I don’t know why so many of my colleagues are reluctant to say in print or on the air what many of us saw in the room during today’s Iran speech. @realDonaldTrump appeared sedated. He slurred his speech and had trouble pronouncing words. He sniffed constantly. Why?
While it would be inappropriate to speculate about a diagnosis for these symptoms, it is equally problematic to simply ignore them. There is something physically wrong with this president and, especially given the circumstances of an escalation of tensions with a foreign adversary, the American public has a right to know about the physical health of the commander-in-chief.

Roosevelt ran for his fourth term in March 1944, Harry Truman, his vice presidential choice, voiced “[concern] about FDR’s unhealthy appearance.” However, Dr. Ross (an ear, nose, and throat specialist) announced to the nation that the president “was enjoying excellent health.”...
...On March 27, 1944, Dr. Bruenn found FDR to be cyanotic, breathless, with rales in his lungs, left ventricular enlargement, a booming aortic sound, a blowing apical systolic murmur, and a blood pressure of 186/108 mm Hg.2 His blood pressure, which had been at 188/105 on February 27, 1941, was not rechecked until 1944.3 He diagnosed hypertensive heart disease, congestive heart failure, and acute bronchitis. He prescribed digitalis, a low sodium and weight reduction diet, bed rest with up to 10 hours of sleep, curtailing his cigarette smoking, codeine for cough control, and general sedation.
A week later he was better and could lay flat in bed without dyspnea, but his blood pressure was still high at 210/110 mm Hg.1 One month later he had a bout of acute cholecystitis, and a cholecystogram done on May 26, 1944 showed a well-functioning gall bladder with cholesterol stones.
He won re-election in November 1944, and in January 1945, during his State of the Union speech to Congress, had a severe chest pain lasting 15 minutes. His EKG remained unchanged from previous ones, and there was no evidence of a myocardial infarction. Despite the high level of hypertension he went to Yalta in February of 1945 for the famous meeting with Churchill and Stalin. His blood pressure there was up to 260/150 mm Hg, and pulsus alternans was noted for the first time.
Eight weeks later while reading his mail, he had a sharp and severe pain in the back of his head. Within two minutes he collapsed and became unconscious due to a massive cerebral hemorrhage that would take his life two hours later. His blood pressure that morning was in excess of 300 mm Hg systolic and 190 mm Hg diastolic.

That could be it. Clearly, he was reading from a teleprompter and was probably working very hard to articulate everything properly. They say he doesn't like to read lengthy reports and prefers short, easy to read bullet point memos if anything.
A guy like Trump who was born into wealth probably never had to learn to read and write well to get by. He certainly is a very smart individual on certain levels considering how well he has done in entertainment and politics, but just from his Twitter posts, its obvious reading and writing is not one of his big strengths.

Good point that many people don't consider. In fact, he would probably be worse because Trump often gets in his own way. Also, Trump is only beholden to his own ego, while Pence is a true believer.

Pence would just be another run of the mill politician who I would disagree with on policy, but wouldn’t worry about turning our democracy into a kleptocracy. He wouldn’t accidentally get us into a major war, he wouldn’t say that California needs to rake the forest to stop wildfires, and he wouldn’t encourage racists with a constant wink and a nod.
Here is a question. If Trump is defeated in November do you think he will leave office voluntarily? Will he sit on that podium behind Sanders, Warren, or Bidden while they give their speech? That is the kind of question we would never be asking with Pence. A disagree with Pence on just about everything, but he is not unhinged. I wouldn’t wake up in the morning anymore and check my phone to see what fucked up Trump thing happened while I was asleep.
