Ft. Myers

Forums:

I might as well throw up the four winds bat signal (and anyone with good info)

so my twins have relocated to The Cape and Ft. Myers area, and now that my house price is skyrocketing, I am thinking about selling and relocating to the Southwest part of the state, for my slow decline into the insanity of old age. I have made a couple trips to check out areas I might want to move to but need more input.

i really like the old downtown water front area in Ft, Myers. Went to a Seafood fest there and really liked the small shopping and eating district.  A bit pricey though but on my list of places to be close to.

i really want to be on a canal and Cape Coral has some cheaper older homes on the water, but The Cape is a shithole, imo, nothing really there of anything resembling beauty. A hodgepodge of old houses next to new houses, thrown around the city like tumbling dice in a treeless environment. Who was the city planner here? They should be shot. But a boat, on the water, is really how I want to go out. I could boat over to the downtown Ft. Myers when I want so this shit hole really could be a possibility. Walking distance to downtown cape on the water would be my goal but a bit out of my price in that area at the moment.

not a big beach jones type of person, and Estero area looks pricey along with Bonita Springs.

Will be visiting more in the next few months, and considering all options, condos, homes, etc, may even spend some time renting and waiting for prices to drop too.

What else should I be looking at.

Alligators - Snakes - Rising Sea Levels - Seniors That Drive Bad

How about Sanibel Island?

Its close enough to Ft Myers that everything is accessible with a 15-20 min drive, yet its isolated enough to still retain that small town feel. Plenty of trees and a huge nature preserve. The locals have worked to curb uncontrolled commercial growth and development on the island, I believe they are not allowed to build anything taller than 3 stories high I think. There are homes on the island with canals. Might be worth a shot?

The seniors here drive fine it is everyone from North of Daytona that fucks things up on the road

ages ago I vacationed at Sanibel Island, never went back

too many smelly Europeans for me,even if a bunch are topless, forgive me but I am coming from the land of the Mouse, tourist are not my thing

and it's too pricey for what I want

but thanks for the input

Best o' luck.

Damn fine word smithing,  I am giving you a heads up that I am stealing your words.  Dig it.

marco island ......  sssshhhhhhhh

above all keep a close eye out for florida man

I am florida man

shhh might be too steep, but the back country waterways has me drooling. That is more geared to the skinny water I am used to fishing in my lil flats set up. Will hopefully have a second boat for farther out in the gulf but I love poling around the mangroves stalking trout reds and snook. Thanks for opening my eyes more to Naples in an indirect way frank3. Far enough to not be a baby sitter when that time comes and still close to visit.

Tampa St Pete is nice

What's up, Skyboy?

Yeah, they kind of revitalized that whole area.  It's nice.  However, you are farther away from all the beaches.

Also, I hate the cape except for one pizza place.  There are some nice homes, don't get me wrong, but way too many "trashy" people.

brb

We usually take weekend trips to downtown Tampa and St. Pete, love both areas but a bit too far away for what I am looking for.

Life is good 4winds, hope you are doing well

the only redeeming quality on the cape is you can get a home on a canal sometimes with a boat lift for less than $350,000 -$400,000. I can also do remodeling work and may take on a project instead of full time work, sell when I am done and repeat.

i really would not mind being home bass for a fleet of family boats and Jet skis that we could all use. My daughters are into that idea and would probably buy a couple of jet skis to add to the fleet, I have small flats boat and also would buy a center console boat too.

not big on beaches, other than taking walks, would rather boat to remote areas and chill

>>marco island ......  sssshhhhhhhh

lol, you're joking right?  People have been calling it mark-up island for years.

Okay, I went back and re-read the original post.  I wouldn't drop a dime in Cape Coral.
