Respect to all, I'd like to keep this thread civil and will respectfully ask others to focus on the subject at hand sans personal attacks, for the good of the cause, a civil exchange of thoughts and ideas might benefit our collective understanding...I realize that's a lofty goal, but I'll do my best to stick to those terms.
I feel like this is a hyper-fluid scenario, but I sense today was a tipping point in the process, something is happening in the zeitgeist, I feel like there's a point at which logic will prevail...this thing is as over as the first failed coup attempt [the Russia scam]. At the end of the day we're asking people to somehow interpret a phone call that has been published in a transcript, in order to possibly overturn the will of the people in a prior election, that is simply not going to happen.
It reminds me of the scenario where the dog chases the car...it has no idea what would happen if it were ever successful, if this endeavor to unseat a duly elected president on a complete scam were ever to succeed [it won't], you wouldn't recognize this republic moving forward.
At some point history will have it's say...in a "whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger" sense, I think ultimately the 2020 election has just been decided.
All the very best, keep on keepin' on, don't take any wooden nickels, keep on the sunny side!

Another annoying delusional
Another annoying delusional thread by you, that I usually stay away from, but you make this too easy. I'll take a stab at your faulty premise, and then leave as your arguments are nonsensical and I'm not going to waste too much time on this. There's no convincing you of anything different than what you want to believe and your theories are off the charts.
The transcript is NOT a transcript, but a summary of the call composed by the cronies of the person who broke the law by making the call. In fact, testimony today indicated an NSC staff member unsuccessfully attempted to have that transcript amended to more properly reflect the conversation.
Nobody' s looking to overturn "the will of the people in a prior election". First off, the "will of the people" was the other candidate, by a few million votes.
Second, the horse is out of the barn on that as we're almost 3 years into a 4 year term. So this supposed purpose of the investigations is ridiculous
And it's not a coup, just an effort to uphold the constitution and the separation of powers. There was credible evidence the President broke the law and Congress is attempting to do it's constitutional duty to investigate and prosecute if necessary. First private investigations by committees, and then public hearings for all to see. They would be derelict in their duties if they didn't.
It's amazing to see people not concerned about a President brokering our foreign policy (and domestic for that matter) for personal gain, when a blow job in a closet of the Oval Office and the subsequent untruthful denials and perjury warranted an impeachment trial. And to submit an opinion "the 2020 election has just been decided" 12 months before the event is downright strange.
That said, personally, I hope the current occupant is the candidate in 2020 as I think the Democratic candidate will have a better chance if he is.
Take care.

Not in a bad mood, just some objective reality
An overwhelming majority of independents (81%) continue to “lean” toward either the Republican Party or the Democratic Party. Among the public overall, 17% are Democratic-leaning independents, while 13% lean toward the Republican Party. Just 7% of Americans decline to lean toward a party, a share that has changed little in recent years. This is a long-standing dynamic that has been the subject of past analyses, both by Pew Research Center and others.
https://www.people-press.org/2019/03/14/political-independents-who-they-...
Conservatives and conservative leaning independents still outnumber liberals and liberal leaning independents.
Americans' assessment of their political ideology was unchanged in 2018 compared with the year prior when 35% on average described themselves as conservative, 35% as moderate and 26% as liberal. Although conservatives continue to outnumber liberals, the gap in conservatives' favor has narrowed from 19 percentage points in Gallup's 1992 baseline measurement to nine points each of the past two years.

Funny how someone would ask for a respectful and civil discussion, yet the thread title is ridiculously disrespectful. Considering that 99.9% of thinking-people would laugh at the notion that a coup is taking place, I feel that calling it a coup is a very disrespectful stance towards those who think differently. Maybe just referring to the current situation rather than calling it a coup would show the space in which there could potentially be respect for others' ideas.
And then first at 9:43 Bryen calls for a respectful and civil discussion. At 12:52 he refuses to read someone's reply to his thread. By 12:57 he's calling others' ideas 'malarkey'. Basically, Bryen, you're a stupid asshole who is incapable of critical thinking or evaluating evidence. It's clear that your paranoia and mental health issues have you really invested in some heavy duty conspiratorial thinking and that without major therapeutic intervention you'll never get out of that headspace. I think the comment about the temp after Obama was that it was kind of obvious there was going to be a massive populist backlash against the first black president from a significant part of the population. Had the democratic party taken the temp accurately, they would have realized that there was a populist fervour happening at the moment and that voters weren't going to be easily persuaded by a run of the mill corporate candidate, much less a woman. The dems should have run either an old white male or somebody who could rile up the populist feeling. Bernie met both those criteria, Hillary neither. I'm not being sexist - I have no issue with women or men or black or white or straight or whatever as a politician. I'm just saying that it was kind of obvious that a corporatist woman dem was obviously not going to win.

If you say it's anything but a coup attempt often enough, maybe you can convince yourself...but you're in an increasingly shrinking minority. I'm sure there will always be pockets of coup deniers that will reassure each other the history they just witnessed didn't actually happen. If Schiff is still free to walk the streets perhaps he could give the keynote address at your annual convention.
I hope I'm not disrupting your safe space, I realize some of you may be traumatized by an upheaval of your spoon-fed narrative of choice...Rachael Maddow will be on television this evening at 9:00 pm, she'll read you a bedtime story and make it all feel better.
We're all witnesses to history, believe whatever you'd like, it doesn't bother me personally, I'm sure the most outspokenly delusional voices on this board have redeemable qualities, so there's no animus on this side of the fence, the 2nd coup will fail as miserably as the first, which will set up a landslide reelection in 2020, feel free to attack the messenger, but perhaps you may want to take note that I'm correct.
Enjoy the day!

A coup d'état, also known by
A coup d'état, also known by its German name putsch, or simply as a coup, is the overthrow of an existing government by non-democratic means; typically, it is an illegal, unconstitutional seizure of power by a dictator, the military, or a political faction
so it's none of those things.
keep supporting the kremlin though.

What do people think that President Sanders would do, snap his fingers and make everything better?
I think that there'd be such a big pushback to his "Socialism" that he'd get fewer progressive initiatives passed than most of the others would. Ironic, sure, but probably true.

I also don't see all of "the people" in middle America, the ones who are under-educated, or God fearing, or working stiffs, all those people who live in red counties and states, voting Progressive. It would be in their best interest, but they don't know that.

No, nobody who is running represents exactly what I think, but that's OK. Nobody cares what I think. That's not what an election is - it's a job interview. The idea is not to let the world know who your ideal candidate is, but to decide which of the available options has a chance to win and will do the least damage.

bernie beats trump b/c some
bernie beats trump b/c some of his strongest support is in the rust belt. the red states.
he's the most electable and the only candidate that can beat trump.
this is realistic, jonas. sorry you dont understand that.
making up the false narrative that people will feel they're getting their lives ripped apart by the fed is absurd and a republican talking point. evil radical left? have you been reading too many trump tweets? lol.
m4a is what the country needs and wants.
btw bernie is surging and the msm blackout continues.

No, I have been watching the political ads.
You can label it absurd, but this is just the beginning.

Yeah, and 75% of that 73% won't get off their assets to vote. A whole chunk of them who do vote, and say they support Bernie, will vote for Trump in the general.
It would be great if Bernie can mobilize that demo to vote. When push comes to shove, I don't see it happening.

Polling data from 2016 showed
Polling data from 2016 showed that weird disparity, in that although Hillary "should have" won by a landslide of the popular vote, she didn't. Although people wouldn't admit it ahead of time, they ended up voting for Trump.
Less than 50% of registered voters under 30 showed last time. 37% of them voted Trump.
Any Dem will have to pull out over 62% to win. I think that if they hit that #, it's a slam dunk. I just don't see Bernie doing it in the same way Obama did. I do t see any of them doing it.
