My home was flooded as a result of Superstorm Sandy.

We were displaced for 1.5 years, but have now been home for over 5 years. One might think that we have moved on, put it all behind us... I was hoping so.

Yesterday my son texted me that he was having a panic attack, he needed to come home. I took the day off and went to pick him up at school.  He was vague,  talking about stress, worry, and feeling overwhelmed. He asked if we could go for a drive, which we did. What was strange is that he wanted to see the places we lived while we were displaced.  I am thinking this is a bit of PTSD.  I am not surprised, have been expecting something like this.

On a another note, stay safe Cal. Zoners. Scary stuff out there.

PTSD will linger. You'll have that.  It doesn't really go away and can be hard dealing with when triggered by some stress.

Damn....time flies....seems like it was more recent than that.

My son called me last night, told me we were at a show together 6 years ago to the day etc, and again, it just blew me away....time seems to move faster as we get older??

Prayers for your son, T, i cant imagine experiencjng that as a young kid.

Absolutely stress lingers. Good job dad, being there for him. You are his best medicine, counselor, relief valve.

This makes me the angry, sad, frustrated, depressed...

My kids had their childhood, their innocence,  their sense of security taken from them.

I feel useless.

You are the opposite of what you feel. It shows in your comment.

my n. cal friend has it from 2 years of near misses burning his place down. he stayed behind 2 yrs ago in mandatory evacs and saved his as well as his neighbors homes. fucked him up.

Thanks,  Jaz.

Turtle, evacuating ahead of the storm was one of my better decisions. I had friends who stuck around and it wasn't safe. Can't stop the ocean.
