Went to both nights, thought Monday was superior in terms of setlist and jamming. Was expecting a longer show after Wamu 2015, but the sound was excellent and there were definitely some peak moments.
My first trip to the Paramount. Gorgeous old theater. You can feel the history oozing from the walls & ceiling.
We were right up front last night for Neil. It was shorter than we had hoped for because of the local curfew but still an incredible set with some blazing rock and roll classics from the band. There are a some very good new songs. I really thought a couple of them, She Showed Me Love and Right By Her Side, were instant classic electric Neil. Outstanding time was had by everyone at this well run event. The venue and comfort level at all stages was tops. The best modern day festival to look forward to in Northern California.
>>>If electric Neil doesn't bring you out nothing will.
So true! Neil called his guitar (Old Black) "Black" during the tune-up for a song, admonishing it for still playing the previous one. "You're still playing the last one, Black!" I guess it makes plenty of sense he's on a first name basis with that thing. There is definitely something cool that happens when those two get together.
My guess is you'll be happy that he's getting the Horse back together for an album and tour--albeit w/out Poncho. Maybe they'll even play a show (not just a music festival) in the Bay Area? That would be something!
>>>Might you describe a bit of what made Eugene the one? I might as well know what I missed.
Hey Judit! Big hugs to ya.
I guess there are just some shows which Neil gets a bit more lathered up, throws a bit more of his whole self into, than others like any other musician. The Eugene show was an example of that. Not to say the Seattle shows weren't fun, it's just that he got drenched in his own self-tornado a bit more thoroughly in Eugene. You didn't miss anything biblical or anything, just Neil rocking the shit out of that place. Some musicians and their talents seem to age pretty well. He's a good example of that while others--not so much. I have no idea how much longer he's going to be able to do this, but it's pretty awesome to see and my guess is you'll have plenty more chances.

I'm taking this to heart. I don't think I've seen him since 1988 (Bridge show at Oakland Arena) - it's been way too long.
