Other than Thom, were any Zoners friends with Jerry?

Forums:

I always enjoy reading Thom's stories about hanging out with Jerry before and after shows - and there's even a thread on here where Thom was in his hotel room after a JGB show giving him setlist pointers. Surely he wouldn't lie about this.

Anyway, did anyone else here earn Jerry's friendship? Maybe smoke a bowl or a little Persian with him?

Jerry smoked the P alone most times, I'd venture to guess.

Meeting someone twice hardly makes them a friend, and I certainly never claimed that he was one.

But I did suggest that the Garcia Band play "Sweetheart Like You" that time in the hotel in Philadelphia in December of '83, and he said that he had actually been considering it.  I suspect that he was just being polite, but given his extraordinary taste in selecting cover songs it might have been true.

That would have been a great cover to hear him play.

Close enough to call it personally acquainted in my book,Thom.

At Laguna Seca in 87, mid 2nd set, I was really blazing.... Jerry smiled at me and I felt alot better.

Byren speaks with him daily.

I talked to him half a dozen times. Stood behind his rig as well as onstage over on the side with Harry at numerous shows.

worked the counter at the 711 near his house. Often He'd come in for a chili dog/slurpee, smokes and a pint of ben and jerry's

 exchanged pleasantries is about all

"That would have been a great cover to hear him play."

Absolutely, I dream of the lead break.  He would have crushed it.

"Close enough to call it personally acquainted in my book,Thom."

That's a close call (I'd say no), but "personally acquainted" doesn't equate to friendship.

"Jerry smiled at me and I felt alot better."

Those moments are closer to friendship than anything I ever got by seeing him a couple of times.

But I did suggest that the Garcia Band play "Sweetheart Like You" that time we went on a SCUBA diving trip to Hawaii<<<

Damn, you really do like to argue about anything.
