I don't care what the reviews say.. it was a good story and end to the series. Damn critics want to tear it apart for this or that, but they did a good job pulling it all together and creating a great ending. Go see it!
Meh. I mean, everyone's entitled to their opinion, but uh, yeah, I wasn't impressed. My take on it is "I feel satisfied". It was a fan pleaser - cameos by everyone and their mother and their neighbor, common tropes, lines from movies past, so yeah, I feel satisfied.
But was it a GOOD movie? No, it certainly wasn't. The editing in the first half of the movie was really choppy, mostly because the script was so jumpy all over the place. It never really allowed any depth to any scene. They were all feel good, but most of the plot lines were just filler for the finale. It was cheesy, too. I know all Star Wars is essentially cheesy, but this one walked just past my line of acceptable cheese levels. The scenes with Leia were interesting, but ultimately you could tell that they had been chopped in and that the story line had been forced to wrap around those scenes, which just added to making it choppy. And with Carrie Fisher dead, it's unthinkable to me that they placed so much emphasis on her character for the final tale.
Did I enjoy myself? Yes. Did I go watch it on opening day with my wife and kids, like I have seen all the Star Wars movies with my family in the cinema? Yes, you're damn right I did. Do I want to go see it again to see the details I missed and to pay closer attention to the plot? Yes. Am I satisfied and have a stupid grin on my face and a tiny tear because this whole saga is done? You goddam right I do.
But was it a GOOD movie? Meh. So, so, cinematically speaking. 7/10. One thumb up. 3.5 stars. But that's just my take. Let me know when we can talk spoilers.
Javs, I agree the beginning was too frenetic but I was amused once it settled into the story.
I didn't read any reviews but my wife said they weren't good so I went in with low expectations and that probably helped quite a bit. There are plenty of little things I could (and likely will) pick apart but in the end I left more satisfied than the last two in this trilogy. If you think about it, that puts this movie out of the 9 probably at #4 on my list.
There was one cliff hanger too which I like that they left unresolved.

Just saw it. Thought is was good, but not great. Some really over the top moments, especially in the final half hour, that made you say "oh, come on."
And yeah, they did throw in a lot of cameos.

When can we talk about spoilers? I have a lot to bitch and praise about this last one.
