After getting booted out of school for being away so long on fall tour, I was fortunately able to catch much of Spring '90. I've always considered it to be a divine intervention.
I still remember how fucking cold that lot was before the shows. I was happy to find a nice dive bar near the Knick that had mostly local alcoholics in it. The cheapest bar drinks I ever got near an arena before a show. The gentrification the arena was supposed to bring hadn’t kicked in yet.
The Atlanta shows were good but I distinctly remember that sinking feeling after seeing the setlists of what they had played in Hamilton, Albany and especially Nassau, and hearing it from one of my buddies who saw the whole tour. I had only made it to Landover and Hartford, and knew Atlanta was not going to come anywhere close to what came before it.
That Nassau run turned the tour from a great one to an extraordinary one.
Drove from Amherst. MA to the Albany shows. If my memory serves, the "lot" was more like a 5-10 square block area of downtown Albany that was cordoned off for Deadheads to hang out it. Was very cool.
Why not? Im not really sure what you are asking. .. I didn't say 4-2 was as good as it gets as a show...just part of that second set is truly over the top. other one death dont is the real deal but the whole shows good too.
Some real highlights pretty well documented in these two releases, "SPRING 1990: So Glad You Made It" and "Wake Up To Find Out"
Spring 1990 was the first and only time I made a complete (all 16 shows) Spring Tour by the Grateful Dead. I was in Hamilton, Ontario, and I spoke to a Road Crew guy (Henry?) who was wearing a laminate that had 3 song titles on it. One of them was Dark Star, which I had yet to ever see. I knew then they would play it on this tour and I decided I would not miss a show on this run. It payed off brilliantly when Branford Marsalis was the unexpected guest sit in at Nassau Coliseum on 3/29/90. I got my first Dark Star, and Candace oozed red colors through the room for it. It was magnificent!
"The combination of the tracks from the March 24 concert at the Knickerbocker Arena with those from the same date released on Dozin' at the Knick, Postcards of the Hanging and Without a Net represent that concert in its entirety."
So it appears the whole show has been released but you need to have Spring 90, Dozin, Without a Net, and Postcards to have all of it
This was a great run I caught Hartford Nassau and Albany We had quite a bit of liquid too We had a week in between shows Spring break from high school and someones parents were away just a great couple of weeks
...also good call on the 3-30-90 Without a Net date you guys. It still doesn't answer the question of whether or not the first set from 3-24-90, specifically the LTGTR>HSF that opens the show, was ever officially released. I don't think it's ever been released unless some bonus footage im not aware of. Otherwise they have not released spring90 complete at least literally.
Therefore...I think they should just re-release 3-24-90 in its entirety.
