I am an independent in a solidly "blue" state who usually votes green.   If Bloomberg is the dem nominee, I would probably vote green as usual, but only after carefully checking the data to make sure there is not a chance in hell that Trump will win Oregon.

That is one of the perks of having Bernie as the nominee.  He will bring in green and independent voters who would not otherwise vote for the Clintons and Mike Bloombergs of the world.

That being said, if Bloomberg ends up being the nominee, I promise:

1. Not to badmouth the dude; and 

2. Encourage everyone living in any state where there is a real contest to vote for the guy.

But Ken - if you prefer Bloomberg to Trump, even slightly, why not shoulder your share of the vote? Sure, others will keep Trump from winning Oregon, but why not do your part?

There will be hell to pay If the bernie bro minions get butt hurt and  rat fuck this thing again. It will be tough for them not to once all the Russian disinformation gets ratcheted up this summer.  The powers that be clearly see Bernie as their golden lamb because they know how tribal and divisive his followers can be. Because Bloomberg does not represent my personal values as much as the Green Party does.  Again, if it looks like there is any chance Trump will take Oregon (yeah, right) I will vote for the dude.  Otherwise, I will continue to do what I have done in nearly every election and vote Green, while encouraging all my brothers and sisters in swing states to vote for Mike.  I respect that there is a lot of true blue Democrats in this state to keep it "safe," and I will selfishly use that to vote my conscious. 

But if Bernie (or Warren) is the Dem nominee, I will readily join with all the labor unions, environmental and consumer protection advocates, and working class people of all races and creeds and happily vote for the Democrat nominee.

I think it's a 'fear' over overshooting the voters in the middle (who decide elections) with far left policies that are politically impractical at the time. I see a couple of things going on. First of all, I don't think that President Sanders would have a bipartisan coalition in Congress, and therefore wouldn't push things as far left as people seem to think he would. There's a fair chance that there would be such a pushback against him as a "Socialist" that he'd even get less accomplished than some of the others.

I also think that it's an issue of time and place. If Bernie was running against Rubio or Cruz, I'd be much more inclined to support him in this race. But alas, it's Trump! This nation is so fractured because of that guy, I think that we need someone who can just stabilize things and stop the bleeding. That isn't Bernie. Look what's going on on this little microcosm. People with very similar beliefs are at each other's throats.

In the end, there may be a couple of candidates who would be able to pull things to the left, and at the same time could start to pull the nation together. Maybe not. If that's the case, I may as well vote for Bernie.

Look, it's very true that Bernie currently has the broadest coalition. The big question is, will it be able to expand to the general population, especially in the general? None of us know. All we can do is make hypothesis.

I personally think that there are some rate limiting factors. First, the huddled masses are prone to a Red Scare frenzy. Second, although a few of Bernie's policies hold wide appeal, like M4A and student loan stuff, he also has policies that are less than popular in key areas, like banning fracking and coal policy. I don't know who has the best chance against Trump, but I don't think Bernie's is any better than anyone else's.

When looking at the platforms that all the candidates are trying to run their campaigns off of one could say they are mostly directly related to Bernie's 2016 run when he pushed those platforms and new dems saw success that he had with voters. That's where it's heading. Trying to stall it could backfire so at some point people may have to go with the flow or we will get stick with a guy like Buttigieg who really has no platforms at all. He's just regurgitating old corporate values that new voters and working class people have already made it clear they don't want.

Yes, this is going to sound like a broken record but look the point is if we continue with fracking and coal then the world which we live in is going to get worse and worse. This isn't as much about politics as it is about overall wellness for the earth and humanity. Everyone thinks they are untouchable until they get touched. The irony is that the coal industry itself knows that its time is waning. The population in those coal states is holding tight to the idea that it can and will expand. That's why Trump did so well in all those places.

How do we get the message across to all those people in the coal/oil/gas states, so that they buy in to it? I have no idea, but some of them make big coin and don't want to lose it, and most have been decimated and hold some false hope for a return of the golden age of fossil fuels. Bernie isn't strong in that demographic.
