An escape clause that allows them to severe a contract with a musician who may have substantially runoff with their mouth or acted in a way that was sufficiently unbecoming to cast a negative light on an upcoming event?
The Telluride Jazz Festival announced the "Beach Boys" as their headliner a few days ago; about two weeks after Brian Wilson had asked Mike Love and "The Beach Boys" to pull out of the their show at the Safari Club International Convention in Reno. Could the promoter TJF have severed their contract with "The Beach Boys" on some sort of ground associated with a moral objection / bad PR?

Brian Wilson has denounced an upcoming performance by the group currently touring as the Beach Boys, led by former bandmate Mike Love, at Reno, Nevada’s Safari Club International Convention. “This organization supports trophy hunting, which both [bandmate Al Jardine] and I are emphatically opposed to,” Wilson wrote. He then pointed toward a Change.org petition that calls to boycott the Beach Boys’ music until the performance is canceled. See his tweets below.

Does Telluride have a contract with Brian Wilson? If not, end of story. Unless you want this to drag on. And on. Which I'm guessing you probably do.
Mike Love has no control over what Brian says. But you probably have an argument for that.

Who claimed there was a contract that involved Brian or that he has any pertinent legal authority involving his cousin or the band name?
Are you saying there's no amount of vomit that Mike Love could project from his mouth (prior to an event) that could get him shown the door & his contract severed by a promoter?

FOM just so you know going around and saying that the Telluride Jazz Festival is a shill or "shadow PR group" for Brian Wilson is a good way to get a call from their team of attorneys. Not sure you want to go down this path.
But feel free

I'm fairly certain there is language in performance contracts about that sort of thing, as there is in professional athlete contracts and in most business contracts.
But I'm not getting the point here, did Telluride cancel the Beach Boys?
And damn, Mike Love's Beach Boys is the best that fest could do for a headliner?
That group is usually found at events like the York County Fair in York Nebraska.

No, they didn't cancel them, and I believe it's possible they opted to keep them on the bill in spite of the controversy. I guess the point of the thread was to do a little "research" to extend the benefit of the doubt if the promoter was truly in a contractual bind? Legally, I suppose this sort of thing can be left open to interpretation in terms of what speech or actions by a performer might constitute grounds for severing a contract? Dixie Chicks come to mind.
Having said that, personally I'm appalled re: trophy hunting & can't emphasize enough just how much I'm opposed supporting any public figure who might support Trump's apparent enabling of a foreign insurrection of our Republic!
Yeah, I looked at their tour page and you hit the nail on the head re: the general profile of the types of locales and venues where they perform. From a promoter's point of view, I can see how they might be desirable in so far as giant name recognition with potential for a big draw from the western slope at a very cheap cost.
The editor of the Telluride Daily Planet published the following "piece" with a picture that includes Brian and Al, yet no mention of the actual lineup due to visit:
