Yankees look good but them Astros with that fucker Verlander (he got a lotta nerve marrying my girlfriend) look f'n unstoppable. NL got some good games goin on. I like the Gnats. What say you ?
I'm a Cubs fan and seem to recall Andre Dawson getting a couple intentional walks with the bases loaded back when he was a bad, hard-hittin' motherfucker.
If I was a Nationals fan I would've been shitting myself in the bottom of the 9th. Glad it worked for Martinez. He said he didn't want to face Muncy but that takes some giant balls.
Ive seen it before, but doubt it was a playoff game...i actually liked the move as Muncy just kills righties....i heard Arizona mngr on radio the other day, and when asked "how does one beat the Dodgers and that lineup?" He said, "only one way to even have a shot, throw a lefty at them, then another, and another."
Nats have Corbin, Doolittle, and idk who else, but, they sure arent "loaded" w lefties in their pen...no way they beat the Dodgers unless the just outslug them ...but, Braves (newcombe, fried, others in pen) would have a shot, and a lil less so, so would the Cards ( andrew miller, webb, others) etc
Astros will sweep the Ray's tomorrow. It's only best of 5 right now. We have 3 aces and Greinke will take care business tomorrow. I was hoping the As would win the wildcard so I could go see my Astros in playoffs again. I haven't been to a playoff game since the Astros played the Braves last when they were still in the National league.
Yeah the Red Sox suck because they weren't able to do what no team has been able to do since 1998. And those three world series were bought and paid for by the Yankees. No coincidence that the luxury tax went into effect in 1997.
I drove by the Tampa Rays stadium this morning and I got some pics of the beautiful park and I even saw two Rays fans out in the wild! They’re practically extinct so I was pretty excited.
I’m checking tix on stubhub and if they get to “$0” I might bite
>>>>Yeah the Red Sox suck because they weren't able to do what no team has been able to do since 1998. And those three world series were bought and paid for by the Yankees. No coincidence that the luxury tax went into effect in 1997.
i don’t really understand what this post means but I think it’s implying that the teams with the highest payrolls in baseball “buy” the World Series, which is an argument that in 2019 shows that the person has no idea what they’re talking about.
No it was a great year for the Red Sox. They normally come in last after they win the series. Now next year, after they sell off Betts and keep paying Price, Sale and Eovaldi, that's going to be a horrible year.
Hey elvis how old are you ? And do you consider championships acquired in your lifetime old news ?
Point being I saw great yankee teams bring home the glory as a kid, a teen, and as an adult. Whereas sox fans had to endure year after year patheticness, finally making it to the promised land after most of their fan base had either died off or were so old, they can't even remember they won a thing. Just wondering where you fit in there.
>> Point being I saw great yankee teams bring home the glory as a kid, a teen, and as an adult. and that somehow makes you better than red sox fans?
>> Point being I saw great yankee teams bring home the glory as a kid, a teen, and as an adult. the yankee fans I know don’t have the same opinion. they tend to celebrate their many accomplishments and the Red Sox (and Mets) are more like their unsuccessful little brothers.
But yeah, if you want to support the team who had won the most and you’re still angry then well, why watch? Why not celebrate that your team is the best?
Yes, most sox fans I know have zeeero tolerance for abuse. Just another reason why yankee fans rule. Say what you want to us, it just rolls off the back. Fuck with sox fans and they tend to turn into whiney little bitches in need of a crying towel. Now lighten up Francis
Sorry if I'm too old school for ya kids, but IM always right O, the day yankees and sox fans stop fucking on one another will be a dark day I hope I never live to see. You rather see us holding hands singing kumbaya ? Riiiight
You gonna fuck on me ? (Doing my best Leslie Chow). God I hope so
Good job slack, way ta go - now who's your team again C'mon now don't be scared
That warning track relay throw to nail Altuve at the plate was un fuckin real. 2nd greatest defensive play I've ever seen, after Jeters back hand flip toss against the A's
Dwight Evans catch off Joe Morgan in 75 world series....and then turning it into a double play, is on my list of "best ever" defensive plays in playoffs, series etc...
Then , ya got Benentendi s catch off Bregman w bases loaded last year, his catch against wall, and mookies going over the wall, all in that same series as well...but, benentendi s to END the game....was nothing short of amazing.
Goodbye Dodgers. Roberts will be questioned for not bringing Jansen in earlier. Reminds me of when Buck Showalter left Zach Britton on the bench a few years back when Encarnacion hit the walk-off for Toronto against Baltimore.
Maybe the failures of Kershaw and Max Scherzer in high profile relief situations will have managers rethink using their thoroughbreds in these roles. Ian Snell got it done the other night for the Rays in their "bullpen game", and Patrick Corbin was solid last night though, so probably not.
The Dodgers bats never heated up in this series, and the Nats outpitched them. With the monkey off their back of winning a post-season series, the Nats are a dangerous team with a couple of stud aces to go head to head with the best of what's left in Strasbourg and Scherzer. Have to admit I enjoy the whole "Strasmas" thing. I lived in DC in the years when there was no team and became an Orioles lifer, so it's a little weird for me following the Nats now. Easy enough to root for them with the Orioles rebuild in full-swing, but I'm not jumping on their bandwagon. For now, I'm hoping the Rays can upend the Astros tonight. After that, I'm rooting for anyone vs. the Yankees.
Thanks to Gerrit Cole, who should get the AL Cy Young, the Astros and their stable of a aces move on to face the Yankees. I'll take Greinke, Verlander and Cole over Severino, Paxton and Tanaka. This is the year of the home run, though, and the Bronx Bombers have a lot of big bats. Should be a great series.
The National League gets going tonight in St. Louis. Couple of teams playing with a lot of confidence right now. National League rules, so no DH. I'd like to see Strasbourg hit a home run.
It's also the era where every heaver is just trying to throw it 100mph and the art of pitching has faded, but IMO great pitching will still usually beat great hitting, it pretty much always comes down to that (having both is the best though).
It continues to amaze me how the value of a great bullpen, in the regular season but especially in the post-season, continues to be overlooked. I don't know too much about any of the four remaining teams, but whichever one has the deepest pitching staff from top to bottom with an assassin closer is the one I'd bet on.
And I'm just about anything but a Dodgers fan and Kershaw has had his way with my team his entire career, but as much as it pains me to say, that guy is a class act and it's kind of a bummer to see him take the fall.
And of course a certain segment of Dodgers fans were burning and running over his jersey with their cars after the game. That's some bull right there.
And I don't mean that as a knock on all Dodgers fans, it's a knock on that certain type of fan found in any sport, like those in Indy who booed Andrew Luck the night he announced his retirement.
You know, the type of fan that fucking sucks at being a fan.
I guess I'll be mildly rooting for the Nats against the Cardinals, just because in situations where I don't really care I always tend to root for the fans more than the millionaire players, and the Nationals & Senators before them have never won anything and the Cards are always winning. Plus I have sympathy for the Nationals fans who stayed to the end of the 18-inning playoff game against the Giants in 2014 when the Nats blew the game in the 9th and gave up the HR in the 18th to lose. That had to really suck.
In the AL, I like the Astros, and if the Yankees still played in Yankee Stadium I'd have no problem with them either because I love tradition, but in this case I'll be pulling for the 'stros.
Ultimately I just hope we get three really good, interesting series and that the best team wins.
Why TF Boone managed his pitchers like last night was game 7 is beyond me. Odds are never good beating Verlander, especially at home. Why use up every arm in the pen ? Why remove Green when he was getting outs ? WTF'n F !!
Have you been paying attention to the Yankees over the last few years? That’s their MO.
Did you notice they pulled their Japanese starting pitcher the other night after six when he was throwing a two-hitter and was about 70 pitches in? Par for the course for Boone and these NYY.
Land the game went into the 11th, so I guess Boone’s move worked, as Green pitched middle innings.
Because every game IS game "7" , when you manage playoff baseball...^^^ he had a day off following, and if they (the yankees) managed to steal the game, they wouldve been up 2-0 , and heading home for 3. Boone also knew in that first game at home, theyd be facing the hottest pitcher in baseball...
You manage to win....every game. There is no "saving the bullpen" for tmrw in the playoffs.
Yeah if they had ever given a hint of ability to hit Verlander, which they never have. I would have let Paxton pitch a bit longer. Totally disagree about every playoff game is game 7. There's only 1 game 7, and thats after the first 6 are done, only then does it require desperate measures.Only one off day after an entire season is not a long time. Rested arms should be a priority for any manager in Oct.
Tonites game 3 for cards is a game 7....and down 7-1, every game here out will be a game 7 for them as well. Point being...a day off is plenty of rest for 99.9% of these relievers who come in to pitch to 3 batters etc...i wasnt referring to the starters arms at all ^, just more about how to manage a bullpen in playoffs...in my mind..they are all game 7 s, for that part of staff etc
I see what you mean. Game 3 + tonights game 4 are totally game 7's for the Cards. Tomorrow's Astro Yankee game 4 will be a bullpen smorgasbord, started by whoever's feeling good followed by whoever the hell can make it to the mound.
I love that for as long as I live whenever a team goes down 3 - 0 in the playoffs Yankee fans will have to sit through the inevitable retelling of the steal and all that followed.
This whole series the Yanks are looking exactly like a team going without their ace, and fielding a team whose timing looks like half of em just got off the DL. Totally unprepared to hit against the cream of the AL pitching crop. Should have stuck with the guys who pulled the load when guys like Hicks and DiDi were out, not that it would have made much of a difference. Even with all their horses, beating this fantastic Houston team would have been a tough row ta hoe. This game was over after only scoring one in the 1st. Yeah its all ovah but the Astro champagne spray. Nats Stros will be a great series.
>>>>Havent heard from Reardon since his Rays will beat Astros and Yanks will win whole thing rant-prediction....

Bwahahahaha !!!!
Everything is proceeding exactly as i have foreseen IT !!!
I'm afraid that Alla y'all hating on & sleepin' on my Yankmees.... spoke WAY TOO SOON!! LOL !! Bwahahahaha!!!
Prematurely Predicting their demise was a BAD BAD MISTAKE you'll ALL live to DEEPLY REGRET !! Starting TONIGHT!!
You should've known you had EGG on your face & been preparing to eat some serious SERIOUS freakin' CROW after my bombers jumped on Verlander last night and never looked back!!
Cause NOTHIN' & i DO mean NOTHIN'.. is stoppin' this New YORK Train now Baby!!!! Woooo HOOOOOOOO!!! Yeah Baby YEAH !!!!!
Greene will give us 5+ SOLID innings tonight
& My Bronx Bombin' Yankmees will DESTROY Peacock & the weak-ass Astros in game 6
before CRUSHING an exhausted gerrit cole in game 7
like a buncha SAVAGES in the batter's box & take the series TRIUMPHANTLY !!!
***Yankmees and Nats will most certainly duke it out for the chip...
with the Yankmees being a bit much for the Nats Magic & taking the title home to the Bronx in 5 !!!
WooooHoooooo.... Yeah baby YeaH!!!!!
You Heard it here first folks!!! Mark it down!!! Book IT!!!!!!
Congratulations to the Astros Nats fans, if there are any here. If so speak up, we only seem to hear from yankee hater asswipes, whose teams once again were home playing golf, their jealousy over 27 reeking like week old road kill. Not sure Houston would have had such an easy go of things had NY used some of the players that actually got em there ( Frazier, Romine, Voit, Tauchman, Ford, Wade ), instead of those high salary underachievers like Stanton - what he was doing on the roster is a mystery to me. I believe Billy Martin would have used the ones who showed there mettle during the season, not the big buck primadonna's who were not up for the fight. Congrats to the victors. Would love to see the Nationals bring it home.
Liam, I mean 2dank, please reconsider silence, you truly are a know nothing curse.
Come on, Raz, I'm no Yankee hater. Although, my buddy's line about the elusive 28th world championship did make me chuckle. I'm in Jersey, the only folks here that are happy about the Yankees are the Mutts' fans
Ras, calm down, bud. Just razzin' the Yankee fans. Sorry to get ya worked up.
If you perceive jealousy, maybe you could take it as a compliment that your team has had so much success that they become a target. Think New England Patriots.
Then again, some Yankee fans carry an arrogance that is fun to skutch, as if the rest of the league is so inferior the Yanks are expected to win the championship every year, and when they don't, the fans lose their shit and everyone has an opinion why. Kinda like the Patriots fans. I remember their arrogance at Super Bowl 42 and I happily joined Giant's fans in the chorus of "Eighteen and 0ne!"
Me? I really don't give a rat's ass. All these guys make too much f'in money for me to care, to play a freakin' GAME, and it's priced out a lot of the fans.
But when I was young and living in NY, I ate, drank, and slept Yankees. My Mickey Mantle Christmas ornament is still the first thing on my tree every year.
This is going to be a great World Series. The pitching match-ups are ridiculous, with the Nationals having a slight edge with 4 quality starters to the Astros 3. The Astros have the experience, the Nationals have the momentum and confidence after toppling the Dodgers and flushing the Cardinals.
The Astros might pitch Garrit Cole and his 19 game win streak in Games 1, 4 & 7. Scherzer seems to be finding his form, while Verlander has looked shaky.
As for the Yankees, they didn't have enough pitching. Enjoyed seeing Chapman being the goat. Britton should have been their closer. No sympathy for the Evil Empire. I'm sure they'll buy another Death Star or two in the offseason.
As someone who used to make a living selling ads my heart goes out a little to individual sales people who lost the big ass LA vs. NY pay day, and are stuck with selling Houston (a town that doesn’t care about baseball) and DC (A town filled with outsiders) instead.
That said on a personal note I’m glad I won’t be throwing up in my mouth during this world series. Go Nats or Astros I really don’t care and would be happy with both teams winning.
BTW it isn’t the curse of Big Papi it is the curse of A Rod. The Yankees have never been the same since they thankfully stole him from the Red Sox.
Ya, maybe it is curse of A-Rod...but, not so much for stealing him (because that was caused by players association blocking him from rearranging his contract and taking less money to play for Sox), but, the Evil Empire also hasnt won since A-Roid tried to knock ball out of Bronson Arroyo's glove. The biggest bush league play ever.
<< tried to knock ball out of Bronson Arroyo's glove >>
Possibly, but I pinpoint the moment to be, when he got plunked and instead of taking his base he decided to get bad and was forced by varitek to eat some catchers mitt.
Have a blind friend from Atlanta who, in the fall of 04 was up in New York getting fitted with a seein' eye dog. To make a long story longer, he had an off day in his training and talked me into taking him out for lunch, anywhere away from the facility. The day just happened to be 2 days after the Series ended. I get down there to pick him up and I notice it's a relatively short distance to the graveyard where Babe Ruth is buried. So I get there and its him and his also blind roommate who wanted to go along, not yet knowing where we were off to. Of course, the more always merrier. I had to sign these forms saying I'd get em back in one piece and all. So off we go, I tell em what are destination was and all were excited. Me a yankee fan, my buddy a Braves fan and the roomy, an Oriole fan. On the way we hit up a bar for lunch and grabbed a couple six packs for the ride, I had the bones all pre rolled. We spicoli stumbled out of the car and entered the graveyard not having any idea where Ruth laid, and after about 10 mins of, which way do we go, a maintenance man saw we were lost and directed us which way to go. He had a golf cart and asked if we needed a ride, but the fellas said no, and I was good with that. Now let me tell you folks, you may have seen some funny shit in your day, but nothing can quite compare to me, high as a bird, trying to manage 2 high as a kite blind mice with canes going 7 different directions tapping their canes off left side curb, right side curb, headstones left and right. It was a whole new degree of comedy I hadn't experienced before, absolutely wonderful. Finally after a 10 minute walk which took us 30, we arrived at the Bambino's resting spot. By this time the sky clouded up and a fine mist was falling with a light fog everywhere. It was magical. All kinds of cool shit was placed on his stone - flowers, yankee hats, red sox hats, framed pictures in both uniforms, bats, gloves, hand written notes. The special feeling that day was about as good as it gets for a baseball fan. One of the best days ever. Can't locate my pics of that day, but here's one of the stone.
Great story, Raz....reminds me of when i went to Sox Spring Training. I was wrkng w New Britian Red Sox Radio Team, which included , at the time, one of only two blind sports announcers in the world, one amazing man- Don Wardlow.
Now, the trip was great, and full of baseball memories so priceless., but i gotta tell ya, traveling w a seeing eye dog is pretty damn cool. You get a lot of perks, and treated like a king everywhere. And i mean everywhere. After a cpl games , we had an off night, and somehow it came out that Don had never been to a strip club. I mean why would he??
Well, lets just say...if ya ever wanna have a night....go get yourself some cheap sunglasses and a german shephard...ya, they took a liking to Don, and sure showed him some southern hospitality.
The next day at the ballpark, we heard one of the "dance" tunes played the night before, playing again now between innings. From the next booth (the Boston Radio Team) we hear a very familiar voice say , " i cant get this damn song outta my head."
The Nationals put a beat-down on the Astros once they knocked Verlander out. They're on a roll. Strasbourg is dealing and set for Game 6, if necessary.
The fate of the Astros season lies with Zach Greinke, who has been underwhelming this post-season, vs. Anibel Sanchez, who almost no-hit the Cards in his last start.
Too bad for the likeable George Springer that he is looking like the goat for not running out what would be a double instead of a triple, perhaps costing Houston the tie run at the end of Game 1.
Nats hot arms shut down stros games 1 and 2, so Washington decided they didn't have to show up for games 3 and 4. Shitty fielding, runners left all over the bases, totally flat horrible baseball. It's not that houston looked so good, they just took advantage of the nats patheticness and tied it up. Not a great series, not by a longshot.
Insane call against the Never-Trumpers, huge controversy and rightly so, in the age of 2019 technology it's inexcusable. Kudos to the Never-Trump fan base, although I'm feeling pretty strong about a game 7 Houston Astros win, I would advise everyone within the sound of my voice to bet against Chuck Todd's favorite team [free money].
Ok...I understand the technical argument...the base runner steps foot in the grass to the left, it's insane, this play is certainly not what the rule was written for, a flaw in the rule book in need of a correction, poetic justice saved the day. Houston wins game 7 big! I'm not saying bet your life savings on it, but don't say I never told you.
Forget all the talk about the 2 starters, tonites hero will be Patrick Corbin for the Expos! Ill say both starters gone by time its decided late...old man Ryan zimmerman gets his second hit of series, bookending games 1 and 7 w his 2nd home run, as Nats win late...
I did predict astros in 7..(before series, and after they were down 2-0,) and i still feel that way....just rooting for the Nats, as im not an Astro fan at all, and also usually root for Natl Lge Team if Sox arent in it, just because its a better lge etc....
I can't believe the trump loving snowflakes infiltrated the MLB thread. Just terrible stinky trolling.
Scherzer was never hurt, it was a plan to have him start game seven. No way were we beating Cole twice in a row so they pulled Scherzer and Strasburg came through big time.
I'm just happy we made it to game seven. With the Caps winning the cup and the Mystics winning i feel DC may be up again here, Caps, Mystics and Nats!!!!!!!!
^^ haha, Fog, Trea Turner stole second base after a leadoff single in game 1, before the first out was made in this series....that stolen base was the deliverer of free tacos.....;)
It was the perfect playoff series in my book. The home fans never got a chance to go home happy in any game and the fans of the team favored to win it all got to watch their team blow it in spectacular fashion.
Just tremendous.
The one thing that could put the cherry on the top is if the weather is absolutely horrible during the victory parade.
What a great series! Home team lost all 7 games. Never happened before in any major sport. I had picked Houston to win it all when the playoffs began, but I was rooting for the Nats at every stage of the playoffs after the first game (I wanted the Brewers).
Great job Nationals. Must win 6 n 7 on the road against them never Yankees fucks Verlander n Greinke, just fan fucking tastic ! This was the icing on the cake after the Nats owner telling chump to take a flying fucking leap during game 5. Go fuck yerselves trumpers, today America is Washington proud !@
No politics in a sports thread unless the teams make an issue of it, and they did, brilliantly with a bold act of patriotism.
Best series where I didn't care who won. My heart does go out to the Astros fans who spent thousands of dollars going to the show four times and never got to see a win. That is some pre 2000 Red Sox fan level disappointment
Congrats Nats welcome to club. Great to see DC going wild in the streets partying. Bill Simmons "Ewing Theory" at work here Bryce Harper leaves they win World Series.
I always end up rooting for the fans, and in every shot of the fans in Washington I saw guys in my age range, 50 - 65, wearing old Senators hats. I even saw a couple of older guys wearing Expos hats, and I relate to all those guys, who have rooted for a hapless team their whole life, believing they'll never see their team win.
It's an unbelievable feeling when you actually see your boys win it all, so I'm happy for the Nats fans.

Point being I saw great yankee teams bring home the glory as a kid, a teen, and as an adult. Whereas sox fans had to endure year after year patheticness, finally making it to the promised land after most of their fan base had either died off or were so old, they can't even remember they won a thing. Just wondering where you fit in there.

the yankee fans I know don’t have the same opinion. they tend to celebrate their many accomplishments and the Red Sox (and Mets) are more like their unsuccessful little brothers.
But yeah, if you want to support the team who had won the most and you’re still angry then well, why watch? Why not celebrate that your team is the best?

Maybe the failures of Kershaw

>>>This is the year of the home run, though<<<

And of course a certain

There's only 1 game 7, and thats after the first 6 are done, only then does it require desperate measures.Only one off day after an entire season is not a long time. Rested arms should be a priority for any manager in Oct.

Have a blind friend from
Have a blind friend from Atlanta who, in the fall of 04 was up in New York getting fitted with a seein' eye dog.

Great story, Raz....reminds
Good times....
