What is a parent’s job?

Forums:

These people are scum and horrible parents

I'm glad they're terrified

One of the parents primary assignment after safety is teaching them ethics and values and morals anf LOVE and to be a good human beings

It really is a sad commentary on society today

And yes in spite of outward appearances or others perception (zoners?)

I think I've done a pretty good job with five kids It's a LOT of work but worth every second

Helicopter parents are the worst and pushing their kids so hard is sad

Where I live in the bay area it is especially egregious

But cheating is the absolute worst

https://apple.news/Arl4YHUCMS-mf0tsTF463zA

I clean pools while our son is at school. My wife works admin.

Plead not guilty cause your rich about to feel the weight of some MassHole law enforcement officials piling on the new charges by the day lol

Slacker. Do you have a point or commentary on this topic?

You don't have to have a point to have a point.

I'm here for whatever lessons you are offering to teach.

I am suggesting

that teaching your children values

and responsibility, accountability and the right way to do things Is one of our primary jobs as parents

Teaching them to cheat and to steal and entitlement

It's not a good look

Having children take multiple SAT pre exams and workshops and EXTRA classes all the fucking time It's not a good look in my book

Loving them and supporting them is

role model

>>>You don't have to have a point to have a point.

I'm pretty sure this list is deep in the pointless forest.

We're knocking it out of the park.

what, cal state not good enough?

usc is like the biggest douche factory on the west coast.

Cal state and UC are good enough for my 2 kids currently in college -  lucky all around ( lot'$$ of freaking dough tho...)

always hated USC - no change there

My wife and I both went to LBCC.

is that where you met?

i met my wife at daycare.....

I met my wife in high school.

i met my ex at shoreline...

>>>Harry Nilsson ref, El Nino.

Yes it used to be part of the psychedelic movie night rotation

<< a sad commentary on society today >>

Absolutely, but totally par for the course. Just look at the daily despicable display of the fucking republican party. To cheat at ludicrous speed and not get caught is their entire modus operandi. These scumbag parents are just following our leaders lead.

I wonder how much Fred paid U Penn to get simple donnie thru in 4 years. In the millions I'm sure.

When I was young and they packed me off to school
And taught me how not to play the game
I didn't mind if they groomed me for success
Or if they said that I was just a fool

<< My wife and I both went to LBCC -- I clean pools >>

Wow that education was a worthwhile investment eh ?

Fuck ya major in, basket weaving ?

Jesus Christ man grow a backbone. A CC is where you go nights trying to better yourself while cleaning pools during the day. You should always look to better your situation man, unless if you're complacent. Who TF is your life advisor ? Cuz they suck

You sound like Don Jr.

Some people can't afford or have access to traditional 4yr box schools. In fact, you save $ and get a better fundamental education at many cc's, especially in ca. Then you can transfer as a JR and get to the meat of your major.

Not everyone needs to go to college or get a degree to be successful, so stuff the condescending attitude.

^ poor fella. First you babble political misinformation, now you defend complacency.  Calif schools teach you all that ?  Damm your teachers should all be fired.

Hahaaa Looks like we've found slacksters life coach.

FYI - furthering one's education (degree, certificate, trade) is always possible no matter your financial situation and always 100% a positive thing.

Life -- you're return on investment is proportional to what you put in.

You plant ice, yer gonna harvest wind.

Sock

i met my wife at daycare.....

im surprised her parents signed off on the marriage

Was waiting : hoping for that response longballs

lol

Who taught 'em how to jump over fences to avoid buying a ticket?

>>>You should always look to better your situation man<<<

Clear sign of a latent inferiority complex (a basic human condition in all of us IMO). What's the matter Ras, you don't think you're good enough as you are?

And man, I've met a lot of ex's at Shoreline over the years.

Two year technical colleges have specialized programs that can make serious bank.

I did not teach them, to climb fences,  Teacher, --wtf just because I said you were wrong at times..... (I am sure you are kidding?)

Besides, I usually just walk in - I haven't climbed a fence since the 70s - and that is all I am aware that I "steal "

I do hope that I have taught them well. I know that I am far from perfect - but I hope that I am far further from scum.

Is Ticketmaster ethical? are they good citizens?   Are concerts priced appropriately?, are the fees "fair"   you are part of that industrial military complex?  yes, I do miss Bill Ghrahm, and I do love you too

hope to see you soon

Well, at least Raz wasn't being a judgemental dick about it.

>>>you are part of that industrial military complex?<<<

I'm no part of that bub. I said NO to them when they held their hand out to me. I stayed a Mustang when I had a choice.

And of course I was kidding.

Ethical? Good citizens? When are corporations ever "good citizens"? That's not their job. To their investors sure, and maybe my pension I'm about to take advantage of/I've earned is profiting from that, so what do I know? Moneymoneymoney man.

I do think concerts are priced appropriately, because they're priced at the going rate. If someone is going to pay $500.00 for 102 BBB then the promoter and the talent should get that money. If no one pays that then prices will go down. Find cheaper talent, pay the big-league talent or jump a fence.

And don't mind me. Teachers always blame the parents.

You done good.

Carry on.

<< at least ras wasn't being a dick >>

More zoners than me have offered slack much more rude  suggestions on not just being satisfied with a menial job. Might want to try investing a few hours trying for something better instead of wasting buko hours here displaying his idiocy.  Of course them other zoners are more refined in their suggestions than me.  Sorry if my delivery wasn't up to your standards.

Carry on

<< Ras, you don't think you're good enough as you are? >>

Fuck man, I'm retired after a 30 year career in mainframe / network support for some heavy hitters. Own a house and nice cars. Collect nice change from a great pension with SS right around the corner. Did all this after getting off my stoned ass, after deciding framing homes in the winter wasn't for me, and put myself thru school.  No parental help involved. If I can do it anyone can. Taught my kids the same lessons, and they're also well on their way,  this thread is about parenting isn't it ? If course my example won't work for everybody. You need to have the will to be, dare I say , successful, not everyone does.

But to answer your question, no , I'm never satisfied. That's why daily I go to local senior centers and some afternoons to teen centers just to rap and shed a bit of light, smiles and inspiration with folks who may need it.

WTF y'all do to help spread the light ?

I think you're a sock. I don't believe your story.

^ which part, that you're an idiot ?

Sock ? That's all you have to say ? Holy fuck you're a child slacker, but I'm sure I ain't the first to tell you that. Think you know sumthin, you don't know nuthin, and you sure can't be told, therefore I'll leave ya be.

You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

>>> I think you're a sock. I don't believe your story <<<

(((( plausible deniability ))))

Sock.

Yesterday on the way to see my nephews son Drew play in a HS soccer game I passed thru Torrington, a Ct city with all kinds of crime and addiction issues. I ended up stopped at a traffic light and on the corner was a half dozen youngbloods sitting on the steps of the local teen center. I yelled out ' whats happening people' which got a response of 'fuck off'. Of course I pulled into the lot and walked over to them and introduced myself asking how they were doing and why the FU. The best answer I got was 'you look like five oh', which I do. To look at me you'd never have a clue what's inside, I keep the hair short, the look well groomed no visible tattoos - to each their own. I sat down and told em don't judge a book, and explained a bit of my struggles at their age, confirming that things do get better, you just have to believe and make it happen. Hung out for about 20 mins talking and by the time I left, I had a bunch of new friends. This is the kind of shit I do in my retirement. Made it for the 2nd period of a 5-0 Northwestern victory over Terryville, my man Drew didn't score . Life is good, and you can always make a positive difference in someone's, just gotta do it. Don't believe me hahaaaa I couldn't care less, but if you care to share a day with me I'll gladly pick you up at the airport or train station.

Some are immune to help but still, be the positive you'd like to see in others.

>which got a response of 'fuck off'<

bet ya get that a lot.

oh and seriously, fuck you asshole. you don't know shit about me nor anyone else here.

That's middle class Joe's Cornpop story.

I live in California. My struggles are regulatory.

< fuck you asshole >

Must be some of that new fangled Quantum Positive Enforcement they're teaching in California these days

that's east coast for have a nice day.

Slacker, I changed careers at 47. Circumstances made my wife and both change careers about the same time. We also have/had many priorities,  just dug in and things worked out. There are always options.

<I yelled out ' whats happening people' which got a response of 'fuck off'. Of course I pulled into the lot and walked over to them and introduced myself>

This easily could've ended badly for you.

>>>>>Slacker, I changed careers at 47.

The thread is about parenting.

I'm contemplating raising the rent on my apartment in June. It has been 3 years, and in that time taxes have gone up by 33% and flood insurance by  27%. My tenants get free food from the garden and I give them free bud.

Does raising the rent bt $25 make me a bad guy?

>> The thread is about parenting. <<

I think you're being parented.

By greedy conservatives.

<< east coast for have a nice day >>

I can dig it. Feel better now after your morning coffee ? Good.  I can guess you're around my age, therefore you know its all about the youth. Besides my jabs at you about the bail out, my comments were directed to the slackmeister - who I can guess is about 1/3rd our age, therefore still impressionable. Us, hahaa not so much. And if I've learned anything as a parent, its that sometimes the young need a bit of prying before they'll act. Just a bit of a nudge before they'll bust their move. I had a thought that the slack attack might be that kind of youngster and would react with a 'thanks for giving a fuck', like the kids I met yesterday.  I was wrong. I shouldn't give a fuck at all,  but after his insistence in telling this place on a daily basis that he cleans pools for a living -- is that not a plea for help ? Just tryin to do my civic duty,  no disrespect intended, well maybe a bit.

People like you plea for my help. I don't own a pool. I'm not working for free.

I'm a parent scooping up some of the middle class trickle down.

Are you teaching your kids that the American Dream is dead?

Oh, and nobody begs for your help, Slack. You have chosen a profession that is a luxury. If someone can't clean their own pool, or if they can't afford you, they can just drain the pool altogether, no harm, no foul.

It's your choice to eat the table scraps of the middle class.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong by working but you guys think that's bad parenting.

>> By greedy conservatives.  <<

Is anyone that makes more money than you greedy and/or conservative?

If they think it makes them better parents, yes.

>My struggles are regulatory <

How so?

I think teaching kids to be Dodgers fans is bad parenting.

Slack has a persecution complex.

Teaching your children to register as a democrat or republican is terrible parenting.

>> If they think it makes them better parents, yes. <<

I think I see your point. You feel your income is not a variable when self-assessing your parenting.

For example, you probably could make a lot more money working on fishing boat in Alaska or on an oil platform in the Gulf, but wouldn't be there at home parenting. But, if you could make more money with equal time with your kid(s), wouldn't that provide more opportunities for your kids (prep testing, tutors, camps, college tuition, etc)?

Of course, maybe you're happier cleaning pools, which in turn makes you a happier/better parent. You seem mostly content.

I'd be happier working on a golf course for the same money, but free golf. The applications go out.

Meanwhile, I bellow about other people's working class plight on a dbmb.

I bet you can achieve that goal. Maybe drive the range ball rig to get the abuse you seem to thrive on. #happier

i'm just shy of 50 raz.

i just act older and grumpier.

>>>> to get the abuse you seem to thrive on

I don't know who you think is abusing me.

Sometimes it's fun "acting" grumpier

>>> go mustangs, all five donned  the green<<<
Oh my reference to the military industrial complex was about the concert industry that you participated in

(we all are close to it)  I thought it was a barb, and yes it is a business

And prices are set by supply and demand and greed

And I do admit to being pleased when someone lets me into the show for free, or I let myself in

carry on

Just try  be the best parents you can be. Being condescending or a bit the victim will not prevent you from being a good parent

And helping others is awesome admirable and good role modeling

Just bragging about it is not Necessarily a good look

Anyone can change their situation at anytime > imagination Desire fortitude and hard work

I'm glad I have this thread because I'm not allowing myself to comment on politics today

how come we don't round up euros and others who overstay their student visas?

Because Raz likes them and what they bring to this country.

He doesn't like what freeloading workers bring.

Look at those awful parents.

A sock that fits

>>> my reference to the military industrial complex was about the concert industry that you participated in<<<

Well yeah, I got that.

But I began participating in it when we were still "the good guys" and by looking out for all of you fools the best I could (and that was A LOT of looking out, ya'll don't know how much).

When it all started turning rotten and they reached out and asked me to assimilate to the Borg I turned them down, despite that being what I'd been working toward for over 20 years.

And despite all whining to the contrary, greed has very little to do with ticket prices. It has to do with what something is worth.

If a front row seat is worth $500 dollars, then the talent and the promoter who's putting that talent on stage should get that money, because SOMEBODY is going to get that money, even if the "cool" talent only charges $25.

Why is that so hard for so many to understand?

The greed is in all the "up-sells" and other crap that the corporations come up with and tell us it's for OUR good.

That's a whole other story, but none of that has anything to do with ticket prices.

Or parenting either, for that matter.

Or maybe it does; not being so self-involved, thinking we know everything about things we really don't know much about and forcing our kids into those empty spaces, rather than allowing/helping our children be the best people they can be instead of who we think they should be.

I know that's easier to say than it is to do.

But that's still a parent's job.

You chose a good career dude

I get the money stuff (I think) and I was gonna include the bands next to my greed comment

and the reseller industry is waaaaay f'ed  up

And we can agree to disagree.
And yes I' agree that all that VIP shit / well I allow it to push my buttons

carry on

And don't force you kids into those empty spaces

let the music flow

carry higher

I don't think we disagree that the reseller industry is waaaaay f'ed  up, but that's business isn't it?

As for charging the going rate for tickets, let's bring it closer to home. If you own a house that's worth 2,000,000 and you sell it at 500,000 just because that's what it SHOULD cost or what it cost 25 years ago, well I bet you wouldn't do that. And you know that whoever buys it at 500,000 is for sure going to turn around and sell it at 2,000,000, as well they should because that's what it's worth. But it's your house, shouldn't you get that 2,000,000?

We all sell what we're worth for the going rate, as we should.

The key is to be worth something.

I am convinced that Ticketmaster pretends that their systems are overloaded

and that they  vary (manipulate) the i prices for specific tickets in real-time

and even if you get tickets you want in "your" cart for high demand tickets

they mysteriously disappear when one tries to pay

and one frantically tries to secure tickets agaiin

presales are complete BS

And One row back is $200 less than the row in Front,  but disappear from your cart

and then are not available

while resale tickets are being scalped on their site simultaneously

i call hanky panky/ collusion

they manipulate the customer  and could afford WAY More ROBUST infrastructure (and dead $ co are just a cover band in the end)

This is all beside the point

and I submit that your house sale argument is Ludicrous and irrelevant

this dialogue / diatribe has nothing to do with being a good parent

But I wouldn't be proud if my kids ran a business like that

Yes I believe in capitalism, a crook is a crook and a crock of s--t

unethical monopolist a holes (hence: Industrial military complex)!

and we all play along

How much is the house of dead$co worth?

the going rate.....,

monipoly

and Monopoly money

yes I was a fool to try...

so therefore a bad parent....

We dont really want to, but in a nutshell slack, its you revealing your life story to the list daily that causes us to have concern for you. To try and help or in some eyes, abuse you. And don't try skirting the issue,  you feed on it. If a dozen members joined the list a week ago they'd have no idea what most members do for a living, if they have kids, living quarters etc etc. But 10 out of those 12 would be able to tell what you do, kids, quarters etc etc. You prefer to have your life an open book here. Therefore you really should be more open to the suggestions you receive, and be happy that zoners give a fuck enough to care for you.

You often complain that in your current situation you'll never be able to afford a house, blaming the state for your inability or some horse shit. Believing that is one sure way of making sure it'll never happen. You gotta believe something can happen before it will. You mention your young son, that's fucking awesome. But if you truly want that house to raise your boy in, with a bit of sacrificing, you can make that happen captn, and you don't have to be a conservative weirdo to accomplish this.  Nobody here pisses on you man, we're all actually trying to help - if you look at it right.

I could make suggestions but I don't want to look arrogant or uppity, as some presume me to be, but if you want a better piece of the pie its all in your hands. I washed dishes at night while putting myself thru trade school during the day. Did I like it ? Yep. Cuz I knew the end justifies the means. Hardships can be a joy, especially knowing they're temporary.

Don't want our help, don't reveal all you dig.

I am a man who looks after the pigs, usually I get along ok

I am a man who reveals all he digs, should be more careful what I say

Back to the OP, it looks like Felicity Huffman got three days shaved off her terrifying 14-day jail sentence:

A cut and paste life coach clip to follow

If you keep doing what you're doing, you'll keep getting what you're getting.

You know that already, right?

Because it's common sense, right? Perhaps...

Yet, so many of us don't listen to our own better judgment. In fact, oftentimes the biggest difference between those of us who are making positive changes in our lives and those of us who aren't is not one’s superior abilities, but the courage that one has to take consistent action.

In other words, some of us sit and wait for the magic beans to arrive while the rest of us just get up and get to work.

Challenge yourself to be in the latter group, starting today! End this week with some healthy perspective, and let your perspective carry you in the right direction from the get-go next week, one positive step at a time...

Choose any area in your life that you want to improve, and then:

1. Write down the specific details about your current circumstances. (What’s bothering you? What’s wrong? What do you want to change?)

2. Write down your answer to this question: What are the daily rituals that have contributed to your current circumstances? (Be honest with yourself. What are you doing that contributes to the situation you’re in?)

3. Write down the specific details about your ideal circumstances. (What would make you happy? What does your ideal situation look like?)

4. Write down your answer to this question: What are the daily rituals that will get you from where you are to where you want to be? (Think about it. What small, daily steps will help you move forward?).

Remember I'm literally thinking that one day I would open the door and there would be a pot of gold sitting there being fed by a rainbow

It was definitely a good call

1. I clean pools

2. I clean pools

4. I clean pools

I saw a sign that says humans aren't illegal.

I wish more parents taught this to their children.

College hasn't taught enough people that humans aren't illegal.

>>>College hasn't taught enough people that humans aren't illegal.

You do know that most Americans haven't been to college, right? As a whole, it's only about 33% that have college degrees. It's only something like 24% of people over 60.

Are you sure that it's the minority, the college educated, that view humans as illegal?
