I like all those mid-70s records produced by Andrew Gold and Kenny Edwards - they usually played on them, too Believe they were on the Ronstadt mentioned above. I like a lot of that other early tp mid 70s stuff - first Dan Fogleburg, Slippin' Away by Chris Hillman, Wendy Waldman, the Fleetwood Mac of that time period - all those clean but multi-textured albums of that era.
A novelty rock band from Ohio best known for their hit "Snoopy vs. The Red Baron", the Royal Guardsmen released this little nugget on the flip side of their 1967 single "The Airplane Song". After dismissing them as a gimmick band for years, my mind was blown a couple of weeks ago when I heard this:
Ha. I might have to work up Smoke Of A Distant Fire for the next Saturday Night Jelly ("What we do isn't solid enough to be called "jam" -- Mick Heath).
Need those palate cleansers to offset the Simple Twist Of Fates and Everybody Knowses and such.

Supposedly written for/about Sophia Loren. You may remember it as the mush used over the end credits in Wes Anderson's "Darjeeling Limited".
