Weird is good.
I saw some photos of the venue and where they're staying from friends who are there and it looks like a pretty sweet setup for a great big party.
There is at least one Vivaist at the shows, so it will be good to get some first-hand accounts of the revelry.

In the context of bands that have had all or most of the "four" I agree.
In my experience ("experience" being the key word in this type of deal) of The Other Ones, the various formations of The Dead and the Fare Thee Well band, Furthur & D&C have been the two most satisfying in the room for me, and I REALLY wasn't expecting that to be the case. I preferred Furthur but ultimately, and surprisingly, I think D$C is the better band. They don't always play good shows, but when they do they're real good.
Whoop it up down there woz, hope you see some good ones. Phil in the Little Room was rockin' & rollin' last night as well and I know you would have loved that one too.
Carry on.

I think the best post-GD
I think the best post-GD bands featuring core members are some (not all) of the lineups of Phil Lesh & Friends from 1999 - 2006.
I've tried to like Dead & Company. They have some good moments, but I find overall the music is too slow and boring to sustain my interest for an entire show.

Guess im not alone in my assessment of too slow tempos. Mayer's too fast, too many note jams, in juxtaposition with the slow tempo, makes it even harder for me to like them. Oteill doesn't come close to filling Phil's shoes either IMO. So aside from all the hoopla and lights what part of this band is better than other post Jerry ensembles?

Anyone? I would really like
Anyone? I would really like to understand what it is ( musically) about this group that could be considered better than The Q, The Dead, Ratdog, or even Furthur? I get the "expose more new folks to the music w Mayer" or "sell out bigger venues" or "make more money for the boys" debate, but musically, seriously? I think the average PnF show at TXR is light years above that generic fluff. I guess its kind of like the early years of GD vs the last few years. Definitely different. Music vs party. Just a few thoughts YMMV.

I tend to agree with you Mr.
I tend to agree with you Mr. SurJade. Strongest DeadCo. night is comparable to horrific GD 95 era but Mayer replaces Vince spot, not a lot of appeal there.
Still I will attend one DeadCo. outdoor shed event perhaps someday if it's really easy Ø};
For example I have the all-summer lawn pass for Camden. If they show up there I'll try to go.

I don't think anyone is
I don't think anyone is saying D$C is better than any of Phil's groups, or any other GD related band like JRAD or whatever. At least for me I'm just comparing them to the various formations of The Other Ones, The Dead, Furthur & Fare Thee Well.
Personally I liked Furthur better because to me their musical sensibilities were more aligned with the gentler '70s Grateful Dead approach, while D$C are more aligned with the '85 - '95 big, loud, heavy, more obvious stadium presentation. But to me Furthur felt more like a short-term project than an actual band, while for better or worse D$C feels like a group with a single cohesive vision, which is why I say D$C is the "better" band.
What has worked for me with the Co. is that (shockingly) to my ear Mayer learned and really embraced the flowing, conversational style of lead guitar in GD music much better than most other traditional rock or jazz guitarists have, and he & Chementi have really formed a musical connection; they often lock together and really "talk" to each other on stage. Then Otiel, who also has a quick ear and is very good at in the moment playing (as apposed to the great Alphonso Johnson for example, who IMO like many top quality players could never find their way in the open GD style) fits in with what Mayer & Chementi are doing.
And then Bob, who has been in a real good place since Fare Thee Well and has just a bit of experience & skill at musical conversation, gets right into the mix far more often than in the past when he would be killing cats on stage.
The drumming? At his age Billy isn't nearly the player he once was, but he still keeps up and he'll always have that one-of-a-kind stream of consciousness style, and Mickey doesn't WHAP away with mallets anymore, he just piddles along with those weird brushes and so he really isn't involved in the sound much at all. It's not great, but it's still Billy K. and he still does his thing well enough.
I've seen them 11 or 12 times, and generally it has been my experience that the 1st sets are often not particularly interesting, with some exceptions, but that when they dig in during the 2nd sets they can often find some really good musical spaces, and it has worked for me much more often than not. Including the 2nd night at Shoreline this past June, when I seem to remember seeing you treeflo in the box in front of me. I thought that whole 2nd set was really good.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a huge fan, I won't go out of my way or pay much if anything to see them, and if Phil is playing with just about anyone I'm there instead of D$C, I'm just saying that compared to the other bands mentioned at the top of this windy dissertation D$C is "better".
And I find it interesting that after 20+ years of Bob playing some of the songs at a slower tempo people still seem so surprised and carry on so much about it. He's been playing those songs at those tempos for over 20 years people, deal with it, or at least quit endlessly whining about it.
I think it's kind of funny that so many dead heads have such an impossible time dealing with that. I may be generalizing here, but traditionally most dead heads have embraced the idea that the Grateful Dead didn't do things the same way all the time, that they played in the moment and things weren't always exactly the same, but so many of those same folks rage on & on about how Weir doesn't play the songs at the "proper tempo".
I've dealt with the same issues because I too have my predetermined, preset ideas of the way it's "supposed to be", but to me it's a challenge to try and drop my expectations of what I want it to be or for it to be done the right way and just try to listen to what they're playing in that moment. That works sometimes better for me than other times, but I figure it's Bob's show and he has his reasons, and I've been really surprised how often I've found & enjoyed the slower groove the songs and players are in.
So there.

All I have to say to say is 1976 when Jerry played everything at half speed....it isn't easy to play slow and keep it that way, and meantime the band fills all the spaces. This band his vision and they stick to it. The Q peaked at Red Rocks in August of 2002, after that they've been dull as dishwater. I love Phil and he is great with Stu in the Grate Room, but that band can't do what these guys do.

I was there! Just that night
I was there! Just that night... my first D&C show. It wasn't my thing at all. I found the slow "letting the notes linger" thing to be really halting. I'm a little biased but I also found it way over crowded and not the awesome vibe it had at the other place. I was rocking innie but had I paid for that, not sure I'd be happy. That being said.. it was all smiling faces and people seemed to love it so who am I to judge. I will say the Dark Star>estimated>eyes was pretty ok and it had been a while since I got a good drums so it wasn't all bad.
