The Who have been so played out since before I was teenager. The radio market for rock was completely saturated where I grew up. It's a shame, but I find it hard to appreciate any of their songs. We had a couple of hard core fans back in the day on the old pz.
Worked a Roger Daltrey in a small venue and it was cool to see for certain. His voice was also blown out- which I believe is common knowledge.

They were definitely exciting
They were definitely exciting live in the '60s. So much energy, good songs, well done. I mean, John Entwistle, Keith Moon, Pete Townshend! That was then.
Saw them at Monterey Pop and at Fillmore West in '68 or '69. (As I've previously posted, Pete smashing his guitar was a little crazy for me at Monterey Pop, but that was the schtick.)

HahHahaaaa yep, exciting in the 60's, but I hope you didn't just quit then judit cuz they didn't even come into their own - as well as put out their best stuff - till the 70's. Then proceeded to kick balls in the 80,'s + 90's with John n Zak and right thru the 2000's with Zak + Pino. They're still putting out high quality music. Love them fucks.

First show I ever paid to see
First show I ever paid to see, $2 Central Park 1968, during the British Invasion up to Who's Next ( one of the great records ever) plus 1/2 of Who Are You? One of the finest bands ever. But I get what 4 winds is saying , I was off Zep for a long time even though I liked them due to radio playing Stairway ad nausea. Once Keith died they were over for me, saw a tour with Kenny Jones on drums , great drummer not Who worthy. That all said very good friends of mine saw them maybe 2 years ago and said they were great. As with all the bands from our younger yrs each night is hit or miss

I was the same for years.
The re-issued and re-engineered How the West Was Won album brought me back. Some raw, untethered LedZep on that one.

I'd been trying to see The Who since 1982, but always missed them for one reason or another until 2016 when I saw them twice (once at Desert Trip), then again last fall (3rd row no less). 2000 would've been the best post-Moon tour to catch, though.

A favorite band of my Dad's.
A favorite band of my Dad's.
He played Tommy quite a bit when I was a young lad. I didn't understand much of the plot line back then, but it's etched into my consciousness.
More recently, my Dad was really into John Entwistle's version of Cinnamon Girl. On a slightly related note, my uncle's name is John Entwisle, so I was naturally a big fan of the bass player.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62vQU2bjrnE
A year or two ago, I secured a $5 ticket from Stubhub to see Roger Daltry (to honor Dad) at The Fox, Oakland. The balcony was about 1/3 full. (He probably could've used Pete Townshend's help to sell a few more tix). Still, it was well worth the time and money.
I have to agree with you, 4winds. Though, I still like listening to Live at Leeds now and then. And I don't mind exposing my kiddo to the hits (for educational purposes).

Been playing the "Sell Out"
Been playing the "Sell Out" record a lot. Along with the underrated "Who By Numbers", a couple of their records loaded with lesser known gems.
Townshend has written a lot of memorable material. I enjoy his solo records and his "Scoop" collection of demos. As for their overplayed warhorses, every band has them.

Saw them for the first time
Saw them for the first time on their 50th anniversary tour. I was skeptical going in without the Ox and what not, but they did the songs justice and put on a good show. I sure hope I have Townshend's energy when I am that old.
>>>>>Been playing the "Sell Out" record a lot.
I almost picked up a copy of that at the vintage store the other day, but it was $20 and not in great shape.

That is some of the heaviest rock and roll ever recorded. Good stuff.
