SUMMER 1990

that entire 8 show west coast run was wonderful.

Had to truck up to Buffalo.  No metro NY/NJ stop that year.

Crappy drive.  Great show.

Ultra Matrix -- now that's some just exactly perfect sound.

I sure missed Healy. I have no idea what happened with him, all I do know is the bands sound went downhill hard n fast when he left. It turned thin and dry. Dan had that shit sounding thick and juicy.

Please sir I want some more -  Foxboro thanks

East Coast '90 Summer was/is bandied around as kinda' average. Not sure why, other than in comparison to the stratospheric playing of the previous spring and fall. There are some excellent shows.

My only interaction with Healy was at that Foxboro show. He wasn't too happy when he noticed my buddy throwing up over by the soundboard. He started screaming at us to get the fuck away from the equipment, he's gonna get us kicked out, kick our ass etc....  It wasn't as though the puke was going anywhere near the soundboard -- that's obviously gated off -- he was just being a dickhead.  As far as his dismissal from the band ive always heard this version: Healy thought he was a better player than Bobby, was a dope addict and the combo got him the boot after being warned not to fuck with Weirs sound.

But you are 1000% right, the sound was never great once he left. Cutler was good with JGB but never quite figured out how to make the GD come alive.

The Last Great Tour -- Summer 90

It was the whole package. The band melting faces, minimal security, all day lot schnaniginz with every sort of vending you could imagine. Unlimited supply's of the coolest homemade crafts, foods, tshirts, oh and drugs. The people seemed friendlier, the scene more in tune to one another, even with all the touch of grey jump on boards. When Weirs voice went all squirrely was one of my favorite things in a show. It was always timed just right. Other One

It was all different after summer 90.

Man were we spoiled.

my only complete tour.

well i guess i did fall as well but...as stated, it was different after brent.

glad i went.

It was a great tour but there was a noticeable lack of focus compared to the spring, Brent looked like death and I think his energy and situation effected the entire band.  Just not quite as cohesive as the fall '89 and spring '90 had been.

That being said, that RFK Dark Star was the absolute shit.  And made standing through that deluge absolutely worth it.

Affected

Sorry

^^^Best Star since Winterland October '74^^^

That's debatable, the Miami '89 DS is a monster.

But I love that it's both verses with no sandwich.  I was sure they were drifting into drums before they worked back into the theme and pulled out that second verse.  And then there's an additional jam before the drums.  24 minutes of pure 1990 bliss.

>fall '89 and spring '90

= Garcia's last great run. It started with JGB early fall 89.

There was a shining bright of brilliance and not just the flickers that followed.

Hard to believe it's been 29 years.  That RFK show is burned into my DNA.

<<  it started with JGB early fall 89  >>

Gotta disagree here bro.

While the Dead's demise after Brents passing was obvious to all,

I believe some of the sweetest Jerry ever played was on the JGB's 91 + 93 tours.

Jerome always seemed to keep his own band's playing strong, loosely tight - just right

Other One > Morning Dew from Deer Creek 7/18/90 was a treat!

Did a disjointed tour that year:

7/6 Louisville

7/8 Pittsburgh

7/16 Buffalo

7/18 - 7/19 Deer Creek

(7/20 Sir Paul in Cleveland)

7/21 - 22 - 23 Tinley Park

RIP Brent broken heart

Speaking of disjointed, I just remembered the skeleton figure hung at Deer Creek behind the drummers lost a leg during drums as Mickey had the "laugh" box going. It was kind of surreal at that moment! Ha!

Tune in nightly for more patriot vs scud action!! Film at 11...

Foxboro set 2 is ripper, especially the Eyes.

I saw all of that summer in the Midwest. Had sixth row seat right in front of Brent at that final show. It all changed after that tour.

RIP Brent broken heart
