I'm thinking about going. Will let you know after the holiday weekend.
Marriott - Denver West is "Position A" for lodging. There really isn't anything walkable.
Plan on getting there early to enjoy the lot (go for top lot, north side). G in early and get a spot towards the middle anywhere below Row 40 is just fine. Once you establish your spot (tarp it) go check out the museum in the visitor center.
I rented a house in Denver and took the shuttle from Union Station earlier this month. The shuttle was fine but cost $40 + $15 to park at Union Station.
I can’t vouch for it but saw an ad for this hotel, only about 3 miles to Red Rocks and they have their own shuttle for $25.
I did the DSO Red Rocks show last year but due to work conflicts, I can’t this year. Last year I flew into Denver, took the tram to Union Station, then walked and stayed at Hostel Fish, then grabbed the $40 shuttle from Union station offered by CID, which was to and from the show. Was a great time!
I've never been there. Other than being able to drink without worry what's the advantage of taking expensive shuttles? Isn't there parking on-site? Is it more expensive than $40?
I took the shuttle even though I had a rental car because I didn’t want to risk having to hike up the mountain! The parking area is a puzzle of unmarked driveways, and dirt and paved lots at various elevations. People familiar with the amphitheater park on some of the narrow mountain roads and walk down after the show to try to beat the traffic jams. Not being familiar with the area, I elected to leave the navigation to the shuttle drivers.
I believe shuttle bus parking is below the Trading Post at the top of the lower south lot. You still have to hike uphill to the entrance and up the ramp or the stairs to the gate and then up to your seat.
Making Union Station your base is a good plan if you want to take advantage of Denver. Easy in/out from airport (train). TONS of good food, beer, weed in that area. A shuttle to/from Red Rocks makes it even better.
what's the advantage of taking expensive shuttles? Isn't there parking on-site? >>>
Because i flew in, I didn't want to rent a car for the weekend, and I wanted to spend time downtown. I also didn't want to drive after the show. For me the shuttle worked perfectly as a solo traveler. Upon return to Denver, I merely walked the block from Union station to my room, stopping at a bar along the way for a late night snack and night cap.
Also: for that trip, my airline miles covered the round trip, minus $11 dollars in fees. I also had room credits from Hotel.com built up, and used it to pay for my room. The tram was $9. So, the $40 dollars for the shuttle was worth it for me.
3 day trek completed, arrived early afternoon, son arrives by Greyhound this eve, dinner then the Eagles game in the morning before he drives back to Steamboat.

Ah, so the shuttle drops off
Ah, so the shuttle drops off & picks up at the gates? That makes sense.
I'm not a big fan of hiking before & after a show, especially at altitude.
I'm a wimpy sea level type.

I ended up going last minute. Fun night. Jack was on his game. Pretty sure I saw him doing some Pete Townsend bounces at one point.
