C'mon Jazz...surely you've had a moment of gratitude you'd like to share with the group, for the good of the cause. A moment you're truly grateful for, a moment that made jazz a more perfect jazz...for the good of the discussion. In the spirit of Thanksgiving!
Bluestnote did correctly call me out on my using the word adieu rather than adu, of which I am actually thankful, as I consider myself a wordsmith...that will actually allow me to improve upon my craft.
To the BGPers on this message board...you'll appreciate this story:
In regards to the God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman performance at the Warfield, I had a handful of rather odd stickers, they were historically notable images from the 19th century given to me by a gentleman I was stacked in the back of a truck with during my last ride of the adventure...from the Pearl Street Coffee House in Boulder. He was a true rainbow family warrior with an alabaster pipe he made himself that glowed orange as we crossed the Great Salt Basin...he styled me with the stickers in hopes that I could parlay them into entrance to the show. I offered the stickers up to the main ticket-checker, explaining that I had just successfully hitchhiked 2,500 miles +/-...he was of African American decent, and looked at me rather funny although I believe that he believed me, then he handed me a ticket that looked like a lunch ticket from elementary school in exchange for my stack of somewhat odd stickers, I then walked to the front door where the ticket taker tore my ticket in half and I was in! It was a very special evening!
I had left home with exactly $20 seven days prior.
If you go down round the bend in the river
You’re gonna find a few changes
Been going down there
‘Cause the people who live
Round the bend in the river
Have forgotten their dreams
And they’ve cut off their hair
Chorus:
And take a last, flying look
At the last lonely eagle
He’s soaring the length of the land
Shed a tear for the fate
Of the last lonely eagle
For you know that he never will land
If you go down where the lights
Push the nighttime
Back far enough so you can’t feel the fear
Remember the boy who you left on the mountain
Who’s sitting alone with the stars and his tears
Chorus:
If you go down to the gas-powered flatland
Where most of the people just think
That they’re free
Remember the peace that you had
On the mountain
Come back to the love that you had here with me
If you go down round the bend in the river
You’re gonna find a few changes
Been going down there
‘Cause the people who live
Round the bend in the river
Have forgotten their dreams
And they’ve cut off their hair
Chorus:
And take a last, flying look
At the last lonely eagle
He’s soaring the length of the land
Shed a tear for the fate
Of the last lonely eagle
For you know that he never will land
If you go down where the lights

I was in attendance, the last east coast Jerry Garcia Band show ever...1993, they say the best Shining Star ever, which is a little like saying the prettiest star ever, but I digress.
We should all be thankful that we were born on the exactly precise moment on the timeline of humanity at that perfect time to have Garcia's musicianship impact our lives...when you stop and think of the things you're thankful for, think of Jerry!
