It's a send up of Don McLean's classic adapted to cover current events and the election. Everyone I sent it to raved about how good it is. Trust the Stranger.
the PBS frontline documentary "america's great divide" is a killer doc on this subject. its pretty long, between part 1 and part 2 it clocks in at almost 4 hours, but its incredibly worthwhile and looks at both our current political climate and how we arrived at it, starting with the obama administration, the tea party and sarah palin. its a full view with no concessions made or history glossed over. i particularly enjoyed the interview segments with steve bannon describing the trump campaign and white house from a perspective you rarely, if ever, hear - an insider, who supports trump and is firmly in the anti establishment camp. you often get one, or two of those perspectives from one person, but rarely all three.
also their doc "bitter rivals: iran and saudi arabia" is one of the best pieces on the political situation with the middle east and how the US truly fits into it. a must watch for anyone who wants to better understand the situation over there without pouring hours into reading old news articles and history books. id count this one along with adam curtis' "the power of nightmares" as the best and most informative documentaries on the political situation in the middle east an US/western foreign policy towards the middle east.
I always chuckle a bit when the "go to" excuse of the failed coup plotters is "saving democracy", as if by unseating a duly elected president & reversing the results of a free and fair election isn't what it seems...it's actually protecting our democracy. It's all a bit Orwellian, but obviously has an undeniable "through the looking glass" effect on huge swaths of the brainwashed masses. It begs the question, when Trump wins by an even larger landslide in November, what will be the false narrative this time? I'm sure there are people sitting in a room somewhere working on that very project, beta testing various culprits.
An anguished question from a Trump supporter: ‘Why do liberals think Trump supporters are stupid?’
The serious answer: Here’s what we really think about Trump supporters - the rich, the poor, the malignant and the innocently well-meaning, the ones who think and the ones who don't...
That when you saw a man who had owned a fraudulent University, intent on scamming poor people, you thought "Fine."
That when you saw a man who had made it his business practice to stiff his creditors, you said, "Okay."
That when you heard him proudly brag about his own history of sexual abuse, you said, "No problem."
That when he made up stories about seeing Muslim-Americans in the thousands cheering the destruction of the World Trade Center, you said, "Not an issue."
That when you saw him brag that he could shoot a man on Fifth Avenue and you wouldn't care, you chirped, "He sure knows me."
That when you heard him illustrate his own character by telling that cute story about the elderly guest bleeding on the floor at his country club, the story about how he turned his back and how it was all an imposition on him, you said, "That's cool!"
That when you saw him mock the disabled, you thought it was the funniest thing you ever saw.
That when you heard him brag that he doesn't read books, you said, "Well, who has time?"
That when the Central Park Five were compensated as innocent men convicted of a crime they didn't commit, and he angrily said that they should still be in prison, you said, "That makes sense."
That when you heard him tell his supporters to beat up protesters and that he would hire attorneys, you thought, "Yes!"
That when you heard him tell one rally to confiscate a man's coat before throwing him out into the freezing cold, you said, "What a great guy!"
That you have watched the parade of neo-Nazis and white supremacists with whom he curries favor, while refusing to condemn outright Nazis, and you have said, "Thumbs up!"
That you hear him unable to talk to foreign dignitaries without insulting their countries and demanding that they praise his electoral win, you said, "That's the way I want my President to be."
That you have watched him remove expertise from all layers of government in favor of people who make money off of eliminating protections in the industries they're supposed to be regulating and you have said, "What a genius!"
That you have heard him continue to profit from his businesses, in part by leveraging his position as President, to the point of overcharging the Secret Service for space in the properties he owns, and you have said, "That's smart!"
That you have heard him say that it was difficult to help Puerto Rico because it was in the middle of water and you have said, "That makes sense."
That you have seen him start fights with every country from Canada to New Zealand while praising Russia and quote, "falling in love" with the dictator of North Korea, and you have said, "That's statesmanship!"
That Trump separated children from their families and put them in cages, managed to lose track of 1500 kids, has opened a tent city incarceration camp in the desert in Texas - he explains that they’re just “animals” - and you say, “Well, OK then.”
That you have witnessed all the thousand and one other manifestations of corruption and low moral character and outright animalistic rudeness and contempt for you, the working American voter, and you still show up grinning and wearing your MAGA hats and threatening to beat up anybody who says otherwise.
What you don't get, Trump supporters in 2019, is that succumbing to frustration and thinking of you as stupid may be wrong and unhelpful, but it's also...hear me...charitable.
Because if you're NOT stupid, we must turn to other explanations, and most of them are less flattering.
Good evening Bucky the foul-mouthed, El Niño...beautiful copy & past, brilliant use of the mouse!
I think if some of you need to lean on the false narrative that by attempting to hijack democracy you're actually defending democracy in order to sleep at night and get through the day to day activities like looking in the mirror to shave, it's perhaps a necessary suspension of reality in order to make the transition to your "new normal" of having been caught robbing the liquor store, but eventually you may want to take a long weekend of reflection and give thought to what you consider an honorable telling of events. (((defenders of democracy)))
The point I've been making for weeks is something that hasn't been picked up yet in the media...but when the average voter gains a reasonable understanding of what just happened, basically a failed coup attempt, polls can't possibly measure the seismic impact on generations of the electorate, we live in the Information Age, people underestimate the possibility that this may be the end of the democrats, I realize that may be hard to believe, but in the "not too distant" future the untold truths of the coup d'état will be common knowledge.

Hey, just stop with your interpretations of what I think. You have no idea what I think. I posted a video for a fucking laugh, not to move a "needle". You should get a sense of humor.
>>>nothing is challenged or argued
That's because "discussions" with you are pointless with your delusional arguments and attempts to be pompous, as if you just know more than anyone here. But I'll take a minute to comment.
In my opinion, your premise in one of your posts above is totally off the wall. "Unseating a duly elected president & reversing the results of a free and fair election." Really?
The occupant wasn't being "unseated". He acted illegally and the House of Representatives honored our democracy and the intent of the constitution by voting to impeach and forward charges of violating his oath of office to uphold the constitution and also obstructing the investigation into same. Although he was not found guilty in the Senate, thinking people understand the "trial" was a sham, especially when witness testimony was blocked, and after it was over, many of those who voted against impeachment admitted he was guilty as charged. But in this hyper-partisan environment, Republicans chose party over country and totally ignored the sacrifice of countless veterans who gave their lives (think Normandy) to preserve a functioning democracy guided by our constitution.
As far as "reversing the results of a free and fair election", that is ludicrous. First, he lost the popular vote by 3 million citizens. Two, it's been shown the Russians interfered with the election and so it wasn't "free and fair". By the way, did you see the 60 Minutes piece last night about Deutsche Bank and the funneling of money to Russians for years by Jared Kushner and the relationship the occupant has with many Russians and that bank. Also, check out "Dark Towers" by David Enrich, and check this link https://www.npr.org/2020/02/18/806984703/dark-towers-is-a-cautionary-tal...
Lastly, we can't "reverse" three years worth of judicial appointments, including two Supreme Court justices, and the current effects of the other bonehead policies decisions and executive orders he's bestowed on the nation. We also can't get back the tax money we spend on his numerous golf outings that his properties benefit from that we pay for. A new president may be able to reverse some of these, but to say we're "reversing the results", at this point that is impossible. After three years, that horse is out of the barn and has shit all over the corral and the pasture.
Have a nice night, B. Chances are pretty nil I'll re-visit this with you. You have shown a propensity to ignore reality, and I just wasted enough time on this.
I'll give credit where credit is due...that's the longest original diatribe I've read in a long while, I respect you and your opinion, as misguided as both may be...you're a reasonably good person, I hope you live long enough to have some of your positions evolve.
Here's my hypothesis...I think the Information Age has us all a little off kilter as to the speed of certain news, the thought being is everyone is judging the current scam as unrecognizable for years...in the age of information it may be days, remember this prediction: once the American people understand what just happened, it may be the end of the democrats...you heard it here first.

Look out of any window
any morning, any evening, any day
Maybe the sun is shining
birds are winging or
rain is falling from a heavy sky -
What do you want me to do,
to do for you to see you through?
this is all a dream we dreamed
one afternoon long ago
Walk out of any doorway
feel your way, feel your way
like the day before
Maybe you'll find direction
around some corner
where it's been waiting to meet you -
What do you want me to do,
to watch for you while you're sleeping?
Well please don't be surprised
when you find me dreaming too
Look into any eyes
you find by you, you can see
clear through to another day
I know it's been seen before
through other eyes on other days
while going home --
What do you want me to do,
to do for you to see you through?
It's all a dream we dreamed
one afternoon long ago
Walk into splintered sunlight
Inch your way through dead dreams
to another land
Maybe you're tired and broken
Your tongue is twisted
with words half spoken
and thoughts unclear
What do you want me to do
to do for you to see you through
A a box of rain will ease the pain
and love will see you through
Just a box of rain -
wind and water -
Believe it if you need it,
if you don't just pass it on
Sun and shower -
Wind and rain -
in and out the window
like a moth before a flame
It's just a box of rain
I don't know who put it there
Believe it if you need it
or leave it if you dare
But it's just a box of rain
or a ribbon for your hair
Such a long long time to be gone
and a short time to be there
I think that was an old Rolling Stone magazine technique with the slightly different still shots, I'm pretty sure that's what I was going for...I thought it looked groovy.
Now that everything will be settled at the ballot box fair & square, you guys are cool with that right? Being defenders of democracy and all, that's what the main goal is right? Defending the sanctity of the vote? The peaceful transfer of power?
Open question for the group: What are your thoughts on the importance of the peaceful transfer of power in regards to the presidency? I'd be curious to know the thoughts of people so concerned with defending democracy as to the significance of the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to another...please and thank you! :)
So...you'd have a problem with an outgoing administration intentionally sabotaging an incoming administration, in theory...if that was ever proven to have happened, correct? You know, for the sake of democracy and all...right?
according to the link i posted above, he is not quite big enough to actually fuck himself, but his none-the-less impressive size allows for a very solid windmill.

I don't know who put it there
Believe it if you need it
or leave it if you dare
But it's just a box of rain
or a ribbon for your hair
Such a long long time to be gone
and a short time to be there

"Although he was not found guilty in the Senate, thinking people understand the "trial" was a sham"
Who are these "thinking people" of which you speak?

LLTD, that's a beautiful sentiment, thank you!

We can blame it all on the "shithole" states and the obsolete electoral college.
