I always stood by the notion that the vast majority of the idiocy are unsuspecting victims of operation mockingbird...but more and more I wonder if there's something spiritually wrong with you people, seriously, in theory, supporting Hillary Clinton knowing her dark nature and making peace with that a thousand ways...could that have possibly "turned" some of the unsuspecting Hillary supporters into terrible human beings?
The other thing I often remind myself of is this message board isn't necessarily an accurate "snapshot" of Phil Lesh aficionados, it's quite possible the group is disproportionately impacted by a lack of transcontinental touring.

It just seems like a lot of California kids kind of lazily waited on the band to come back, rather than took an "I'm at every Garcia performance" approach...which by the way is exactly what seemed to happen, I'm not just pulling that out of thin air, for what it's worth, so there's that.
Inevitably there were exceptions to that rule, but they were statistical anomalies, most of the California kids were all to willing to wait until the band came back around rather than venture on the road...tell me I'm wrong [I'm not].

I request permission to revise and extend my remarks...I often purposefully speak extemporaneously as to speak truthfully and purely, I think by doing so yesterday morning I may have struck the wrong tone. Obviously, or so I thought the "you people" was a [perhaps poorly executed] not so well received attempt at humor, I also painted with an overly broad brush as far as casting aspersions and judgment on people that voted for Hillary...the exact trap I should have known to avoid.
The point I failed to make is from an anthropological perspective, if one subscribes to the notion that there is a seemingly ongoing "degradation of society", then the unforeseen consequences of half the citizenry of a nation passionately rallying around a candidate who wore her neoconservative bloodlust on her sleeve as a sort of "cloak of identity" may in fact be a real and genuine danger.
That is not to say that I don't love each and every one of you without condition, we are all children of God and a small part of something genuinely special.
I couldn't in good conscious recommend anyone hitchhike in today's environment, but there was a time that it was a unique way to gain an understanding of this country, I'm grateful and fortunate to have lived to tell the tale. It did provide a unique perspective of this nation, both in the sense of its people and the majesty of the landscape.
I read an article recently posted here about the surprise show in Athens and Pigpen asking the journalist whether or not it was cool to hitchhike in the area, the journalist asked Pigpen [paraphrasing] "You're a successful musician, why do you need to hitchhike?", Pigpen replied something to the effect of [paraphrasing] "I like to meet people and explore the territory".
The 2nd coup attempt is unraveling as we speak in real time, but that's another tale...I do care very much about the people on this message board, our scene, and the republic, please know that I care for each of you and wish you the absolute best, perhaps our back and forth was not in vain.
