Well this is terrible news:

>> California plant is one of only two in the world that manufactures lacquers, vital to the production of vinyl records.
The manufacturing and storage facility for Apollo Masters Corp. -- a Banning, Calif.-based manufacturing plant that supplies the lacquer used for making master discs, which are then used to create vinyl records -- has burned down in a massive fire, the company confirmed in a statement posted to its official website.

No you’re right this is
No you’re right this is probably being blown out of proportion as some earth-shattering blow but when 19% of last years NEW physical music sales was made up of reissues of Beatles lps and such, you better believe you’re gonna see yet another (consumer-level) spike in new unit pricing -which then will unfortunately affect those of us whose primary purchases are used material.
i.e. even that already overpriced but gorgeous 90s Tom Petty Wildflowers is gonna go up in price (again and again and etc.)
Shitty deal.

Ben Blackwell of @thirdmanrecords: “I think the fire will probably affect just about every North American pressing plant’s ability to master records...The extent to which they’ll be affected remains to be seen."
