters except that you go through your air quicker meaning shorter dives.   I am usually with my brother and he has hundreds of dives in, so that gives me an added sense of confidence.

We are going to dive the WWII wrecks in Coron Bay in the Philippines in two weeks and the tops of the wrecks are down about 20 meters and some are in even more shallow water (with more corals):

Don't plan on going into the wrecks and I am fine with just looking at them from the outside.

Although I rent the BCD and regulator, I want to own a half decent waterproof camera.   I go the tropics about once a year and typically do a two tank dive sometime during the trip, but usually end up doing a lot more snorkeling, which can be just as good as diving in many places.  I travel with my own mask, snorkel, and fins and and having my own camera would be great for water sports in general.

Corona Bay?

Lol.

It's not just the camera you need.  Decent lighting is where a camera package adds up.  Look around some scuba boards.  There is usually some quality used gear to be had.

If you all had voted for Gary Johnson like myself, this wouldn't appear as "jibberish"!

And just FYI - Philippines: "They Shoot Druggies, Don't They?"

Yep.  Don't think I will be bringing the vape pen like I did last year for South America.

That's what I am trying to avoid.  I have checked out SCUBA websites and talked with divers and it tends to just get into serious gearhead talk.   And frankly, I don't want a bunch of extra crap to be fumbling with down there.  Just something simple that won't break the bank.

Next time go to Micronesia. for wreck diving and I hear the locals like to smoke pakalolo.
