Technically never arrested, but, sitting in the Principal's office during a school dance I recall hearing Phil Collins 'Just One Night' or maybe it was 'Easy Lover'. All this after getting popped earlier that day on a field trip by Staten Island's finest sparking a bowl on the fantail of the Staten Island Ferry.
I have been arrested only once and that was for blocking the construction of a logging road into a de facto wilderness area (Cove-Mallard) deep in the mountains of central Idaho.
There was no music playing when we got arrested after locking our arms in barrels full of quick set concrete set up in the road, but back at base camp the night before the action while we were getting ready, there was a guy with a guitar singing that campfire classic "Don't Drop the Soap in Jail" over and over.
Never been arrested, nor made it to the Group W bench, but the question reminded me of some songs we sang during the Tim DeChristopher trial, including "Have You Been To Jail For Justice?".
Arrested (only time) for "blocking the sidewalk" in Portland during an anti-draft protest in 1970 during the Kent State/Cambodia demos in May at the end of my freshman and only year at Reed College. Roommates bailed me out. Pled guilty, got to give my anti-war speech in front of the judge. There was no music playing at the time - a few folks were singing "We shall overcome". For me, "Ohio", when it came out not too much later, became the theme song of the arrest and all that surrounded it for those few weeks.
I was stopped by two undercover North Carolina cops after smoking a bowl with a couple of friends just before going in to the 10-23-89 show. I can't remember what music was wafting through the lot. They charged us with a misdemeanor of possession of less than an ounce. I wasn't holding so I told them to search me right there. They told us to tell it to the judge and turned us loose into the show. I missed my only chance to see The California Earthquake, coming in during the Stranger that followed. They played a mid-set Bertha with it's "test me, test me, why don't you arrest me" lyrics, just like they had at a '88 MSG show I'd gotten shaken down by New Jersey State Police on the way to. I heard later they were busting lots of folks that night in Charlotte. Two 600 mile round trips later to "tell it to the judge", the state dropped it's case when the officers were unable to produce any evidence.
I don't remember what I was listening to on the night of my DUI but I do remember driving home from seeing Max Creek wearing a t-shirt I had made with a DMT molecule drawn on it. The cops were making fun of me.
my stereo was broken, leaving only the soliatry, haunting melody of me screaming;
"I DO NOT CONSENT TO A SEARCH! THE SMELL OF CANNABIS HAS BEEN DECIDED BY A SUPREME COURT DECISION TO NOT BE PROBABLE CAUSE FOR A SEARCH! I DO NOT CONSENT TO A SEARCH!"
into the cold, lonely night from the backseat of the squad car
